I just bought a 2008 Ford Escape X.L.T. with 4.W.D. I got it for around $5,300.00. It's a great starter car for college students like myself in 2017. I have to drive for 30 minutes to get to school every Monday, so this compact SUV is more than enough.
My brother drove a Ford Escape. I had the opportunity to test drive his car and it felt amazing. The Duratec Engine felt powerful and strong. Ride Control and Handling was as expected from Ford Motor Company.
i just bought a 2008 escape limited 2 weeks ago - love it! had a bit of a shock going from my v8 2002 explorer to the v6 escape, but the gas milage is already much better, so it's a fair trade off. look forward to having this small suv for a long time
Its great. Im averaging about 25 mpg and that is with warming it up every morning. Handles great in snow being a 4x2. I love everything about it really. I have the four cylinder, but still has plenty of power for every day city/highway commute.
I have this as my company vehicle, an 08 escape with the 4 cylinder engine, it has 148k miles as we speak and the vehicle is used 20 hours each day WITHOUT being turned off. Its idling most of the time and the car is still running strong. We've only had a few electrical problems which I blame to factory since the probs were since the beginning. And we've also replaced the radiator. We abuse this car so I don't mind those repairs but imagine if someone has this as a private vehicle, it will last
I own a 2012 escape, and love it. To correct two points in the video, it is 4WD not AWD, and it is a sunroof not a moonroof. I have absolutely no problems with the acceleration given from the I4.
I have a 2010 with the V6. No problems to report except the throttle body. No rust, and has over 100k miles. One problem in over 100,000 miles is more than acceptable to me. I have no real complaints about it. I haven't had to fix anything except the throttle body, and that was under warranty. The new throttle body has a better design, so it's less likely to go bad again.
I'm gonna miss this version of the Escape. This one I thought was great overall. It was roomy, comfortable, had lots of space for things, & got great gas mileage. Most importantly, it looks tough & badass. Now the next generation...I'm gonna hate that car soooo much
beatlespersun Yes, I love the face on this baby...has big shoulders too...my Blue Bandit is still going STRONG...36,794...Yes...only 1 major repair is a rear window regulator...Yesterday.... Yes...YESTERDAY.. THIS TRUCK IS A SAVAGE
This is an old review. The new Ford Escape 2011 is more than this model, it looks similar, but the new 2.5 4cyl engine with 171 HP and 171 lb-ft of torque is more than enough to move this car with decent performance. It has more features and it is more bang for the buck than before. I am really considering this car. I have nothing against the CRV or Tucson 2011 (both great crossovers for city and highway driving), but the Escape can do more and it is more capable off road than those 2 models.
This is the only review that reveals the Gen1 engine and transmission continues in this model year. The peppier VVT engine with more horsepower, torque and mpg's comes the following year along with the 6-speed auto transmission. It seems the different divisions of Ford didn't communicate well with each other. I have the 2008 Escape LTD in FWD instead of AWD and I really like it. It's boxy and functional.
My old man currently has an '08 Limited 4WD model. Very nice and well equipped car. The 4 speed and lack of power really hold it back though. Performance wise it's no better than my old '06 Torrent AWD, and that thing was a pushrod built in China. Sad
i put over 300 k on my escape before i started haveing problems. it was an 04. however i think ford really screwed up when they took the proper 4wd system away as an option and made them all Awd. they were a fantastic little off roading vehicle in the first generation,
Disappointing acceleration? Not on the V6, it has all the power you'll ever need. In fact you can watch the 0-60 videos on youtube and see for yourself.
Deciding on first car. 2009 Ford Escape or 2009 Dodge Journey 4cyl. Have 3 other sisters and also need room for hockey bags. Same price for both. Help please.
I wish this new escape had a selectable 4wd mode with low range. They had them on the old one and these new ones are all computer controlled now, and who knows how god that system is. If the new escape had a selectable 4wd with low range it would have been the ultimate small suv. If I could get a small offroader I would get a new Suzuki Grand Vitara because it has high and low 4wd that you can select.
I learned that even though having all wheel disc brakes is favored, disc brakes in the rear of most vehicles makes the parking brake more complicated than a drum brake. Also when braking almost 80% of the weight is transferred to the front of the vehicle and to the front discs. So maybe it doesn't effect braking to have drums in the rear on the base model Escape. Then again I'd prefer disc brakes all around.
@kbb (or any long time users of escape models) would you guys still recommend the 2011 xtl V6 version? I'm concerned more about reliability then any other aspects which I feel well pleased about... thanks and peace to you
We crashed our old car a few days ago, and got one of these as a rental car. I can't believe an XLT like we is $26,000 new. It is very cheaply built and is very hard to get used to. It handles like a piece of furniture. The only nice feature I like is the satellite radio. The "textured plastics" inside feel terribly cheap. It is also small, and I don't recommend it to any family with more than 2 people.
@454streetracer Well you would fit in the front seats well. I am 6,1 and it I have plenty of space without hitting my head. But if you don't like it thats fine I don't blame you. I didn't like it at first but it grew on me and I love it. For a road trip I suggest something more comfortable to rent like a lexus suv or something if you can afford it.
@moamin1989 Toyota is well know for their reliability, but just recently, Ford surpassed Toyota in reliability in tests. You won't go wrong with either vehicles. Both are great SUV/Crossovers.

