My cousin's neighbor used to have this game and I remember playing it in the early 90's. He was 3 or 4 years older than us, and he was the kid in the neighborhood who had everything. I remember he had painstakingly hand painted each individual figurine in the set, and he had actually done quite a good job for a kid. It brought that extra bit of greatness to this awesome game. Ah the memories...
I got this game in the year 1990 when I was eight years old. I'm from europe and so I have 4 Expansions, a lot new miniatures, spells and so on, everything in a perfect condition. I'm so proud to be one of a few to own this game with all expansions. This game is the godfather of all other miniature games. Loving it!!! Hero Quest ROCKS!
I got this game for my 13th Birthday, and loved it! I remember thinking I was missing something because the shop was no where to be found. Then I realized it was on the box the whole time, lol!
Still have my copy of this game. Won't ever give it up, had way too much fun with it as a kid, and still dig it out from time to time to play with some friends or my kids.
I bought this game in 1990 and I have three expansion packs. I Painted all the heros and the big bad guy and some of the monsters. Pretty cool game. I'm going to set it up again and play. I'm 50 years old now but I've been a gamer since I was a kid. Once a nerd always a nerd.
This game is awesome! My brother and I used to play it all the time when we were little. I always played the Elf, because he had magic AND decent attack-power. This video brought back a ton of memories. Thanks!
You sir are a legend, Hero Quest was a game that my friend and I used to play. Completely addicting, I think this game for getting me into the RPG era of gaming.
used to play this with my dad was i was younger!!!! lol awesome. i still have it now an watching that really made me wanna play it again. i dont think anyone would play play it with me now tho! lol
My first introduction to GW products and the basis for my Warhammer collection. This game is a classic and despite the years still highly enjoyable to play.
i LOVED hero quest.... i fn pwned at this game... was great to play with my friends... i had one of the expansion packs too god those skeletons were fragile though... i would always play as the elf... OH god,, so many memories!!
Say what you want about me, but myself and others (family/friends) have been playing this game for 15 years! We've advanced it overtime; painting the furniture, heroes & monsters. Adding newer upgrades to the game by ordering things offline to contribute to the game play. Building new cards, extending quests and rules along with characters. for example we have heroes such as a paladin, centaur, and ranger. Its just IMENSE!
This was my intro to book RPGs (GURPS and AD&D mainly)... we also got the Dragon Quest board game later on, but ended not playing much. Don't play them anymore, but it was great back then.
OMG He does have a RAD t-shirt! Amazing, I want one. Watched that movie relentlessly as a kid. It's the reason I thought I was going to grow up and become a pro BMX rider. (I can barely ride a bike to save my life LOL)
So awesome man, I have this game in my closet as well! Loved this game when I was a kid! I always wanted some of the expansions, but I could never find them anywhere!
I had this when I was a kid. I was always the barbarian because he was the strongest. I had a hard time playing this with my friends. They didn't like it as much as me.
I still have a copy of this game and it's still in really good order. I always took good care of the thing. If people were playing I would use sheets of paper other then the ones that came with the game. I think the game paper pad that I have is only missing 4 pages now.
I had this game plus the ice skelton (or sometimes like that, the blue one :) ) expansion.Loooove this game, Milton Bradley needs to do a re-release :)
Wow, I wish I would have kept this game. The only limitation was that the rooms were always in the same location. This sort of burned us out after a summer.
