I suspect Mark Motram and Buster Reeves got job offers after season 5 ended, so they didn't stick around for The Ashes. Which was a good chance for Emil to come back after the sad way he lost in the domestic series. Sadly, he was paired up with Paul Reynolds, the only contender who was faster than 2 Scoops. Brilliant speed.
between 1995 - 1997 there was International Gladiators & The Ashes BUT Not all contestants was Winners from there Countries shows , Runners up was in them as well.
And when you all are watching this 1st heat of the 2nd Ashes Series 1996, on the 1st event Pendulum, Sarah Damm (United Kingdom) had picked up an injury from her ankle when she had a fall after being up against and chased by Glacier (Australia), and if she couldn't compete 5 more events, there would be a substitute contender that she would be replaced by.... Michelle Kimberly (United Kingdom) (a modern pentathlete from Evesham, Worcestershire) as a stand by.
I haven't seen this in 20 years. Thank you. I'm not sure Emmil Watson was the best choice in contenders? Mark? Buster? Would have done much better. Marisa is one of my most hated contenders of all time. Even in the Australian series she comes off as a bit up herself.
It should also be noted that of the eight Aussie Gladiators that made the trip to Birmingham, seven were in the previous Ashes series in Brisbane, while Delta, Fury, Storm, Tower, and Vulcan also competed in the second International Gladiators series, and Glacier competed for Australia in IG2 under her civilian name Lourene Bevaart.
Tubewings It's interesting how Flame and Hammer were not involved in this, seeing how well known they are now at this stage to UK audience. It wouls had been better 10 per team. There are 5 male UK glads in this series and 4 female. Falcon of course was due to take part but was unfortunately got injured in last minute rehearsals. I can only assume she was original planned by producers to participate in Pendulum instead of Vogue who is useless at it. At this stage she should had been able to cope with moving fast down to the bottom of the Pendulum when contenders go low. But instead she just stays put afraid to risk falling off. Look at Glacier, her first outing as a gladiator carrying more weight than Vogue and she's much faster and willing to risk falling in order to put up a chase.
Maybe the reason why there's only eight Glads on the Australian side was due to budgetary reasons. I mean, they had to fly out the Gladiators, Mike Hammond, John Forsyth, the contenders and potential substitutes, as well as supporters from Australia. Also, the first Ashes series only had eight Gladiators from the UK competing in Brisbane (include two that hadn't made their televised debut yet). And, for the record, that actually wasn't Glacier's first outing on the Giant Football (my personal nickname for the Pendulum). She had previously competed in the event twice during the International Gladiators series under her civilian name and won both times (of course, on this occasion, SHE was the one chasing the contenders instead of being chased herself).
Tubewings... Yeah as I said her 1st time as a gladiator. She was on it as a contender twice.. Funny enough up against Vogue in the IG2 final. So with that experience adventage, no doubt she was first choice out of the 4 female glad to compete in it. As a gladiator she was a lot faster on it than a contender, going for it, not afraid to take a risk and follow Sarah underneath, where as a contender she was not as fast, more sensible to avoid capture but keep glads in sight.
Considering that TV channels haven't aired anything featuring Mark Speight (one of the celebrities in the special) since his suicide in 2008 (not even the episodes of SMart which featured Speight as presenter, which he was best known for), I highly doubt it, but who knows. When they last aired Season 6 (1997) during 2008 - 2011 on Challenge, the Celebrities Vs Jockeys Special was replaced by the first Ashes Grand Final, and went straight the Series 7 (1998), skipping the first Springbok Challenge entirely.
The one in the UK is all on UA-cam, albeit with bad quality and the only part that isn't on there is the mens eliminator in the 1st semi final. Sadly I think there is only one episode available of the Springbok challenge in South Africa.
@@magicalsenshi8685 In November 2017, Challenge aired the Series 6 domestic series final then went straight into Series 7 (1998), thus skipping the 1997 post-domestic series episodes (Celebs V Jockeys & Springbok 1) due to circumstances surrounding celebrity contender Mark Speight's death and as for the Springbok Challenge mini-series it's to do with clearance issues with MTN since it was a joint venture between UK and South Africa and as someone pointed out elsewhere in the comments section, it was also to do with MTN Gladiators undergoing a massive overhaul for their fifth and final series that resulted in numerous changes to cast, crew, presenters etc.
I'm sure Lightning issued a complaint to both Johns after the event, and was likely promised that if she (Marissa) did that again, she'd be disqualified.
I'm betting Marissa probably convinced John Anderson that it was unintentional, but was warned that if she did it again, intentional or not, she would be disqualified.
44:50 The FIRST TIME EVER That The Eliminator Had To Be Stopped Because BOTH Contenders/Challengers Couldn’t Get Up The Travelator After 3 Failed Attempts due to Contenders/Challengers fatigue!
Emmil was unlucky during Swingshot as I felt if Paul hadn't touched the cylinder he would've had another 2 RED BALLS in the basket meaning another 6 POINTS could've been his!
Did VULCAN step across before Emmil left with both feet off the podium, if so wouldn't that count as a step-across for the gladiator, your opinions on this question please.
In the slow motion replay of the Swingshot incident it seems the cylinder was out of range so Paul put his hand on it to pulling it towards him and in doing so was able to get easier access to THE BLUE BALLS. Contenders you've been warned already keep your filthy hands off the cylinder!!!
In SWINGSHOT it would seem the contenders are allowed to touch the Silver Section of the Cylinder at the bottom but that's all, Paul grabbed the yellow section of the cylinder so that counts as the contender interfering with the cylinder not allowed.
Much as I don't like Michelle after the illegal moves on the travelator in Series 5 I was disappointed when she couldn't take advantage in the Sudden Death Race-Off at the end.
I agree with G quinn in the fact that I never really like Sarah Damm much myself either, but their again her replacement Michelle Kimberly isn't exactly a well behaved contender when it came to her 1st Eliminator now was she! So in my opinion she seemed to be a very ideal replacement for the injured Sarah Damm.
Seems like Emil may have been a last minute replacement by the fact he didn’t seem to have any fans with him and at the interview it’s referenced he came here “on his own” might have been one of the other season 5 contenders dropped out. Maybe buster or FAZZA
I also thought that the Australian's when it comes to sport never play fairly at all, and now Marissa has proved me right during Hang Tough with Lightning. John Forsyth the Australian referee in this contest should be sacked, still having said all of this, the UK Series lasted much longer than the Australian Series so that's the end of Australia for Gladiators.
Nope. The second Ashes Series aired on Challenge when they had the rights previously (I watched it when Challenge started airing Series 5 - 8 again back in 2008).
Ah. The only clips of the Ashes 2 series that I saw prior to this posting were from the GladiatorsBoy (James Morris) channel that he posted in 2006/2007, so they were original broadcasts. I can't recall anyone else posting the episodes during that time.
Speaking of International series, the first Springbok Challenge (the only one to air in the UK), which aired after Series 6 (1997), has never been aired on Challenge, so here's hoping Challenge have the rights this time.
Springbok was broadcast in South Africa too but they had a couple of extra episodes filmed especially for their channel I believe. These extra episodes were never broadcast in the UK, just the tournament alone.
How do they decide to pair up contender and gladiator in events such as Duel? Doesn't seem fair that Marissa gets 6' 2" 83kg of Rio and Michelle gets the 5'5" 55Kg's of Storm.
@@davidfearis7335 From what I've read on the Gladiators Facebook club, it seems that South African Gladiators Fire, Force and Diamond stated that the producer of the first 4 seasons of MTN Gladiators (possibly referring to Glenn Hicks, who was also the presenter) disappeared from the show with the legal rights of the footage and the money, and it's possible that the first Springbok Challenge (co-produced by LWT) could have been caught up in this, but I could be completely wrong. By the way, I believe the distributor for the UK Gladiators series is now MGM Worldwide Television Distribution (their logo was seen at the end of the US broadcasts), rather than ITV Studios Global Entertainment.
@@magicalsenshi8685 Yes that what I read aswell, there's another reason for the above-stated low-key departure from Glenn Hicks after the fourth series of MTN Gladiators that hasn't been mentioned yet, it was to do with the criminal allegations made against the long-serving presenter/producer of the South African series, that resulted in MTN Gladiators under-going major format changes for what turned to be it's fifth and final series before being cancelled due to declining ratings.
Regardless of air/film dates this should be watched/ordered in the playlist AFTER series 5 so that you get the introductions to the new UK gladiators.
that glacier aka lourene bevaart who was a contender & came on UK v Aussie before she became a gladiator

