LaZer0MonKey OMG who was that girl doing the solve. 31 secs is a beginner time, they should have had a speed cuber to demonstrate a competition solve. I average 13-15 and my pb is sub 10 so I could have demo'd a quick solve without the need to cut the video. That noob girl could have done the demo for running or some beginner task.
MJBCuber i can solve around 40 sec. and my pb is 30.750 So can I compete for competition ? And does everyone gets a prize or only 1,2,3 place holder are awarded ? Plz rply
Whoever thought of this deserves a basket of muffins; the number of new competitors who don't even glance at the regulations before competing drives me nuts. One obviously shouldn't expect them to know every regulation right out of the gate, but it saves a lot of time when someone new already knows the rules.
I know, one time I was judging a new guy and he had no idea what he was doing, he used all his inspection time and then asked me "Can I start?" and I had to tell him that he just DNFed, i felt so horrible
Thanks for telling me how competitions work, I'm going to my first one in 3 weeks and I don't know how competitions work. So thanks for making a video about how they work😊👍🏻
This video is not meant to be the entire regs. Just the bare minimum of what you need to know. Extra scrambles don't need to be explained. But pops probably should have.
the thing that pisses me off is that new cubers tend not to wait in the competitor area, and it pisses me off. i scream their name and then i later walk down the competior area to look for that person. turns out they're in the spectator area.... is there any penalty for not being in competitor area? i usually ask the delegate when i need to run off to the toilet when i place my cube down on the scorecard to say that i won't be at the area until i've done my neccesity. great vid btw, the stopping timer reg really needs to be explained, people keep stopping the timer wrong.
I did that as a newbie and since learned not to! It was easy though to hear my name but I realized that it was a risk if I somehow didn't hear their name
Cugru Cubing i interpreted as if that when the competitor sits down, then the 1 minute starts of just chilling out getting ready (but it does say at the 'discretion of the judge')
I’m up at 5 AM panicking because I’m afraid I’m gonna screw up an Alg trying to drill it Edit; that was back in late June-July 2019 Now it’s 2020 and I’m getting ready to go to Salem mass cuz I’m going to cubing with the Viking 2020 and I’m competing in 3x3 4x4 and 5x5 I love cubing
My sun is participating in next dubai compilation, we are struggling to know if the GAN timer and standard gan mat are acceptable. Also is gan cubes accepted?
Thanks it Really helped. Im going to my first competition in two weeks and my events are 2x2, 3x3x3 and Pyraminx. I was really worried because I didn't now what to do but this helped me! Thank!
I have some questions 1: Do I have to bring my own stackmat? 2: Is it back to back solves? 3: IS it the same scrambles for each competitor? 4: How many events can I sign up for?
If anyone is wondering about pops: Article 5: Puzzle Defects 5a) Examples of puzzle defects include: popped parts, pieces twisted in place, and detached screws/caps/stickers. 5b) If a puzzle defect occurs during an attempt, the competitor may choose to either repair the defect and continue the attempt, or to stop the attempt. 5b1) If a competitor chooses to repair the puzzle, they must repair only the defective parts. Tools and/or parts of other puzzles must not be used to repair the original puzzle. Penalty: disqualification of the attempt (DNF). 5b2) Any repair to a puzzle must not give the competitor any advantage in solving the puzzle. Penalty: disqualification of the attempt (DNF). 5b3) Permitted repairs: 5b3a) If any parts have fallen out or moved out of place, the competitor may place them back. 5b3b) If, after repairing the puzzle but before the end of the attempt, the competitor finds that the puzzle is unsolvable, they may disassemble and reassemble a maximum of 4 pieces to make the puzzle solvable. 5b3c) If the puzzle is unsolvable, and can be made solvable by rotating a single corner piece, the competitor may correct the corner piece by twisting it in place without disassembling the puzzle. 5b4) During a blindfolded phase (see Regulation B4), all repairs must be performed blindfolded. Penalty: disqualification of the attempt (DNF). 5b5) If at the end of the attempt some parts of the puzzle are physically detached or not fully placed, the following regulations apply: 5b5a) If one or more parts without colored faces is affected, the puzzle is considered solved. 5b5b) If one part with one colored face is affected, the puzzle is considered solved. 5b5c) If more than one part with one colored face is affected, the puzzle is considered unsolved (DNF). 5b5d) If one or more parts with more than one colored face is affected, the puzzle is considered unsolved (DNF). 5b5e) Regulations 5b5c and 5b5d supersede 5b5a and 5b5b. Wait, if i am scrambling and i do a D' and not a D (for example) what happens? What if it made the solve easier, didnt change much or harder? And if we see/ I remember only after he finished solving does he get another chance? What if he did an amazingly good solve or insanely bad?