I used to lovr this game as a kid. I dont have my original one but i found a sealed one at a yard sale. The plastic is a little torn but ive been debating for 6 months if im gonna ooen it.
Played the heck out of this game as a kid. I played through it with my nephew and a few of his friends and They loved it but realizing now that it is just 'go here, kill that' game. After a few quests it gets really monotonous if you're over the age of 12. I got the D&D board games, Ravenloft, the Dragon one, and Drizzt one but those are even more so. Want to find something fun for him, might try Savage worlds with HQ and D&D miniatures with them, it is basically a miniature game anyway.
@NEStalgiaholic I'm in the midst of painting my hero quest set, you should see. The goblins and orcs are done, so are the heroes, zombies and mummies. Its looking good so far!
HeroQuest is a "gateway" game. It gets people into more advanced RPG style games like D&D. Seriously though I loved this game I still have 2 sets of the game and the game was played to death. One set is in great condition the other is really used. I wish someone would release a new HeroQuest with an update. Another great game is Descent it's very similar to HQ but much more advanced.
You can use the Vassal module to play this game online. Just search for Vassal engine on google and youll get to the page, then download the program and the module for this game
I use to have this when I was a kid. I had to get again because a lot of things became broken or missing. Thanks to Hasbro they had discontinue it. I wish they did not did not do that. .
About what you're saying at 7:46, they made two Hero Quest games for the Commodore Amiga. I only played the second one, Legacy of Sorasil, but that was pretty good :)
Hey john or any1 reading , I do not suppose you know what 1 x single block squared marker is? In this game. Havn't played it for so long have forgotten and gonna buy it again. Many thx
Oh man, love this game. I actually never played it as a kid, but some friends introduced me to it only a few years ago. Never tried the hardcore stuff like D&D. You can find all sorts of player made maps on the net for Hero Quest. Am I wrong in thinking that his is what became Warhammer?
i found this board game on the side of the road with some warhammer 40k sets (i only found some scouts and thier sergent) and it was wet and was missing pieces sadly and i had to go fast so i took the marines
I personally thought there was a 'lot' of Lord of the Rings in HeroQuest... loved the game though.. used to play it with my two older brothers and one of their friends occasionly.. the problem is/was... we were fairly young 6-13 and when you're that young ... care of the property wasnt high on our list apparently... so the Barbarians sword points broken off, the elfs swords broken and hes stuck on a cardboard tile because he was squashed, wizard similar... gargoyle has no head... list goes on..
Hey John. Now, I'm not sure if you've played the board game I'm about to recommend, but it's definitely in the same vein as Hero's Quest. Not the same, but this review reminded me of it. You should check out the World of Warcraft board game. I'm sure that even people who aren't fans of WoW would love that game. It takes a long time to play, but it's a ton of fun to play as well. Very, very deep gameplay for a board game. Rather expensive, though.
the only piece thats made the distance unschathed is the dwarf. nice and compact (this taking into account the evil pieces were multiple.. they had there fair share of hits too).. Also had 3 of the add on quests, rise of the witchlord? the ogre one.. and cavils keep i think it was called.. ah.. to look at your prestine copy..
Saw this at my FLGS today in still-wrapped-in-cellophane condition for $100! I've heard great things about it, but that's a bit out of my price range. ;)
@NEStalgiaholic I'm going to review it soon, as the premier of a new series I'm gonna do for reviews, to add some variety to my channel. I'll let you know when it's done if you'd like to watch it. =)
Someone borrowed this from me a long time ago and I never got it back. :/ Had 2 expansions aswell. Don't remember who borrowed it, so I'll never get it back.

