I hope this video gets its deserved impressions and recognitions, because these details are priceless in owning and safely operating your weapons. Travis is breaking down so much in just a short video that its impossible to watch it once and say 'I came away with everything he was attempting to teach.' Many think operating a weapon system (either rifle and/or handgun) is about cleaning, training, and bullet provisioning. But just as important as those things are, it's also about problem solving with your weapon system and maximizing your efficiency in its use. Great video Travis, and thank you for your service and all that you're doing to educate the gun community.
Thanks for what you some of us old timers were never trained like this!! I can carry this to my friends and help them get better!! Again Thanks for your service and thank you for your constant teaching!!
28 years of martial arts and 14 yrs of firearms, I drill all my friends and soldiers the same way, problem is people learn at a different pace, and have a lot of patience, a lot will disagree but when you show them why and the reason behind it, it all falls into place.
I think this is the longest video Travis has ever made! You usually keep them to the point & short, leaving us always wanting more. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. With malfunctions, I'd suggest doing them with a friend when possible, who can set the malfunction up for you. Then you'll have no idea what kind of malfunction your going to have.
Ive seen guys in my community (Army) say a lot of shit about Haley courses and the implementation of science, metronome timing and nuero-science being a sales tactic...and while i scour every medium and attend courses and watch how various people do various thing..... i always come back to Travis giving me Aha moments and i gotta fucking break out my note book and take notes.... even for a simple 1R1 that I have been doing for years now....just AHA! brilliant I dunno what it is besides fucking brilliant. Thanks.
I use snap caps alot for failure to fire/failure to feed drills. I'll even have a friend load a couple into mags without telling me which one they're in. Or load them myself the night before a range trip. That leaves enough time to forget where they are.
I'm loving the regular uploads again. I really grew to respect Haley Strategic back 4-5 years ago here on youtube and now hopefully will be going to a class in the next 18 months! Keep it up guys you rock!
Travis is actually programmed to slightly miss every few hundred rounds, so we don’t catch on to the fact he’s a machine, and so he can include a training prompt.
Lol, KWA is ass. Tokyo marui is by far the best airsoft brand. I kick myself for not getting one for years and instead having KWA, Sword etc. Kwa can't make gas guns that perform to save their lives.
Well there are actually. One for his real son and a few for the one off the street that showed up at his doorstep. That's what you get when you feed the animals just once....
I’m always interested in what Travis carbine is and it’s setup. Most guntubers are sponsored by companies so they are pretty biased when it comes to their setup. But you see Travis rocking a T2 today and the next day it’s a holosun
Great content! I'm aSingle point sling user... Interesting u running one when so many tacticool utubers don't run them or bash them. What's your brand/model?
Its a "Haley Strategic D3 Sling with a Thorntail QD on the rifle", I cant tell if its the slick sling or not. I think Travis has made a video on them before, If I remember correctly it was because he likes using both 1 and 2 point slings but found to many down side just using each on there own. So he just made one that does both jobs well. hope that helps.
Travis is showing a double feed procedure a little different from what I've seen from him before. Here he's not confirming the upper receiver is clear with racking the slide a couple of times. He's just locking the bolt, pressing the mag release, and pulling the mag out and back in. Anyone hear or see where he talked about NOT cycling the bolt a few times before inserting the mag back in?
He saw the rounds fall from the mag well. Can’t cite a video for you, but I’ve seen him call it “big boy rules” before. He saw the rounds fall out so there was no need to run the CH
What if you could lock the Carrier to the rear without taking your firing hand off the pistol grip? At 8:21 you move your firing hand to the T-handle, and your support hand to the bolt-lock lever (paddle), in order to pull the carrier back, and also lock it back. I have an extended Button on my bolt-lock paddle which allows locking the carrier back with the THUMB OF MY FIRING HAND. I don't have to move my firing hand off of the pistol grip. I rack the carrier back with my support hand, the way we do in most other situations. This is NOT a battery assist lever. It is an addition to the bolt-lock paddle. Mine is the only rifle with this, because I invented it. When I showed this to my nephews (Marine and Ranger) they said "We have got to get this to every soldier and marine in the world right now." I should send you a photo ...
One question : You said it's unsafe to lower your AR chambered with safety on and transition to your pistol. (I agree) How is it safe to transition from your empty chambered AR to your pistol, fire and holster it back chambered then? Sorry for what might sound like a stupid question...I'm a novice. I just don't get it.
If your rifle is loaded, it might point to other people on your sides and to your back because of the transition, also, the safety can be rubbed to fire if it caughts on your gear. The pistol is way safer, since it goes on a holster, the rifle doesn't have a holster.
Nice video! But, I could notice you dont swing your firearm to the side to eject the empty mag? We all do that in the unit because we had a lot of cases where the mag stayed stucked in the gun when we did exercises like speed reloads with polymer mags (like magpull).(we have CQB scars in 5.56 and 5.7 backup guns). is there a reason you dont do that? ( other mag, other gun , personal experience...) pretty intrested in that.
I know you are asking Travis and not me , but if I remember correctly he said in one of his earlier videos that he doesn't do it on a range with other people in close proximity because noone likes a mag to the face . Or something along those lines
I would add that also, in a reload where the rifle is still shouldered, a static one as Travis call's it, the mag tends to drop freely, it's when you bring it to your armpit that it might catch, but you can eject the mag with momentum, not necessarily needing to do a mag flip, for demonstration on the technique, I suggest you watch the emergency reload video from the channel MilspecMojo.
I have a question for Mr. Haley or anyone willing to take the time to answer. The range I go to only allows me to engage 1 target at a minimum distance of 25 yards when using a rifle. I am really trying to get out and train my speed and accuracy which is why I would love to do these drills but I feel like I have to slow down so much since I can’t shoot at closer ranges. Is there any way to improve these things with my current situation or do I need to find a new place to shoot?
Be careful training in an indoor range for long periods as the lead poisoning will eventually affect you. Our range officer in the Patrol was mandated to stay off the indoor range as he started having problems and found out via his doctor that his lead levels were way too high.
noticed youre running your sling in 1 point but ive seen you run 2 points. ive been running an ms3 in 1 point on a magul asap for like 8 years or like ever since art of the tactical carbine, usually only 2 point it when im hiking but thinking about running 2 point cuz it seems easier for transition to handgun but sucks for shoulder transitions on barricades and stuff. which do you usually prefer or is there a best of both worlds solution that I don't know about?
His sling would be best of both worlds I think, you can quicky change from 2 to 1 points and vice versa, the only downside it's that when it's in two points, you have no quick adjust tab like a vickers sling. Also, getting hit in the balls it's not great hahaha.
If I remember right Travis you shot 99% in LEO school training. So you have dropped 6% over the years. Welcome to getting old man. Just messing with ya bro. Glade to see you are still shooting and doing well. Also you still doing that badass robot dance man?
Coriolis effect on pistol shooting ( at a range less than 500 meter)? C'Mon, but I guess you were in "Sniper Instructor Mode" at that moment. :) But a good video! You're the best!
When setting up the double feed drill with both the carbine and the pistol I am wondering if there is a reason you do not use spent cartridges? I usually do that with the handgun. I realize most of the double feeds on on the carbine are mag induced (I do set them up with two live rounds on the carbine) but once in a while do to dirty chambers, broken extractors/ extractor springs or whatever you can get a failure to extract. I am just curious as an instructor for a law enforcement agency and academy. Thank You. D. Spicer
