Said story is, the engineer who spent several decades leading this project died just a few months before it was completed.
The chicoms pushed his delete button. The scientist knew too much of what is really happening.
The Chinese telescope's instrument platform weighs 30 tons, and the one at Areccibo weighed 900 tons. Arecibo was in need of massive upgrades and design improvements.
Chinese stuff is notoriously thin and flimsy. Nobody is surprised by the weight difference.

the creators of the new radio telescope bought the radio telescope from arecibo years ago but it was really deteriorated because the money that was supposed to go to the radio telescope was stolen by the governer Ricardo Rocello and his crew and in puerto rico's economy it's better to let it rust away than to restored but puerto ricans are trying to make a new one
also the radio telescope was private property so even if puertoricans had the resorces to fix it they can't fix it

FAST excels in its sensitivity and vast collecting area, which enables it to detect weak signals from distant celestial objects. However, its primary function is different from the radar-based capabilities of Arecibo. If they wanted to, m sure they'd have done it.
I really wish that china would share their discovery of the universe using this telescope.