Good one! Mind to use this video as I want to share to the competitors for my competition ? So that the first-timer will understand and know briefly how WCA competition works.. tq
Johnathon Malnar If they say lunch is provided, it probably means lunch is provided as part of your entry fee, but if you are uncertain just ask the delegate to be sure.
if it was already twisted from you accidentally twisting it during the solve you can twist it back, and if it was twisted from the scrambler then you're allowed to get a resolve. However, if a judge sees you deliberately twisting corners to improve your solve then that'll be a DNF.
There are cutoffs & time limits though. If you don’t make the time limit, you get a DNF & you have to stop the solve. Because of that, you should also use a stopwatch for your own purpose so that you can stop it & then continue the solve after, or just look at the time on the timer. For the cutoff, you have to make it to continue your average. If you don’t make the cutoff in the second solve of the average, you get cutoff from finishing the average. You can still obviously do that event, but you’ll just DNF. It says the cutoffs & time limits in the events section for each competition.
You don't have to be good to go to a comp. I went to my first comp when I averaged 27 on 3x3 and had a blast. You can record your solves with a camera next to the stackmat, I do it all the time and no-one has ever told me to stop. Just don't have the screen facing you, that's not allowed, it's considered an extra advantage because you can see your cube from another angle
1) You dont have to be good. But you have to solve it within 10 mins 2) Yes you can use a camera close up to the stack matt andfar away. Most famous people do it.
for example, i want to be bring a friend with me in a competition. do we have to pay for any kind of entrance ticket even though that person is just gonna watch but not competing?
Something I couldn't find in the regulations: I don't actually own a standard blindfold, I usually have a makeshift blindfold in the form of a scarf tied on my head, but I get the feeling that won't be okay for the competition. Do I need to go buy my own before the comp?
Oh, that comment was a while ago. I ended up looking for a blindfold at a couple shops and I couldnt find one, but when I went to the comp I asked and they were fine with me using the scarf.
Great Video! what did you use for the graphics? After Effects?
LaZer0MonKey Yup! I got the lower third (the blue container) from videoblocks and then created the spinning WCA logo in After Effects.
cyotheking awesome! i didn't realize video blocks had graphics!
LaZer0MonKey OMG who was that girl doing the solve. 31 secs is a beginner time, they should have had a speed cuber to demonstrate a competition solve. CaraBrimleyRules stop bragging. All speeds are welcome in the WCA

+Deb Banerji So I'm one of the few people who has looked at the regulations before watching this video and hasn't been to a comp yet?
+BRCuber nope same here
BRCuber you're not alone
Deb Banerji my first comp is in 2 days
I know, one time I was judging a new guy and he had no idea what he was doing, he used all his inspection time and then asked me "Can I start?" and I had to tell him that he just DNFed, i felt so horrible
jesus christ, the best video i have ever seen about this
I agree
Thanks for telling me how competitions work, I'm going to my first one in 3 weeks and I don't know how competitions work. So thanks for making a video about how they work😊👍🏻
You didn't go over extra scrambles or pops or anything...
This video is not meant to be the entire regs. Just the bare minimum of what you need to know. Extra scrambles don't need to be explained.
But pops probably should have.
cyotheking *is not
Old McDonald Woops. Thanks for the correction!
cyotheking You're welcome.
Old McDonald You're* :)
Wow! That video was so clean and to the point. Great work! I'd love to see more of these kinds of videos in the future!
Colorful pockets doesnt follow the rules he should watch this
He does those as jokes
A silly kid Looms do you not get his joke?
Vilhelmas NVM I know because I wasn't a cuber back then now I know now.
FatimaCybox123z Then why would you watch cubing videos?
Nabranes TwistyPuzzler why not
Thanks for this video it is my FIRST competition in 47 days! This helped a lot!
@DxsIsCool nice necropost by 6 YEARS
Thx, now I feel confident about going to competitions!
same

pyr14 If you don't show up a minute after being called you can be DNFed (someone correct me if that is the wrong interpretation of the regs)
Cugru Cubing i interpreted as if that when the competitor sits down, then the 1 minute starts of just chilling out getting ready (but it does say at the 'discretion of the judge')
Cugru Cubing It wouldn't be DNF, it would be DNS (Did Not Start)
ahh yeah that's right
ZOMG SECOND?!
Holy shit chris you're on fire
You can use sticker less puzzles now right?
Aryel Carreon Correct!
cyotheking ok, thank you and keep up the good work!
Rhys Campbell why? What does Zomg second mean?
