Yup. Filmmaking has changed forever. FX houses have a massive release valve from the pressures applied on them by the big 5 studios - if they embrace it.
Take a still from footage you’ve filmed, put it into the AI and write your prompt, cut out the section of the video you want to keep and comp it into your footage.
This is a ridiculously powerful tool for creatives - just absolutely mindblown every few weeks because of this stuff.

I think u wrote it but my mind still tryna wrap around taking a character after you create scene, then creating another promot to continue that character in a fluent manner with the scene so it remains recognizable through different stories.

This is exactly what people said about text to image, and the reality is that when you actually need to control the content in the way a director or artist would your shit out of luck.
So far the only models I've found that have any practical place in VFX is those that speed up roto, upscaling and denoising. Unless SORA offers the same level of control you can get on set from a director and an actor, or the same level of control an artist can achieve in Maya/Houdini Its going to be a very impressive meme generator / stock footage factory
This is not to say that these things wont have a place, or wont progress more but I want to see some tooling that allows for manipulation of the embedding before I see this as a movie set replacement.
The killer use for SORA right now is b-roll, that is unless open AI have come up with some amazing embedding editors

    • @jazzman7320

@@RobertFletcherOBE go look at what Adobe is introducing, where they give you 3d puppets you can use to tell the ai what new pose you want to do, how to differentiate between characters etc.
The tech is all there, it’s just another layer that we don’t have access to yet.
You can customise it all you want, and the ai will apply the same visual flair to whatever new request, and as the video gen proves, consistency between frames is now not only possible, it is profound in its quality.
Edit: however, having said that, totally agree that this is not a replacement at all for a movie set and actual live production. It’s just something to use to help with VFX and getting a few extra shots that seemed too expensive or you just didn’t have time for.
It is very quickly approaching a one-stop shop for filmmaking, though. Someone very soon is gonna make an ai that analyses a scene and looks for context to use in making all the sound design. Of course the work of a sound designer will be more inspired and detailed (for now), but it would make finishing those simpler scenes so much less painful (like commuting and travelling scenes, scenes of characters at work or in public spaces).

If there are any fellow artists out there reading this, I’d love some advice on how not to be depressed during times like this. I’ve followed this channel for a bit and I love this guy’s positivity and optimism, I’m really grateful for it, but all these AI updates kill me.
If I were to summarize it, for me the point of making art isn’t just to skip to the end result. By all means, seeing an amazing piece of work come to completion is wonderful, but it’s the hours of hard work you put into it that give it value, both for the artist and the viewer, I believe.
People talk about how AI will finally give them the ability to complete that film they’ve wanted to make on the side of their job, but if we get to the point where you just snap your fingers and generate the movie automatically, is that really the experience these people were craving? I’m sure when accomplished film directors think of the fondest moments of their career, it’s not just about seeing the final product on the big screen and getting their check, but the tough moments on set where they had to overcome challenges, work with other humans and beat the odds to make an amazing film.
It’s sorta like that Incredibles quote, where if everybody is a superhero, then no one is. I think all this AI news is super exciting because the value of art is still high, but once this becomes the norm, won’t the value of art just plummet entirely?
I’d really love to hear if anyone has takes on positive mindsets and being optimistic. Thank you guys for reading, I really appreciate it.

Your point is valid and I can see you point. But the average viewer doesnt care how you got the shot, how hard it was to achieve a scene etc etc all they care about is the story and how it make it them feel. If you can satisfy those two needs then everything else doesnt really matter. This'll democratise Hollywood just like the music industry has changed with bedroom producers.

    • @Blood_Rapture
      @Blood_Rapture 4 місяці тому +1

for ai to do an artists job properly, it needs to understand everything and be AGI, at which point your job should be the last of your worries. It will make turnarounds faster and make content much more high level across the board. In my industrty the fasetr technology ends up leading to more artist hires because when every joe blow can make cool reels all day, a real company needs to make even more to stand out or stay on par. the clients also expect everything to be fixed in post now.

    • @jum6782

@@LAFELIXMUSICThis is completely different the bedroom producers in the music industry. They still spend hours perfecting their craft and creating music. With AI anyone can make a movie in minutes. No effort, no creativity, no passion. The world will be filled with heaps of AI generated garbage. People will become mindless zombies that will spend every second consuming AI content generated specifically to keep them addicted. This won’t democratize Hollywood it will destroy the point in living; What point is there in living when AI will be able to do everything better than us. Personally I don’t wanna live in a world where the only point of existence is to eat, sleep, consume content, and shit.

There are certainly valid viewpoints on both sides. This is very disruptive technology and at the very least - much change will happen in the industry. We'll see how it plays out in 2024, but this technology, while disruptive, is always enabling people who never had an opportunity to tell their story to reach new audiences with fresh stories and perspectives. Lots of great things can happen from the democratization of these tools :)

Watching all this activity accumulating makes me think of just how much human resourcing went into programming for banking. It was the banking/financial sector that hired and fired sooo many programmers, and now the advancements being made with AI seem to reflect why the world is in a dump economy, because the banks needlessly wasted everyone's money, banks have no money, on 'cybersec', when they should've been promoting healthy finances.

This era is really reminding me a lot of when cgi took over animation in the early 2000s. Disney put all their eggs in the cg basket and laid off all their 2d animators. Now, 20 years later, we need 2d artists more than ever. Why? Because it's so difficult to make cg not look like cg. It's easier and cheaper to make something look handmade when it's actually handmade. "The shortest way to get from A to B is with a straight line." I wouldn't be surprised if a similar story unfolds with these ai art generators.

