"Hands" is a fondly remembered Irish television program that ran from 1977 until the early 80's and showcased some of the country's finest craftsmen and women.
How could anyone get tired of watching this series of videos I have watched them so many times I have lost count the man is a master craftsman second to none He makes every stroke of his plane or saw look so easy with the simplicity of making a cup of coffee he creates a beautiful piece of art that keeps so many happy. When he is gone how many are going to step up to continue his work 😔we can only hope he has an apprentice 😊👍🇦🇺
Jimmy what an absolute legend, the craftsmanship is unbelievable. Jimmy is my great grand uncle and love every time I go see him because your blown away every time you go there. You will never see craftsmanship like it again.
They still are Jimmy Furey is My Grandmother's uncle and is still alive and well in Mount Plunkett. An absolute gentleman. He recently built a boat with a woman who wanted to be his apprentice.
I understand this is a quite old video....but that does not take away any of my admiration for persons like the boat builder....I'm a retired USCG (US Coast Guard).....and though I was born inland (in El Bierzo in the province of Leon in NW Spain), for over 20 yrs I was a boat coxswain doing search & rescue....law enforcement, fisheries, immigration.....love boats....
That was a joy to watch, start to finish, and so many interesting things to see going on in the foreground and background. Seeing the boat built, the way it was done and came together, the steaming and bending of wood Pete? used as fuel for the fire, the almost open fire inside sitting in the middle of that big open fireplace with a big hook stuck in the back wall to hang the pot or kettle off, the utensils around the fire which I presume were for cooking, the tools, oh the tools, a handmade brass curved plane for the mast, the clamps, the many different planes, it was all so simple, practical and worked so well.
What a wonderful craftsman all hand tools ,all the modern tools of to day and no one could build a boat like this, fiberglass moulds is all they have,, Men like Jimmy were hero's
What a beautiful documentary for the posterity of wooden boat building history. If just watching it is a masterpiece, I can imagine how would it feel when one builds one of it.
Como poder agradecer esta muestra de humildad, trabajo, inspiración, dedicación y sobre todo... arte. Un gran saludo desde Argentina, Dios bendiga sus manos y gracias por permitir compartir esto
How come this series of programs are not show on TV or one of the Satellite channels on Sky. Much better than some of the American boring ones they seem to show Discovery and History take notice.!
that was nice to see sad though thinking bout all the beautiful skills and trades that are being lost and or dying out the mordern youth dont have any intrest and a large majority are just clowns
