Yeah, I've always made the argument that people who request this should provide a little bit of context. The only reason I say that is because they distract themselves from reacting for the first 30 seconds because they are wondering where Kevin is. It's quite frustrating. But I don't blame the reactors, they don't know any better. The people who request this video need to do better.
He did note that he can hear Kevin, but he was wondering why he wasn't on stage. A heads up that Kevin is putting his cello away and then enters on the other side of Scott when they move over should be provided though.
@@snuggleshuggles4257 I know he did. I'm not talking about him. I'm talking directly to the jackasses who are making the request. They are very stupid and im gonna keep calling them out until they try harder.
Mitch started out this career so shy and not putting himself forward. Fame and fortune seems to have agreed with him. He's no retiring wall flower anymore. Now he's happy to be a sassy showman.
I personally think Avi or Scott have the best voices in the band but thats just a preference thing, not that I don't love Mitch's voice or Kirstie's, or now Matt's
Xavi Mace i agree as a preference for their time. But i think what the other members were referring to about Mitch is that yes, he has perfect pitch (as do Kevin and Kirstin) but he is so consistent that the group always tunes off of his pitch. Also, his voice is the most consistent- always solid form and tone- lots of control
Great reaction! If you wanna hear Mitch go higher, then check out Superfruit’s Defying Gravity! It’ll blow your mind! You may or not know but Superfruit was Scott and Mitch’s side channel.
So the story goes that Mitch had two Red Bull drinks beforehand to combat jet lag... there are the results!! Amazing performance for the whole concert. Scott & Kirstin holding down those tight harmonies the entire song!
Kevin was on the other side of Scott but this was the mitch show so you don't see too much of the others. check out mitch and Scott's superfruit video of Defying Gravity, mitch's vocals are insane. side note on this concert Avi blew the speaker. there is another video of this same concert where they do lady gaga's song telephone. you can hear the distortion in the speaker. we knew you'd love this.
Kevin was putting his cello away from the previous performance. If you watch again the initial gap between Kirstie and Mitch is greater-but it gets smaller as Mitch moves closer to Kirstie when Kevin joins the stage on the other side of Scott. The camera person was such a huge Mitch fan that you never end up seeing Kevin but you could def hear him! Glad you enjoyed what all of us Pentatonix s do with this video-all that amazingness live! ❤️
Kevin was putting away his Cello from the previous number during the intro piece. You did good noticing the extra space between Mitch and Kirstie! During the part where Avi captivates us with his descent into the sub-stratosphere (j/k! it was LOW though!) Mitch and Scott walk to our left a few paces and Kevin hopped on stage beside Scott for the main number!
Nice reaction!! Watch it again; Just as the camera is moving toward Avi, you can see Mitch beginning to move into that empty spot between him and Kirstin.
As a couple of others have said, doing "Christus Factus Est" to open was Avi's concept. It's a sacred piece he had performed with his college choir before being recruited into PTX, and he knew it would segue very nicely into "Aha!". Just for fun, here's the link to that performance. It gives you an idea of the grounding and training he had in great vocalization. Avi is in the back row, about a third of the way from the left. Can't miss his hair and beard, lol. ua-cam.com/video/BIn-wM5sVM0/v-deo.html
By the way, this concert was very close to the point where Ben Bram recommended Avi to Scott, and the rest became history. (Avi had a beauty school haircut right before The Sing Off audition for PTX, and he's said that, if he could go back in time and give any advice to his younger self, it would be to not get that haircut because it was awful. Funny that that's what he would forewarn about.)
After Avi left PTX in September 2017, the group had to change the way they performed "Aha!". It seems that at first they just launched right into the song, but it was too abrupt and really did need a lead-in. But what they chose just doesn't work, in my opinion. "Greensleeves"? Nope.
The opening with Avi who is a trained Basso Profundo actually blew his speakers when he hit that low low bass note lol. Avi & Mitch were supposed to do a bit of a battle midway through but you can hear the distortion of Avi's speakers...Mitch was let's say very 'relaxed' that night with having had a little beverage before hand. lol but all in all a very memorable performance from the awesome PTX
I am so glad that you did this! This version has so much more focus on the song itself, rather than the distractions of the visuals in the video. And your reaction was exactly what I had hoped it would be. Fantastic!
YESSSSS! This video is so frustrating. It is one of the most epic live performances of all time, and you never even see Kevin's elbow - and he is standing right next to Scott through all of Aha!. It's a real shame the recorder did not back up enough to show him. During Avi's incredible solo, Mitch turns and walks to center stage. Scott follows and Kevin steps in next to him. You can certainly hear Kevin - this would have been half what it was without his beat and rattles and whooshes. OH WELL...
I agree. However I’m incredibly grateful that they got everything they did in this video! It’s almost like they knew EXACTLY what to film ahead of time, it’s that perfect! But it would have been really great to see Kevin for sure!!!
