Absolutely. Unless one is a Johnny Hodges & certainly Ellington, one would not know the various soloists on the tunes and also the fact that Hodges would occasionally play with cats from Ellington's band, Basie' band and other groups as well. also these tracks are from various recordings. Therefore, Robert is spot-on with his comment!

Some tracks from an Ellington off-shoot band, Hodges as band leader (called an Ellington unit). Personnel: Hodges alto; Ray Nance or Cootie Williams Trumpet; Harry Carney Bar Sax; Lawrence Brown Tromb; Ellington piano; J Blanton bass; Sonny Greer drums - recorded 1940 & 41...

Clarinet seems to be Jimmy Hamilton, trombone Lawrence Brown, tenor Ben Webster, as to the others... no clue.

The other alternative solution would be to indicate the LP's from from which they are taken, so that an individual who is interested in knowing a particular soloist would then check out that record from which is drawn.

That Hodges doesn’t play in the opening track, a Jimmy Hamilton feature, is very original!

Is that really Hamilton? Methinks, a little bit too much vibrato for Hamilton's style. I have no idea, who it is. Tone is different from Bigard's or Procope's.

The last track also is a no-Hodges Lawrence Brown feature.
Prelude to a kiss is a piano solo and it’s not Duke
These two, like track one, are certainly excerpts from a ballad medley, most likely the same one.
I suggest that playlist compilers should at least listen to what they choose to use, so they can check that tracksunder the compilation title.

A lot of young cats have amazing technique and I know things have to move on but apart from wynton and Co how many communicate emotion like rabbit ,frog, hawk ,Duke, prez little jazz and there ilk .Yes of course trane , bird completely but tho I can appreciate a lot of what goes now I wonder if a hundred notes can can hit the listener like Ben's ballads or Johny"s blues! Billy bounce (yes I love bird).

You really need to tell something about the sidemen above. This is not at all one good musician playing alone...