That cover bought back a lot of memories, great artwork.
Still have my copy of this game. Won't ever give it up, had way too much fun with it as a kid, and still dig it out from time to time to play with some friends or my kids.
Loved this. I even painted some of the miniatures like Warhammer. Hero Quest was a great game to get people to open up to D&D.
This was my most favorite boardgame as a kid. I played this with my cousin for hours till the crack of dawn.
I bought this game in 1990 and I have three expansion packs. I Painted all the heros and the big bad guy and some of the monsters. Pretty cool game. I'm going to set it up again and play. I'm 50 years old now but I've been a gamer since I was a kid. Once a nerd always a nerd.
It's so expensive to find a complete set of this game these days
I paid a lot for a damaged board years ago. I'm actually trying to restore it as I found a video about it recently.
it is relatively cheap on ebay now, relatively.
My friends and I used to play this a lot. Great game. Haven't touched it in forever though. I know he still has it.

I still have the entire set, and expansions! This game was amazing
used to play this with my dad was i was younger!!!! lol awesome. i still have it now an watching that really made me wanna play it again. i dont think anyone would play play it with me now tho! lol
I loved this game as a kid! I still own it today, and I'm glad I did, this board game can go for over $100 on Ebay sometimes for a mint condition set!

Thanks for posting this. Brought back some great memories.
Hero Quest and Dragon Strike were my favorites when I was young.
My first introduction to GW products and the basis for my Warhammer collection.
This game is a classic and despite the years still highly enjoyable to play.

This was my intro to book RPGs (GURPS and AD&D mainly)... we also got the Dragon Quest board game later on, but ended not playing much.
Don't play them anymore, but it was great back then.
Had this game, was the best.
i wish there was people near me i would play this again
One of my favorite game of all time too. Still have all the expansions too. BTW Awesome shirt!
OMG He does have a RAD t-shirt! Amazing, I want one. Watched that movie relentlessly as a kid. It's the reason I thought I was going to grow up and become a pro BMX rider. (I can barely ride a bike to save my life LOL)
my father actually hand painted all of the objects and characters/creatures. they ended up looking really cool.
I miss this game.
this game started me painting models and i then moved onto other games workshop games and then i seemed to never have money :)
Good old days.
dude, really great video, even the lightning causes nostalgia. playing by lamp light at night
loved that game
I still have a copy of this game and it's still in really good order. I always took good care of the thing. If people were playing I would use sheets of paper other then the ones that came with the game. I think the game paper pad that I have is only missing 4 pages now.

omg this game was awesome!!!
It sucks that Hasbro bought MB and stopped this game. It was a lot of fun.
Wow, I wish I would have kept this game. The only limitation was that the rooms were always in the same location. This sort of burned us out after a summer.
oh man I LOVED this game. I still own 2 sets with tons of extras. Still trying to get my wife to play it with me hah.
I used to lovr this game as a kid. I dont have my original one but i found a sealed one at a yard sale. The plastic is a little torn but ive been debating for 6 months if im gonna ooen it.
i have the board as a decoration on my desk, with the furniture :D
this and battle masters used to be my games!
Looks like a lot of fun! I always wanted to try out games like these when I was younger, but I'm not sure if I had the patience!
i have this game and its awsome
Cover artist was Les Edwards. Look him up, he's still painting, better than ever actually.
man! your set is in damn good condition.
i bought a used set and the dice are all faded and whatnot.
still got my copy from 1989.
but i never found the expansions, still looking for them too.
Played the heck out of this game as a kid. I played through it with my nephew and a few of his friends and They loved it but realizing now that it is just 'go here, kill that' game. I bought mine in Australia and the contents vary to the ones shown in this vid.

@NEStalgiaholic I'm in the midst of painting my hero quest set, you should see. The goblins and orcs are done, so are the heroes, zombies and mummies. Its looking good so far!

About what you're saying at 7:46, they made two Hero Quest games for the Commodore Amiga. I only played the second one, Legacy of Sorasil, but that was pretty good :)
I got this.
@RyHoMagnifico Actually Heroquest was a Warhammer spin-off. The game of fantasy battle was already popoular.
@RKOrton666 I'll check it out. Thanks for the recommendation.
I've got the 1989 HeroQuest. I don't have the 2022 reboot.

You can find all sorts of player made maps on the net for Hero Quest.
Am I wrong in thinking that his is what became Warhammer?
This game is pretty good, if you want the same gameplay style search for "Descent"
@guitarpop Would the minis form this game be legal in a Warhammer Tourney or painting competition? XD
i played this game quite a bit when i was a kid. where would you find one of those home brew ports? i want one.
i found this board game on the side of the road with some warhammer 40k sets (i only found some scouts and thier sergent) and it was wet and was missing pieces sadly and i had to go fast so i took the marines
@NEStalgiaholic how did you keep it in such good condition over the years? wow.
