saw 3d being ranked higher than Jigsaw is truly one of the rankings of all time
it deserves to be ranked higher
Personally, I think in terms of traps as well as lessons learned and plot twists *cough* BRAZEN BULL *cough* Saw 3D ends up being the worse of the two but Jigsaw being under it is understandable, seeing as I could never understand how tf time even worked in that movie.
Jigsaw was terrible. At least 3D ties into the main story

At least Jigsaw didn’t forget everything that made a Saw movie a Saw movie
You may not think Jigsaw is good, which is fine, but to say the movie that nearly led to the death of the entire franchise is better is just baffling
My list and small reasons
10. Saw 3D (gimmicky and rushed to clean up all the plot holes)
9. Jigsaw (Another secret apprentice was not a good idea)
8. Saw 4 (like it but not as much as the others)
7. Saw 3 (Jeff was one of the most annoying game protagonist ever and let all the people die)
6. Saw 5 (think it’s decent and Strahm’s death still gets me every time)
5. Spiral (I like that it’s more on the police perspective thought the reveal was obvious)
4. Saw 6 (the idea of it being based off of health insurance was a pretty good idea)
3. Saw 2 (A worthy sequel that I enjoy)
2. Saw X (Really puts John Kramer into the spotlight and surprisingly makes you route for him throughout the movie.)
1. Saw (Original is just so fun for the mystery itself and you always enjoy seeing that ending twist even after all this time)
Jeff saved the judge only to accidentally kill him lol
You forget that Daniel, Eric Matthews’ son, actually survives by the end of _Saw II_ .
Na he died in Scream 4 lol
@@wrestlerecap1324Eric was the one who died in saw IV with the ice blocks, not his son. Daniel (the kid in the nerve gas house) lived and practically disappeared from the whole series after saw II

Saw 3 and 4 switch spots and then saw 6 goes in front of 4.
For me 6 is easily the nr 1. Great trap scenes and I also loved all the themes of exploitation and profiting by screwing over the deseprate (whether it'd be Simmone and Eddie being loan sharks or Easton and his company going out of their way to deny coverage for people who need it to survive). The movie dealing with real issues similar to what 2 does in regards to police brutality is a massive strength IMO.
Aside from that, while IDK what specific order I'd rank them in I do agree with 1, 2 and X as the other top 4.

My list is pretty similar:

8: Saw 4 (forgettable)
7: Saw 3 (Jeff's plot was annoying and frustrating, but the plot between Lynn, Amanda, and John Kramer was really enjoyable)
6/5: Spiral (Good movie, good traps, albeit very unwinnable, but not a good as the top movies)
6/5: Saw 5 (The fatal five were some great characters, great traps, great story, and am glad some victims survived in the end. Unfortunately, the Straum vs Hoffman plot really holds it back and really don't like that the two plots are very unconnected)
4: Saw (Great movie, but the bathroom trap definitely could've been ironed out more)
3: Saw X (Loved seeing more of John Kramer and Amanda. The traps were creative and characters were likable, though the ending holds it back as it feels a bit forced-- would have rather just seen the two main antagonists in the blood-boarding trap)
2: Saw 6 (Loved the traps and story. Similar to 5, feel like the other plot could have been greater, more connected, but personally feel like it was not as boring as 5's)
1: Saw 2 (fantastic movie all around. Great characters. Great plot. Iconic traps)

Agreed, the ending to Saw is one of the best endings to a movie ever. I still get chills when I see John get off the floor. Totally agree with jigsaw at the bottom, I really struggled to feel anything for Anna. She was such a deplorable character

