I love my '08 so much, now I am considering a '12 since she has possibly reached her peak at 220K with original engine and trans. I love the simple styling and want the '12 for the upgrades after after my '08.

I have a 2010 Mercury Mariner Hybrid which is basically the same car. I bought it new and do all my own maintenance. 200,600 miles. I just replaced water pump last week. Car just keeps going and still gets over 30mpg.

The 2010 4WD V6 is my daily driver and has been since I bought it brand new. I got an oil change at the dealer and the service manager said that he used to have the same one and he regrets ever getting rid of it, he told me that all of the new Eco-Sport Engines have recalls on them and to stay away from the new ones.

I bought a 2010 new with a V6 and the towing package and still own it with 75K miles. It's been a really great vehicle and I've got no reason to trade it. I'll keep it and then I will keep it in the family until it's falling apart. And then I might even consider dropping money to fix it up. I've also talked with other 2nd generation owners and the ones that bought it new love them. I think this generation will be a collectors version of the Escape, I've read that is already happening in 2021.

New sway bar links will quiet that suspension down, and a fresh set of KYBs front and rear will keep it feeling as nimble as a first/second gen Escape can. Shocks and struts are very easy on this car. Not a lot of unnecessary disassembly involved other than finessing the cargo area trim out of your way just enough to access the top nuts on the rear shocks.
Not much you can do about the steering feel. It has a bit of a dead zone on center, and the ratio isn't very quick either.
If you were driving the hybrid, you have a completely different braking system from the gasoline models. The initial range of pedal travel feels like a clutch pedal because it only engages the regenerative brakes. Only when you press harder does the pedal engage directly with the hydraulics. It takes some getting used to, but with practice you learn to maximize regenerative braking (which converts momentum to electricity and refills the battery), and minimize hydraulic braking (which wastes momentum via friction), thereby saving as much gas as possible.
I've had a 2011 AWD Hybrid for about two years and have put about 50,000 miles on it. It had less than 75,000 miles when I bought it and it was cheap enough, yet new enough, to put on a three year loan at a good rate from the CU. I even paid it off last month, a whole year early. It's a really good used car value. It's doesn't have the same level of refinement as a Honda or Toyota, but it doesn't carry the sometimes ridiculous prices of a used Honda or Toyota either. As durable as the 2.5l and hybrid transmission are, and as easy as it is for me to work on and maintain myself, I'm sure I'll be able to keep it reliable and driving nice well beyond 200,000 miles. We've all heard about the Escape Hybrids that were going 400,000+ miles as New York taxis. Since I know how to do maintenance, brakes, suspension, and even electrical work should the battery pack go south, half that distance sounds easy to me. We'll see. I just hope that, despite my best efforts with the Fluid Film treatments, it doesn't get ugly with rust on the wheel wells, or it'll have to go. I'll drive something old, just not too rusty or beat up. (I'm way beyond that stage of life.)
I bought my Escape to replace two vehicles that I lost within a few short months of each other. It replaces my blizzard-beater XJ Cherokee that was stolen from my driveway while I slept (thankfully I had the foresight to keep it insured for theft), and my 2013 C-Max Hybrid that met an early end at the hands of an over-tired Uber driver who didn't notice his light was red.
As a replacement for my old outdated Jeep (that I only used occasionally for utility and snow storms), it's fantastic. It always gets me where I'm going no matter how much snow is falling, it has more comfort and room inside, and it uses about half as much gas. But compared to the C-Max Hybrid, it's slow, loud on the freeway, handles relatively poorly when you push it, it has few comfort/convenience features, it only gets up to 30 MPG instead of 40 MPG+, and worst of all, it's boring. I'll keep the Escape, but now that I paid it off, I'm itching for a 2nd car that's much more fun. (Some say Miata Is Always The Answer. Hmmm.)

The 2008 Escapes actually have a good transmission but you can get what's called a "2/4 band" failure that will cost you close to $2K repair at Ford. If you get a 2009 or newer there is actually a transmission recall I believe. Make sure that works has been done by checking the carfax.

