Thanks for a great upload! Love this show. I think the biggest lesson to learn from Ivan's interview is the fruits of tenacity. Very inspiring for anyone attempting to enter the business.
41:30 - $100,000 in debt and 21 years old, but he's made a distribution company and a film, as opposed to having a film school BFA and _nothing else._ Gee, if I had a time machine...
+Matthew Ward I would say if you have been watching films for the last 25 years, and the curve they have taken, there is room- so much room for small quality product now. There is more outlet for said product as well. Big budget cartoons rule the roost but good stories, like Gone Girl and Juno will alway float to the top.
If Julia Roberts really did in fact audition for the role in Ghostbusters then that wasn't after Mystic Pizza. Mystic Pizza is 1988. She only had an uncredited role before that I believe in 1987. Ghostbusters was shot in late 1983. Not to mention that Julia was 15-16 around that time. So I'm pretty sure that's bullshit. I've heard him say this anecdote in other interviews too, don't know why he keeps mentioning it when it's either complete BS on his part or just a bad memory thing.
gocsa Exactly. I just finished watching a Reitman interview on Netflix where he claimed to have auditioned Julia Roberts for Ghostbusters. He must not be too sharp mentally anymore. Roberts would have only been 15. So odd that he keeps repeating it... You'd think he'd have a friend who could help straighten him out. Oh well. Memory is a tricky thing.
I'm pretty sure he got confused. He said he saw "Mystic Pizza" which was 1988 (same year as "Twins") so I'm actually thinking that it might have been for the Penelope Ann Miller role in "Kindergarten Cop."
I'm in mourning today. Rest in Peace. He was a filmmaker and a showman.
RIP and thank you, Ivan.
Fascinating guy so many layers. Makes me realize there is a lot behind great movies. Sad he passed away but what a legacy including his son.
I love these videos. Pollak is great and guests are top notch.
One of the most interesting interview I've watched! Ivan is a fantastic and natural story teller, and very inspiring.
I would LOVE to read Aykroyd's 80 page treatment for Ghostbusters
This is film school - DIY and never quit.
ATM I'm in Life school : And whaddya know it's the same syllabus!
Ivan Reitman seems like a genuine down to earth guy. Loved the interview. Fascinating guy.
Legend.
Thanks for another great show.
one of the best KPCS episodes
Fantastic interview - many thanks!

pro tip: watch series at kaldroStream. I've been using them for watching loads of movies these days.
@Sonny Elliot Yea, I've been watching on KaldroStream for years myself :D
John Candy was first in the movie," 1941" (came out in 1979)
This is one of the best KPCSs ever!
The Peter Weller one is preddy flippin' inspirational stuff! :)
I wish he had talked more about Kindergarten Cop
Anyone else think Ivan and Kevin Nealon look like they could be brothers?
What a completely extraordinary life story.
Interviews with dead guys are the BEST ...
Bc you can convict them of anything
I wish IR would have talked about "Private Parts".
Skip the first 19 minutes of KP talking about himself to finally see Ivan Reitman. (18:50)
GHOSTBUSTERS!

0:41 Kevin, Jaime, and Samm

If you have a story, some talent visa vi actors and an ipad, you can make a film. But you gotta do it.
Hugh-John Fleming My point was that I wish I had a film to sell _before_ I went into debt, hehe.

+Matthew Ward Maybe you have seen 'Blue Ruin.' Amazing film. It's on Netflix and it cost nothing and was made by nobodies. Just sayin'.
Reitman at 18:50
Great!
looks related to Kevin Nealon...
Skip ahead to 57 minutes and the real career info starts.
Kevin is the best there is. Ask his guests, they'll tell ya.

gocsa He could be talking about Ghostbusters II?
I felt exactly the same thing. Maybe it was for TWINS.

actually she filmed Satisfaction in 1986/87 so she would have been around auditioning for everything