1. Saw II | Best John Kramer showcase in the entire franchise. Loved his conversations with Donnie Wahlberg, the entirety of the Nerve Gas House ordeals, and the twist surprisingly rivals the original's.
2. Saw | An entertainingly gory approach to the psychological/crime thriller with an absolute beast of an ending, though it does show its age due to its microbudget and acting.
3. Saw III | Unbearably gory, but also oddly heartfelt. The movie's dealings with relationships and trauma, be it through Jeff and his family or John & Amanda, make it the most emotional installment.
4. Saw VI | The FBI plot and William's trial being totally dethatched from each other makes it feel like the most unfocused sequel in the series, even though both are very strong and compelling arcs.
5. Saw X | Great set up, traps, and lead performance by Bell, but the latter half felt off-putting with its apologetic tone towards Kramer, and its climax was everything but satisfying.
6. Saw V | Very underrated cat & mouse procedural between Hoffman and Strahm. The franchise's overarching story finally feels coherent, even if the pacing suffers from flashback indulgence.
7. Spiral | The ending was all sorts of obvious, and the acting leaves a lot to be desired, namely Chris Rock's, but the film does retain the poignancy and crime thriller angle from the better installments.
8. Saw 3D | Its gimmicky visuals, poor acting and plot contrivances detract from an enjoyably bonkers story that's fast paced, features a number of great traps and (mostly) earned fan service.
9. Saw IV | The motivations behind Rigg's trial are ludicrous and the revelations alternate between inspired and half-baked. Despite some imaginative kills, it works the least as a standalone film.
10. Jigsaw | Pointless, dull, incoherent legacy sequel that's both enamored with repurposing the best elements of its predecessors while simultaneously feeling ashamed of being a Saw film.
Welp here's my updated list of Saw films from worst to best!
1. Saw (Best)
2. Saw X (damn good!)
3. Saw II (fun and chaotic)
4. Saw VI (great! Traps were wild)
5. Saw III (decent, story had me interested!)
6. Saw IV (crazy as hell, Ivan definitely deserved his trap. But could've gotten a better story, better pacing, and could've been great but definitely a hit or miss in the series)
7. Saw V (Fair, it was mediocre at best. Ending was shocking! Traps were very clever)
8. Spiral: From the Book of Saw (Meh, even if it doesn't tie in to the original story, as it's own thing, it's pretty okay! Train Trap was the best in the film.)
9. Saw 3D (traps were brutal but the pink blood really annoyed me)
10. Jigsaw (Worst)
Agree or Disagree, this is my list. Saw X definitely went back to its true roots and definitely gave the franchise justice.
Let's hope Saw XI gets green lit. Maybe a Saw XII as an actual wrap up. Probably thinking ahead so we'll see!
I really didn't like Spiral for the awful "I wanna play a game" voice. It doesn't sound intimidating. It either sounds like a child going through puberty or someone that's never used a voice changer. I also didn't like it, and this is just me but I could not disconnect Chris Rock's voice from when he voiced Marty from Madagascar. I just couldn't take his voice seriously. I get that he wanted to be a part of a Saw movie but I just couldn't separate him and his voice from his previous comedy roles he's been in.

I think Jigsaw is still a fun movie despite all of it's flaws, plotholes, etc. I appreciate that the writers were at least trying to be ambitious and creative with all the timeline gymnastics and teasing John Kramer's return from the dead, even if the execution was bad. Even though I probably wouldn't place it higher than 7th or 8th, to say it's worse that Saw 3D is a stretch IMO.

This may be just me, but after seeing Saw X, I feel like the wrong movie was called Jigsaw
Totally agree with your spiral opinions and comments. Beautiful cinematography, the finger trap is one of my favourite saw sequence s. I loved spiral and I would like to see it further explored. My only issue is how much was how much was cut and the MPAA fucked with it. Perhaps Elanor could be involved with William somehow in a future film.