Kevin was putting away his cello, then you can see Mitch and Scott get closer to Kirstin to give some space to Kevin The focus is on Mitch thats why they don't show when Kevin arrives
I didn’t catch it until I read a comment a while back, but at the end of Avi’s amazing solo part you can see Mitch moving toward Kirsten to make room for Kevin. Mitch goes at least this high on Defying Gravity on Mitch and Scott’s SuperFruit channel. Another SuperFruit video to check out is Frozen. And for any SuperFruit videos DO NOT end it after you think it’s finished. They usually include their bloopers.
I think I've seen this particular video version about a gazillion times. Its SOOOOOO goood!!! Just an fyi... you know who else has an amazing voice? Paolo Nutini. 😉
At the beginning of the song you can see the gap between Kirstie and Mitch, Kevin was there playing the cello then whilst doing the Christus Factus intro he was off stage putting his cello away. Just before Avi does his solo you can see Mitch turn and start closing the gap towards Kirstie. Kevin then takes the stage on the end next to Scott but is never shown during this as the person is concentrating on Mitch, and why wouldn't you.
There is a "interview" version of We are Young from a interview with Hollywire, in the hurry they grab the interviewers mic for The trio and the one they used goes with the rythmesection, they forgot the 5 on the tabble behind the couch. 😀 No earpieces, no mixing, just skills and talent. 🥰
Ok. It's not all live versions, just this particular live version. Kevin was putting away his cello, he came back on stage during, he's just not in the video. So yes, you do hear him. Avi thought they should add a precursor to the song, hence that choral sounding beginning.
LOL...I think the two most asked questions by reactors are: Where`s Kevin? And Who`s singing bass? In the Hallelujah vidieo...BTW...Your reactions are a joy to watch!!! I did subscribe, rang bells and all that BS lol
at 2:19 you can see Mitch and Scott start to move closer to Kirstie to close the gap and make room for Kevin to stand to the right of Scott. The camera person just never pans over past Scott so you don't see Kevin, but he's there.
So much better than the studio and video versions. They were still practically kids when they did those. The acting in the original video was kind of amateurish, and obviously Mitch’s range wasn’t demonstrated. I think just the few years between the video and this live performance gave them time to make spectacular growth in range and talent. The original stuff does not demonstrate the range and talent we know today. I wish I had been at this concert!
My favorite comment is from Anessa Lyn: “I have 2 questions for you? You awake now? How's your heart? Avi blew the speakers, Mitch took off the roof. But him on the floor moving towards the audience, you know guys and girls in the front row probably needed CPR.”
Love your reviews! Also, I am like you, I think this one and the words are not as clear, so watching the Official video first and then this one allows you to enjoy the live version more. Now, Mitch did not just own the performance of Aha, but he dominated it, the song looked up and said, Anything Else Master Mitch?
They added this opening too give Kevin a little break to put away his cello. We don’t see him on this video but he is back. Mitch needed the spotlight on this one
To give you a little backstory before this song well Kevin was on stage Mitch was backstage suffering from Jetlag and slammed two Red Bulls they kicked in as the song started
I've read other comments that Kevin was putting away his cello but came on during the song. You noticed the gap between Kirstin and Mitch at the beginning of the video but around the 2:36 mark and from then on, you can see that they are beside each other. My thought is that Mitch and Scott moved to their right during the song and Kevin went on beside Scott but the person taking the video never filmed him.
I think by the time this live version was done Mitch head come into his own He had really developed Mitch's sound. When the camera moves over to avy during the coral part you can just see Mitch stepping into the center closing the gap between him and Kirsty. That's when Kevin comes Back up on to the stage and he's to the right of Scott. As people said Kevin was putting his cello away. The distortion you hear just before Mitch goes down on to his knees is avy blowing out of speaker. I think it's good that you did the original 1st so you knew how the song went and then followed it up with the live version. But I am probably in the minority there. Both of them were very good reactions
Mitch says that when he sings this in concert it’s like he’s telling off all the people who gave him crap about how high his voice was in his life. He just dumps all his emotion into it.
It's just so sad that the speakers couldn't handle Avi's low note :( It really muddled much of the rest of the performance...his and Mitch's play was brilliant, but very, very hard to hear.
There are twelve videos from the Singapore show and each one of them is great. If you decide to do more, start with their cover of Problem The Star Vista b/c that was the beginning of the show. Then, it just gets better from there. Here's the link to the full list: ua-cam.com/play/PLYtGn4_3Wz89CIkJrABKXHbZ62wx68_4c.html
I get so upset when people ask where Kevin is. I have got to start telling new reactor about that before they watch any other video bc they always do aha out of the blue. Kevin has a cello boxing solo (which he started but is now being taught in schools bc of him) before this so he was putting his cello away. Avi taught them this choral piece so it would give Kevin time to put it away.
I don't understand why you'd get upset? I think it's nice. He's a huge presence in the group. His absence should be alarming. If someone hasn't seen the video, they have no way of knowing the backstory. You tell them. They know. Happy ending.