Michelle flew into the hearts of men across the nation with that spectacular Hang Tough
I can’t believe UK Gladiators Battle Of The Ashes started with a game that is simply made the contenders and gladiators “air sick”!
This episode gave away that the interviews at the start are taped later. Sarah is already injured and can barely walk to Mike Hammond.
between 1995 - 1997 there was International Gladiators & The Ashes BUT Not all contestants was Winners from there Countries shows , Runners up was in them as well.
Hi O'Shea,I'm looking forward to it!

O'Shea I've always personally wished even 20 years watching this that Michelle beat Marisa, even though I'm an Aussie myself 😁
Vulcan: Listen to me, you Brits. I didn't come here to lose. That's was so easy!
Bud: Boo! Nasty man.

So exciting isn't it!!! I've actually never seen heat 2 or the finale so i'm super excited for next week :D Apparently Delta does Pendulum!
Probably Buster Reeves
Emil may have been brought in as the producers felt bad about the rubbish with the scramble net on the show
32:40, i wonder if John Anderson ever found an antidote for Wolfy?
Bad editing by the production team. On swingshot at 21:49 there’s no yellow balls but at 21:57 the cyclinder appears to be full of yellow balls. 😃

I wonder if Challenge is going to re-air the Celebrities vs. Jockeys episode as well.

I actually wasn't into gladiators as much after 97 after nightshade and jet left and stuff when I was younger so I didn't watch it as much.