Also, I’ll defend spiral with you as being a good movie, but it having traps and the “I want to play a game trope” just made it feel awkward as it contradicts the whole idea of it not being a “Saw” movie. I think the first two traps are really good (I fucking hate the wax trap though), but again, why have them if this isn’t supposed to be a “Saw” movie. If they really wanted the trap elements, they could have been way simpler or just different, not just a copycat of John Kramer’s traps. The “I want to play a game” line should have been removed entirely, or altered, especially as theses traps were not meant to be beaten.
You probably know but incase you don’t, I think the most impressive thing about the movie franchise isn’t the game or books but the fucking rollercoaster (Saw The Ride). The franchise literally has a whole rollercoaster😂
I cannot say this enough, the fatal 5 trap from saw 5 is my favorite trap ever. I love the twist it is so clever!

My ranking is a bit different from a lot of the comment section but mine is
1. Saw (I love the lesser gore and the twist is so iconic it is magic every time)
2. Saw II (almost wins but just shy, love this movie)
3. Saw VI (the best of the Hoffman movies)
4. Saw X (the best from a technical standpoint but frustrated me a few times)
5. Saw III (loathe the trap plot but adore Amanda’s test, balances out)
6. Spiral (good but Schenk is one of those unfair Jigsaw copycats that I don’t like that much)
7. Saw IV (surprisingly better than I remember after a rewatch)
8. Saw V (Strahm plot is ok but fatal five blows)

Great vid man, I also don’t get the hate on spiral, I think for what it is it’s good.
I have yet to see Saw X, but aside from that:
1: Saw (One of the single greatest twists I've ever seen)
2: Saw VI (Shotgun Carousel is something I won't forget anytime soon)
3: Saw II (A deeper dive into who Kramer was and how he thinks, which I loved)
4: Saw V (The premise of the fatal five was really great)
5: Saw IV (Ivan's trap was great. Rest of the movie is eh)
6: Saw III (Great traps, but slow-ass-mf-jeff takes it down by several points. One of the single most frustrating main characters in the series)
7: Saw 3D (So many issues that speak for themselves. Decent traps though, Silent Circle is insane)
8: Spiral (I love Chris Rock, but the role was weird, the acting, a bit forced, the traps with insane or unfair win conditions, and a twist you'd sorta see coming)
9: Jigsaw (Yeah. No. A decent twist that came at the cost of way too many plotholes that ultimately killed the movie for me).
Finally, a ranking i can fully agree with

It's by no means perfect but absolutely isn't the worst thing to ever come from the franchise (that belongs to Jigsaw, I still hate it personally)
One gripe for me has been how so many STILL say how the traps were unfair when Shenk himself says that's the point! They were executions of dirty cops which that alone is a GREAT idea in concept. I just sorta wish it was done a tad better. Definitely 2 memorable as hell traps in the Tongue Trap & the Chinese FingerTrap
5th place? Even with my slight bias I 1000% agree on that placement. It sounds about right to me too

I thought the traps in Saw X weren't really fair like the leg one and brain one.
Except they were fair. 3 minutes for each test, both Matteo and Valentina waited until at least 1 minute 30 seconds - 1 minute 45 seconds remained before even attempting the tasks provided.
Jigsaw even acknowledges the pain and fear they’ll experience, but instructs and encourages them to not hesitate which is what they did. By the time they died, they only needed mere seconds to achieve victory, but because of them whistling so much time and not listening to the rules properly, the failed.

I never liked Saw 5 because it ends on a disappointing note, Yes it's cool seeing the walls close in, but it shouldn't have been Strahm we watch this movie where Strahm is our lead and we root for because most fans don't like Hoffman (at this point in the franchise) And no character is really likable, there's little to no twist because its obvious. And it's just full of gore in your face, it feels violent just to be violent. Saw 5 really is where fans left and its sad because Saw 6 is really awesome. But I agree with Spiral it brought something new which is Comedy and being the opposite of a saw movie. Its Warm light Yellows Oranges and Reds Instead of the mellow Blues greens and dim yellows. And the fact it focuses on the Cops instead of Traps is amazing seeing a movie from the detectives perspectives. I'm really hoping for a Spiral two because I know it can be way better if it focuses on the drama and tension, my only problem is the Twist, Voice and editing it feels off at points.