This is cray fidelity in Sora, but I’ve been thinking about it for a few days; what does it mean for production houses and camera manufacturers , because obviously brands will use these tools instead of hiring out these creatives, but if you include the camera manufacturers , producers, models, copywriters, etc (the many people involved in content and advertising) that’s a lot of people, like a lot lot. It’s not just artists lol.
Surely an Ai company will erase a large part of that economy ?
    Is this a fair assumption?

    • @curiousrefuge

It will definitely be disruptive. But we believe it will be more of a shift at first rather than outright replacement. For example, Sora would be GREAT at replacing Stock Photography/Videos. But it will not be better at having a live actor show true emotion in which you still would likely have all the same production people.

Fire was invented and all the monkeys jumped around it, beating themselves over the head with primitive bone clubs. They did this because they were excited about the fire and they were not intelligent enough to express it in any other way.
Over many thousands of years, the apes evolved and learned to express themselves in less primitive ways. And one day they invented something that was as crucial to their further evolution as fire had been. They invented artificial intelligence.
But they were still primitive monkeys, and so they started jumping around again and hitting themselves over the head with primitive things because they were excited about it. But this time it was the artificial intelligence that made them jump around. And this invention would enable them to express themselves in new and less primitive ways than hitting themselves over the head with a physical object.
The question is whether the primitive apes' level of evolution is enough for them to seize this opportunity. And only time will tell.

I'm calling it. All software like After Effects will be dead in 2 years. There'll be no need to go to the trouble of making motion graphics and effects this way. Adobe will try to add AI to After Effects but in the end it's too big and bloated, and eventually, it will be easier to start from the ground up. After Effects will become a legacy product they'll eventually stop supporting. What they'll create in its place will be entirely centered around AI, where it will use AI as a tool to create the same things After Effects currently does, and more. Even something like Blender will have to change, but I believe it will have a slightly longer shelf life, given that editing and tweaking 3D models will still be useful. In the end, even this will become obsolete.
Currently, we have all these different software tools that create assets that get combined together. Blender for 3D models, After Effects for more 2D (and pseudo 3D) motion graphics, and then generally it all ends up in video editing programs like Adobe Premiere (I'll leave game development aside for now). At the beginning of this evolution, we'll see these software add AI to it, which is where we are now. Like Photoshop with Generative Fill and Blender has some Stable Diffusion integration as well. The second step is forced because the AI will be so good the current tool and its processes will hinder the ease of use. We'll transition to starting from the ground up with AI software, where we'll say, "We need to take full advantage of the AI's abilities" because it will get so good.
Currently, AI still needs tweaking, "fixing" the wonky parts, and the ability to get more and more specific in getting it to do what you want it to do. We're at the stage where before AI was good at developing ideas, but then you go make it like normal, to where you can actually use more and more of the generated imagery (or whatever it is) directly and with progressively less editing required. The reason people will want to use After Effects is because it not only looks good, you can theoretically have pinpoint control over almost everything to get it to look exactly the way you want. Making an image in Photoshop means you have total control over all the layers and pixels. Like making a character in Blender look like a screenshot from a Pixar film, versus using Midjourney to make the exact same quality of image, Blender is currently better because you have complete control over it. There's only so much you can do with a still from something like Midjourney.
With OpenAI's Sora, even if it was perfectly consistent and had no AI weirdness at all, to actually make films with it and replace all the current software and actually filming real actors in real places, we need to be able to have at least as much control as we have the traditional non-AI way of doing things. The extent that we don't have that control will dictate how much AI will completely take over as the basis of graphic design and filmmaking. So AI will get better and better, first generating 3D models we'll use in Blender, that we'll be able to tweak and also assisting people's custom designs where we'll be able to take someone's sketch and it just makes it for you, saving time, to taking someone's 3D model and making all kinds of variations instantly as well as developing other assets consistent with the same style. But at some point, the AI will get so good at generating full videos like Sora that we'll not need the 3D models anymore. In the end, we want to make a film, so what will happen is we'll have tools that give us all the same CONTROL as we currently have but where it's generating the whole thing. Where we won't need After Effects to take an AI generation and animate it, we'll just talk to the AI and ask it to change this and that, and it will do it, and we'll say "make it bluer, make it more liquid-like, make it look more 3D, okay too much, make it look more like it's painted, more like watercolors, add some glow, make the glow more cinematic and natural, make it look like a stop-motion animation of watercolors painted on paper that's been composited into a scene, give it a 35mm film look" etc.
As a music composer, I see AI Music as becoming ridiculously good over the next 2 years, and yes it will be used straight in low-budget productions like those using library music today (like stock images), but people will still want to make and want to have music created by composers especially at the start of this change because AI won't be able to write music to picture very well. In theory, composers have complete control over everything right now, and film music can get very specific in terms of reacting to a scene. And the effectiveness of a scene can be completely different with even an extremely subtle difference. We're HIGHLY sensitive to this, even if we don't consciously know it. At the start, we'll be able to use sample library virtual instruments to create mockups that will be able to be converted to an AI recreation that sounds like real instruments recorded literally however we like. The point of the virtual instrument will be to provide base information for the AI to know what you want it to generally sound like. But in the end, you'll be able to take something recorded with General MIDI and so long as you didn't try and make it play something totally unrealistic for the instrument, you could get it to generate your composition as if you'd just received a recording done by the London Symphony at Abbey Road, in the audio engineering style of John Williams' E.T., or some Hans Zimmer score. The AI Voice conversions we have now are already very good. I can change myself into a female singer, a good female singer, even though I'm a man and not a great singer. So I can get a recording that I sung on a cheap microphone that sounds like a decent recording by a male or female singer.
The point is we need tools that use the AI to the maximum, and that's how it's going to make all these current tools redundant. And since we will want to take advantage of the AI as it gets better, we'll have to start from scratch for a lot of current software