Great video, and extremely detailed. I'll be sure to send this out to first-time competitors at the competitions I'm organizing.
I just finished the video and already forgot everything, i'm screwed
First
cyotheking cheater
Second
What If We Doesn't Have Team/Group.....What If We Single???.....
+cyotheking what if we don't have a group
that was so lol he moved his him in the first clip xD
Thank you for this. I have my first competition today and this really cleared up some of my questions.
I've never been to a comp before, and I thought I got all I needed to know from random videos, but the beginning was surprisingly helpful.
Last year i went to my first comp i saw hashtag cuber and chris! It was amazing. I missed collin birns because my parents didnt wanna stay long
Am i allowed to do some algs on another cube (warm up) in the waiting area while my cube is being scrambled?
TNL Cubing yes
oo
Very nicely made and editted as always.
Thank you for the tutorial. I'm going to the Hayward rubik's rumble this year
BDOG how did it go?
I’m up at 5 AM panicking because I’m afraid I’m gonna screw up an Alg trying to drill it
Edit; that was back in late June-July 2019
Now it’s 2020 and I’m getting ready to go to Salem mass cuz I’m going to cubing with the Viking 2020 and I’m competing in 3x3 4x4 and 5x5
I love cubing
Hobbs Windrod it may be cancelled xos of covid-19
NeverStopQuestioning naw, when I edited my original comment it was 6 AM and the comp started 2 hours later
I didn’t do that good but
Thank you for making this video, Chris. This will definitely help new competitors know how the competitions work and help them adjust. :)
Does beginners method is okay in WCA
Method does not matter
they dont care you can be have a 2min time and thats fine theres a time u need to get or it will be a dnf
How can you just go to one event
I’m nowhere near being good enough to compete, but I really liked the video.
can you have friends who aren't competing in the competitor waiting area just to talk and stuff?
Not in the waiting area
Yes you can bring friends, and they dont pay for anything
hello, a lot of people told me that it is forbidden to use a stickerless cube in a competition and I would like to ask if that is true.
That is not true anymore. You can use a stickerless cube in WCA competitions now.
Just got the email about my comp next week. I’m excited
I know that was the best feeling ever
Can you bring earbuds to listen to music?
When you're solving the cube, it's not allowed.
@@Blith8690 ok......
Thanks, I was wondering (even though there will probably be no competitions in my area any time soon) I’m a fairly new cuber
Been to 9 comps and still watching this before each comp
Havent been to a comp in over 2 years 😭
I went to my first competition south west Georgia solvers 2023 lucky I saw this video the night before coming
Great video and now i'am going to my first cubing comp
My sun is participating in next dubai compilation, we are struggling to know if the GAN timer and standard gan mat are acceptable.
Also is gan cubes accepted?
but wat if i dont know how to solve cube then how do i put at drop off table?!
Then why even go?
+DireSheep Then that's a DNF, against A1c
I think he means running, in which case you just ask a delegate and he'll probably let you do the running
Zentai Design no he means if you don't know how to solve a cube and you go up to the scrambling table with a scrambled cube
you automatically win event
is the cube allowed to touch the timer if it is sitting on the mat before you start the solve?
Oh wait.... That is Kit Clement from the Layer By Layer podcast! That's cool!
How do we buy those jackets with our last names on them?
Is 180 Degrees new? Was it DNF prior to the new rules?
XESCoolX It's always been a +2 but often times new people think it's a DNF
+Cubing Ninja u could have told the judge.
+Cubing Ninja it is but if the judge don't know that then you have yo say that and if they don't belive you then you have to say that to the delegate
***** No! you have to find him! tell him of his wrong doings! Force him to find the WCA Delegate and change the time!!!
Xcuber13 Or just take out your phone & how them the rules like what you do with non-cubers when you show them a solve & there’s a corner twist.
are the mat timer and cube cover provided
THIS WAS SO AMAZING!!
THANK YOU!!
Hey thanks for uploading this video. I'm going to Australia nationals 2016 and it will be my first competition
3x3 in 1.2 seconds, get rekt
+2
+6
He didnt call out the wr!!!!!!!!! Lol
muhammad ridhwan he didn't fail the highfive
+12
Thanks it Really helped. Im going to my first competition in two weeks and my events are 2x2, 3x3x3 and Pyraminx. I was really worried because I didn't now what to do but this helped me! Thank!
"Up to 5 times" at my first comp i got called around 8 times because the judges didn't turn on timer or reset them...
N I C E E X P E R I E N C E
Do I need to bring a stackmat / timer?
I have some questions
1: Do I have to bring my own stackmat?