Agreed! So glad someone else said it. I couldn't stand the 5th ones characters (players of the games) none of them were likeable at all. Just like you said, it was violence and gore for the sake of violence and gore and that was it. The ending with Strahm was cool, LOVED the wall trap, but the rest was very boring.

Listen, Saw 3 is one of my favorite movies in the franchise, and I still can't really disagree with anything you said about it. The pacing doesn't super bother me because I am okay with slow-burners, but Jeff is a frustrating protagonist and could have been handled way better.
Also, I continue to be part of the Spiral defenders club as well, Patrick, don't worry. Spiral is in my top three. 😂

There's a Saw book!? I need to know more
I really want to but I genuinely can't bring myself to put saw x above the original saw. What made saw x so amazing for me was it really keeping to the original themes of the early movies in tone, setting, and nature of the traps. It would feel like a disservice to rank saw x above the movie it pays homage to in such a spectacular way!

To be clear, the Saw films for me are like my kids: Sure, I definitely *like* some more than others, but I LOVE them all. Saw VI takes the top spot for me because it has one of my favorite moments in all of cinema (“right now, you are feeling helpless”). Saw 3D is at the bottom because something HAS to be at the bottom. But honestly, it’s there due to cheesy effects in the name of shoehorning in the 3D, as well as a story that I feel could’ve been executed a lot better if given a little more time. I cannot overstate how much my eyes roll like a ferris wheel every time Gordon throws the saw towards the screen at the end. It’s just corny as hell. Still love the movie for what it is, but certainly my least favorite of the bunch.
I honestly really like Jigsaw, even with all its flaws. Spiral and the original Saw can swap places depending how I’m feeling on a given day. I love Spiral and will always defend that movie. The idea of it focusing on the police tracking down a Jigsaw copycat who has NO connection to John Kramer is so intriguing to me; plus it has some of the best dialogue in the series (haters gonna hate). The traps were pretty mid, but they were always going to be when designed and built by someone without John’s engineering background or financial/labor resources.
i wouldnt say i dislike spiral but upon watching it, it left me asking questions more than enjoying it especialy first watch.

Overall thoughts about each movie.
Jigsaw was good for what it was, but it definitely doesnt feel canon whatsoever. The twist was ridiculous and so out of place. I liked mostly everything else about it, but only some of the characters from the traps were memorable.
Saw 3D. I completely agree, the color grading and all that was cheesy as heck. The 3D asoect of it shouldnt have been done. I personally enjoy the opening trap the most, strictly because it happens in public, and i did really enjoy the twist ending that referenced Saw.
Saw IV. I agree it is forgettable. It does make you hate Hoffman so much when he starts to become an apprentice and i used to hate him more but as i get older, i do really like the plot of a dirty cop being an apprentice. It only makes sense with the background plots revolving around detectives on the Jigsaw killer.
Saw VI. It was fun? I guess the traps were fun. Im okay with some of the people surviving, because i just get bored when every single person dies in movies. It removes tension. It doesnt let you ask "who is gonna make it?" And then it removes all need to feel any connection or emotion for the character because what is the point? So i enjoy that at the least.
Saw V. This one was good. I do really like the plot with the detectives, as well as the plot with the characters in the traps. Although it just makes ke really wish they'd worked together but i suppose thats the point. Humans will always pit against each other because we suck.
Spiral. I didnt realize overall that it wasnt meant to be a Saw movie, but its only thing set in the sane universe. Even then, I still really enjoyed this. I feel the comedy worked well, i did enjoy the focus on the police investigation. The only gripe was the predictable twist ending. But overall, well done. And even if it isnt a Saw movie per sé, i still count it as one since its the spinoff. The traps in this one were absolutely wonderful. I appreciate it for what it is.
Saw III. Like you, its frustrating. Again, Jeff kills everyone. Its bland. The ending is fun, but i just hate hate hate that every single person died in the traps. It really is something i dont like to be a common theme in most horror.
Saw II. I know most people enjoy this movie, and it is good for what it is. The plot, the twists, the traps. Theyre good. But i think ive just...seen it so many times that ive gotten so tired of seeing Eric Matthews act so ridiculously stupid in this movie. It frustrates me to no end. Its definitely not as high on my list as it is most peoples.
Saw. This one is fun. I love the twist ending, the subtle comedy, the plot. The characters. It was really well done, and its honestly why i got hooked on James Wan as a director. I enjoy lots of his other movies as well.
Saw X. I love this movie. Its definitely my second favorite. I love the medical take on the traps. I love the plots and i genuinely LOVE the focus shifting to John Kramer and his story. I enjoy well-rounded villains. It felt like a really good addition to the franchise.

