A tempo division commonly used is 4/4 So the beat goes 1.2.3.4!-1.2.3.4! but this song goes 1.2.2.3.4!-4!-1.2.2.3.4!-4! So messes really good with someone used to play songs. P.S.: note that is every other beat, not every beat.

@@Corsaka I feel like in music, there need to be terms like "2 base" and "3 base" to easily talk about these common time signatures that are either based on pairs of beats (such as 4/4) or triplets of beats (such as 3/4 and 6/4), then for more irregular time signatures, call it by the weird number (5/4 = "5 base", 7/8 and 7/4 = "7 base", etc.) Maybe there are already terms like this in music vocabulary, but I haven't encountered them.

Through the Flames and Fire is easy (relatively, as far as meme songs go) on drums because still it’s 4/4 rock, which compartmentalises into 2x2/4 really well. That means swapping 2 and 4 wouldn’t make much difference.

To explain how he figures this out: As every "other" beat refers to each 2nd run, and the song has a 4/4 time signature (4 beats per bar so standard stuff), that means beats 2 and 4 are played twice which adds another 2 beats to the bar. That takes it from 4/4 to 6/4 (6 beats in a bar). If you separate that into two runs of 3, then you can apply a standard waltz beat over it. The song typically combines either 2 or 4 bars together so you would want to run 4 bars of 3/4 together to make a measure. With vocals, that'd be the only real way you could do it without making it sound like a total mess. HOWEVER. IF this was instrumental, it'd be so cool to group the first section as 3, the middle as 6, and the end as 3. The melody of the keys and the guits make it sound mega proggy. Loads of potential man, maybe you should consider doing an arrangement of it?

How to bug a drummer's mind: make a broken tempo. He won't be able to walk anymore, and will always confuses himself which leg goes after the other.
Make a song that switches between 5/4 and 3/4 every so often, without a strict pattern.

It's not too hard. In music terms, each beat got divided into triplets. He just has to do an extra beat for every pair of eighth notes.