I have an 08 with 240k miles on it. I love it. The space inside was a big thing for me as i get claustrophobic easily. Even with 4 adults its still roomy. Does good in snow and ice, but not in rain. It's incredibly easy to hydroplane even if I'm only going 40mph. That being said with the handling on this vehicle it's not much of a concern of mine. Even in thick ice I was easily able to regain control after I started fishtailing. Overall I've had no engine or transmission problems as well and i easily have the best vehicle out of my friend group which is an added bonus.

We have a 2008 Ford Escape with 120,000 miles on it. Change the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles. We did have the front coil springs crack under heavy snow load and -40 degrees up here in Alaska. Also the water pump and belt had to be replaced. Wheel bearings also are a common problem in these vehicles.

I drove a 2009 one for a week in red with tan cloth interior as a loaner vehicle. I gotten a 2015 one in late March 2017 for almost 5 years till it died on me in mid March 2022. Now I drive a 2020 Ford Escape SE in black. My sister had a 2002 Ford Escape for almost 16 years. She inherited my mother’s 2013 Ford Edge. I do loved my 2020 one a lot better for the modern technology in it and using Apple Car Play, too. The first 2 generations were kind of boxing looking for me. In 2012 that I did wanted a Ford Escape as 1 of the cars that I wanted. There was a 2008 on in blue and 2011 in red. I gotten a 2011 Mercury Milan. I wanted a 2012 Ford Focus and any Ford Fusions that they had at the dealership. That is why I ended up with the Mercury Milan because of the low miles on the car. I almost gotten a 2019 Ford Escape but, I will compare towards the 2015 one. I’m happy with what I gotten. My first car was a 1998 Ford Contour SE and my 2nd car was a 2005 Ford Focus ZX5 SES trim level. I have been a Ford gal all of my life. So I grew up on my parents having Ford vehicles over the years. My parents did had different brand of vehicles, too. Even my sister had different Ford vehicles, too. She drove my mother’s car that was a 1985 Ford Tempo for a year and a half during high school. It was on a leased. In June 1991 she gotten a Ford Escort to drive around in. She had the car for a little bit over 6 years. She was in an accident in August 1991 when I was in the car with her. She did avoided another car that did pulled in front of her. She ended up hitting a tree stump. She got mad at the other driver. It was his fault if she hit him. He stopped and then took off. She gotten a 1997 Ford Escort ZX2 with a rear spoiler from a Ford Mustang. It was a cute little car. I gotten used of the Ford Escort during the 90’s. I almost got a 1999 Escort sedan in a dark blue color. It didn’t have power windows. That when I ended up with a 1998 Ford Contour SE as my first car.

I drove a 2009 Ford Escape in dark red color a little bit over a week as a loaner vehicle. I totaled my 2011 Mercury Milan from hitting a deer the 2nd time in December 2016. I did want a Ford Escape almost 10 years ago but, I went towards the Milan. I did have a 2015 Ford Escape SE that I got in late March 2017. I drove the vehicle for almost 5 years when it broke down. Now that I drive a 2020 Ford Escape SE in black. It is so sweet in black color because of the grill that is also in black. My sister used to have a 2002 Ford Escape in black for about 16 years. I only drove it once for a short drive. It was easy to drive. Now my sister has a 2013 Ford Edge in white. She inherited it from my mother. I do loved my newer Ford Escape for being rounder, the size, comfort, and even the technology in it. I won’t give it up since that I have it almost 3 months.

Some Ford Escapes have transmission problems that need to be reset. The Car is great. seriously who cares about buttons. americans and their priorities. all anyone ever cares about in a car is how does it feel when riding in it over roads full of holes that we have no control of. Nothing else matters as much, air conditioning, open the window, does it have wheels and steering wheel. is the inside a toxic wastedump? does the exhaust connect to your face? cars are designed to go fast over unpredictable roads, if it cant' do that, it's worthless. might as well ride a bicycle or walk, at least you can dodge the potholes that way. once you get in a vehicle you share the road with other vehicles which create a safety situation. you cannot slow down, you must drive a certain speed and roads are full of holes and bumps. does it feel like your a rock in a rock tumbler? that is the only important question.