I would say tie first is saw 10 and saw 4 maybe depending because even though the pace was slow in 10 but I like how in secene the last trap with John and the little kid the kid try to sacrifice his life to save him from blood spill down

From listening to a How to Beat channel, they summed it up to be just another victim who couldn’t beat the game so they killed themself- just adds more fear for Gordon and Adam that someone was there before them and that was the end result.
Why John chose to play the dead guy? I don’t know.

5. Jigsaw. I guess that I like this one more than most Saw fans 🤷♂. It's fun and entertaining. The barn setting and atmosphere are very cool. The "Here's your key to freedom" scene is particularly memorable and epic.
4. Saw X. Surprisingly refreshing, exciting and solid Saw movie. It puts me right back in the spirit of the mid 2000's when I was just discovering the franchise! For me, in terms of quality, Saw X is totally comparable to the Original Saw Trilogy. I've only seen it once, and I feel that it may definitely go higher in my rankings on future viewings (though I don't see it beating my #1).

I can appreciate what spiral was trying to do as a spinoff but as a spinoff I dont think it should be in any core rankings (imo). Its by no means a bad movie but it honestly uses the "jigsaw" inspiration in a really lazy way. Unlike John, who was an engineer, William isn't and the movie should have reflected that in the trap styles. I know they aren't supposed to be completely Jigsaw like but if William's goal was punishment and not rehabilitation, the traps should have been framed as such, not pulling the latter Saw movies thing where they are given instructions on what stops the trap but are actually inescapable regardless of what they do. Maybe in this case not inescapable, but no one would be able to survive after the fact. It took some of the suspense of them having even a sliver of hope to make it through out so I think they should have just leaned into the punishment aspect of it and maybe had them reflect on what they had done while it was going on as opposed to framing it like they could survive. It just felt like they made jigsaw traps and slapped a cop narrative on top and I felt it was done not necessarily entirely bad, just lazy, it needed to be worked through a bit more. I enjoyed the watch regardless, but when I think about it more it ruins it for me 😅

You're entitled to your own preferences or opinion that the og 1 is better but please take that attitude somewhere else tf
Switching 1 and X as the top spot is very hard for me, the character emotion of Saw X and understanding more of John Kramer is just the best in the franchise imo.

I feel it sorta craps the bed in the beginning, craps the bed in the end BUT!!!!!
Everything else in the middle was unusually solid with 1 small problem I have. Other than that, strangely was better than I expected it to be ♡

I love spiral. I really thought they would've did a jigsaw series furthering the idea of a cult of jigsaw. Spiral bring a series explaining how the rest of the world deal with the jigsaw murders.

I enjoy Spiral: From the Book of Saw as a film. I think, as a film, it's a really good movie.
I do not enjoy it in the context of a Saw film. But, as you've said, it's not *meant* to feel like a Saw film.
Spiral is a brilliant cop film.
My top "three" is actually because I can't choose between Saw and Saw X - Saw is fucking flawless imo but the fact that Kramer is the main character of Saw X just puts it on par because I just enjoy Tobin Bell SO MUCH.
Second place for me would be Saw 2. I just really enjoy it.
And my third place is Saw 6.
Then Saw 4, 3, 5, Jigsaw Spiral and 3D.