2: Is it back to back solves?
3: IS it the same scrambles for each competitor?
4: How many events can I sign up for?
1. No, you don't.
2. Solves alternate between people on the group. It's like A-B-C-A-B-C.
3. No.
4. As many as you want.
Zoats It is the same scrambles for each competitor
wait so you need to bring 5 cubes?
no? they use ur same cube
Who made the subtitles??? They are weird! XD
What are all the WCA cubes?
The Skewbicle Us the WCA puzzles are 2x2-7x7 pyraminx megaminx skewb square one clock 3x3 bld 3x3 oh 4x4 bld 5x5 bld 3x3 with feet
Thank you
Wait, do you only do 5 solves for every event?
For each round, yes. Its the average.
Sebastian Amstrup Skogstad
No, some events like 6x6, 7x7, 3BLD etc do not have 5 solves for a round, but only a mean of 3 as they take time.

What do you mean grops or heats?
thx but i have one question. is it h perm allowed?
Do we put our own cube at table Oh also are we allowed to use magnetic cubes? Appreciate if u reply!
yes
Because of this video I can now solve my WCA Competitor. Thanks!
What is with the messed up color scheme
When your ready to do another solve, do they take your cube again and then scramble it or do you have to bring multiple cubes
They take your cube again
how can you tell what group you're in?
At the competition I went to they had a list on a clipboard and paper so you could write them down
can my dad ( he's not competing ) sit in the compeditor area ? ( i'm 10 years old )
no
Do you get those cubing uniforms in all competitions and things like that or do you have to buy them?
In Australia where do you buy a cube and stack mat timer. What brands are allowed?
Will a corner twist result in a +2?
DNF
uh a dnf obviously its cheating
pls tell me this do i have to bring my own cube
Yes
if ai go to a competition do i have to play all the events or i can pick some events
you can sign up for any amount of events, as long as they're on the events list
Is small cubes are allowed?
How do you know what group you are in?
Bro I just started speedcubing a month ago and have a 3x3 average of 28 seconds. I only know how to solve a 3x3 tho so uh. RIP
U could do 2x2
What, why are you so fast on learning, did you learn CFOP or just Beginners Method?
Wow. Its been about a month and i average a minute and a half. I do know how to solve 2x2 megaminx pyraminx and most of am learning square 1.
In a month I got 50 sec
Dude that's so fast for a month
My first comp was yesterday and I got a dnf for the round and had to redo the round because my camera was facing me 😰
Is there any age wise seperate competition
Wait, if i am scrambling and i do a D' and not a D (for example) what happens? What if it made the solve easier, didnt change much or harder? And if we see/ I remember only after he finished solving does he get another chance? What if he did an amazingly good solve or insanely bad?

What happens about corner twists
Good one! Mind to use this video as I want to share to the competitors for my competition ? So that the first-timer will understand and know briefly how WCA competition works.. tq
What does it mean when there is a mystery event?
Do you need a logo on your cube to compete
If it is a competition that has lunch do you bring your own lunch or will they have lunch there that you have to pay extra for or is free?
Johnathon Malnar If they say lunch is provided, it probably means lunch is provided as part of your entry fee, but if you are uncertain just ask the delegate to be sure.
Which Dixon was this filmed in
I am going to Arcadia Summer on June 22 (i think) so this is helpful
are there any differences for the one-handed Rubiks cube because I need to know by the 12th of January.
Just wondering, what was the cube that was used?
Are u allowed to go to a 2 day comp for 1 day?
Are modded puzzles allowed in competitions?
Yes
Can you corner twist on purpose?
no, if your corner twists though you can fix it
Azap Playz yes but you don’t need to
if it was already twisted from you accidentally twisting it during the solve you can twist it back, and if it was twisted from the scrambler then you're allowed to get a resolve. However, if a judge sees you deliberately twisting corners to improve your solve then that'll be a DNF.
why would u even ask that obviously no its cheating

This video has been seen by almost every 2017-present WCA competitor lol
Fo you need to practice OH and other categories than 3x3 to participate?
CadenGamer121 thanks 👍
Isn’t he the one in the speedcubers documentary 😅
What cube is she using?
are the runners and scramblers random people or specific people that you pick to come with you to do that stuff
They are random people, volunteers. Just like judges.
Going to my first competition tomorrow- this helped a lot!
Where did you find a competition???
This video will hopefully help for when I go to my first compition!
Can I use carbon fiber at comps
What about penalties in pyraminx?
How to join WCA competition ???
I have not been to a competition yet, but I do plan on so this video was very helpful for me!
i just want to know did i need to bring own cube or not
