Paul and the whole FabRATS crew, thank you. Since deciding to retire early I’ve got lazy. You’ve inspired me, I’ve bought an old Nissan Navara pick-up - you know the ones with the chassis that rusts (Scotland = rusty cars) - and get out the plasma and mig.
Hey Paul. I teach welding in Astoria Oregon just found your channel. Liked and subscribed. You keep it real. I share fab rats weekly with my students. The FJ is a great project to follow. .
Old guy here. People we’re putting small block Chevys in Landcruisers in late 1970s. There used to be an adapter to bolt Chevy to stock trans. If remember correctly, one put a big block in one here in SanJose,Ca. This will be a great build !
I think this jeep is going to be perfect. What a great fabricator, I only wish I had Paul's skill. I'm not sure who does the editing, but who ever it is I find it interesting to watch. I know it takes a ton of time putting the pieces together to make a good video, so thanks we appreciate it.
Lookin Awsome!!!!... the step by step process shows people what happens....others send it out and all of a sudden it's done....your explanations are so easy to follow
Remember to put the dog in another room when welding, there eyes burn faster than ours!😎 Just a heads up. Can't wait to see this FJ completed lots of awesome videos to come.👍
Paul it is amazing watching you fabricate! True genius, I absolutely love watching and learning! Just to be able to work with you, would be a dream come true!
We all wish we had your skills and creativity. And your shop and tools. And a wife and family that enjoys all that you do together!! Watching all of you is a great second best. God Bless you and your family.
I enjoy watching all your fabrication projects but this truck has me at full attention with the notification bell on! It has such a super cool 4x4 look to it!
Reminds me of my 46 willys with a 64 covet 327 build. You got to make every thing. Take your time and think it trough, hind site is always 20/20 (like drain plug holes) in skid plate and grease fitting access. Great job.
Trick for installing a distributor and getting the wires right without heartburn and without even checking for TDC. Install the distributor, point the rotor to one terminal on the cap (it does not matter which one) after aligning the timing mark on the damper, install the wires according to the firing order and according to the direction the rotor turns, try to start the engine. 50% of the time it will start. If it does not, flip the wires 180 degrees. Now it will start.
When a stud or bolt is broken deep in a hole you can use a little piece of copper tubing the width and depth of the hole as an shield. Lower gas pressure and run a inch or so of extra wire out the tip. Works like a charm!
Many years ago I had to remove 2 broken studs from the very rear of the head on my Nissan patrol. Right up against the firewall. Never done anything like that before. NFI how to do it. So I figured out that welding a nut over the remains of the stud would work. And it did. Now I find out that the whole world knows how to do it.....Sheesh......
I'm really lovin your FJ rock crawler build Paul . I swear I could watch this build coming to life everyday . You are such a great fabricator and I could learn so much from you . Keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to your next video . Until next time take care and be safe to you and your family ( new shop dog included ) . P.S . You need to do another " Name that part with Michelle ) LOL .
you are quite the fabricator......and you always seem to be prepared in the safety area......good job.....and that camera lady is doing a great job.....your wife....she's funny......
Hey Paul, I'm eager to see how this beast will turn out. Toyota & Chevy motors are a marriage made in heaven. They're not called Chevotas for nothin'! Been a badass combo for decades. Boulders will quake in fear at your approach.
Kinda like I cut 2x4's(or anything else) I cut them off twice and they are still to short.........nice looking build so far!!!! Love this stuff!! You should have a million subs.
The FJ is looking fantastic, I'm so happy you found a truck that you always wanted to build. Keep up the great work and God Bless you and your family. 🔥💯💪🏼👍👍🙏🙏✌😊✌
Enjoy watching your videos, always so calm (at least on video..ha ha). Very talented, like how you explain things keeping it simple for the non-moto heads. Like that you and Matt are friends, you complement each other and it's fun to watch the two of you. Keep up the great videos. Being retired Navy of 21 years, it would be nice to see you incorporate some type of Veteran recognition/theme into one of your builds.

Good morning and thanks for the "Fab class". Your explanations of what you are doing and why; are a real education. These initial decisions about clearance, height, and clocking are the foundation for all sorts of decisions to come. Your supply guys need to be watching these videos to see how many people are taking notice of the products you elect to use.
All the time. Heaps BJ40's (BJ is the diesel) have been swapped here in NZ, Ausi, Malaysia etc. Great thing is the standard tranny and drive train can handle it.

Headers are notorious for under hood temps. If your going to keep them I suggest a good exhaust wrap to keep the heat in. Nice job Paul and great vids.
Looks dope. Needs some Frame stiffening. That could be a solution for the miscut pipe. Just make the frame fatter. Plus id be blown away to see some Legit Toyota tundra or Tacoma interior parts integrated into that adding a modern Toyota twist to it. A sorta hats off to Toyota's heritage.
The old Toyota's seemed to be designed for a V8. We have no probs bunging in a small block, or Big block, with a few mods. Plenty of room in the engine bay too. Have to say love the lil pup. Such a cutie, stayin out of the way under your tool chest.
LS into an FJ has been done quite a few times so no worries about if it will fit... Question is really what other crazy stuff you're going to do to it to make building it more difficult! And that is well worth waiting to see. I look forward to it.
I'm putting a 5.3L in an FJ40 right now, too. I also had one exhaust manifold bolt broken off in the head. Welded a nut to it and spun it out on the FIRST try! ;)

Love the FJ build. Keeping me motivated while I'm laid up from surgery. Can't wait to get back to work on my 53 Dodge M37. Keep up the great work.
Gonna be a sweet build! I had a buddy who had a shop dog go blind because it loved to stare at the welder.
My favorite dog went deaf 'cause we let her hang out during target practice.

This is going to be an awesome build! Look forward to the completion. Thanks Fab Rats!

I love watching your plan come together. Even if I have no idea what the plan is!
you are so talented Paul, all the customizations looking good!

You essentially bought an old metal box and now your going to build a truck in and around it! Awesome! :)

I've used 1/8" black pipe nipples, too. Often enough that I used to keep a couple in my tool bag when I was still playing millwright.

I ordered some stickers and got them today. They are cool as heck the wife even said I could put one on the Toyota. Thanks Paul's mom!