@pikachuzzz123 mee too,,well i have a white pontiac,, but its not comfortable for me so i soooo want this suv!!! :))) im already imagining myself driving it:)

@454streetracer ok well I don't own a ford escape but I own a Honda Element and it is the best utility vehicle I have ever stepped in and proud to own. The style is kinda weird but it is like that for a reason. I also drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 but it was meh to me. Not saying don't buy the escape because it is a good car but for road trips I would personally go with The Element.
@regnillif Toyota is outclassed in almost every segment now....I think the only segment where they are still a good option is in Off-Roaders like the 4Runner, but beside that, the whole line up from Toyota can be overclassed by many other cars....Toyota is not longer what they used to be back in the 90s. Unfortunately, they are now nothing more than an overpriced cheap brand basing their prices on a fame that is not longer a reality.
2005 Ford Escape's sudden engine failure due to faulty factory installed spark plugs. Not a safety issue says Ford. Search for 2005 Ford escape problems before you drive it. With a $2,600 average repair cost. I am now waiting for the PCM Ford has had on backorder for 6 years. Goes to show how big the problem is. I feel the chances of finding Osama Bin Laden's body might be better. They can't even tell me how long it could take. Thanks for the 3,000 lb paperweight that I can't drive now FORD.
In 2012 i bought a 2008 Ford Escape with 96,000 miles, it was a nice vehicle at first but 2 years ago bubbling of the paint on the right rear fender now its all rust, the rust spot is about the size of a kids palm and the left rear fender has some bubbling too along with rust on the lip of the tail gate and rust has started on the drivers side back door on the bottom lip. The Front Struts are bad, i just got the Front tie rods replaced along with new control arms because the ball joints were bad and they did not want to come out. The Steering Shaft u-joint had to be replaced a month ago. So yea that's all the problems i have had with my 08 Ford Escape. It has 120,000 miles with a resale value of $4200. WTF. I would at least expect around $8,000..The car is a piece of SHIT.The first and LAST Ford i will ever buy. Fuck my 1991 Jeep Cherokee with 153,000 miles it has some rust the paint is faded it needs work but its drive-able... The NADA has priced the resale value at $3000. Goes to show how cheap vehicles are made now a days and my Ford is a prime example. If only i had the $3000 grand to fully restore my Jeep.
The 2012 Ford Escape is horrible. A lot of complaints about engine trouble. Not good. Not nearly the gas mile they promise, and noisy as hell. The selling point seems to be that they look nice, good interior. But that doesn't do you much good when it's in the shop.

Where I live, I literally can't go out on the road without seeing either an Escape, RAV4, CR-V or Equinox at least once.
10 year update: the Equinox is becoming less common to see on the road where I am because it burns oil
