Kayla, for the skinny window above the bed you could put a floating shelf directly under it to place some pretty plants and small art and knick knacks on it, or you could put pretty wallpaper above the bed, they have less permanent solutions like peel and stick wallpaper if you want to go that path, that’s just a few ideas
A floating shelf is a fantastic idea if you keep it as a decorative shelf, i had a more utilitary one and my book once fell on my face almost breaking my glasses
You should definitely use cc for these design videos! Everyone wants to see you use your favorite cc more, and ALL Harrie and Felixandre cc has that wood color you can’t find in the Sims.
Peacemaker has some great colors for walls too. He has this amazing Teal color I love to use and its not offensive at all. Cant wait to see what you pick.
My idea is a floating shelf of frames and such above the bed/below the window. Make it the same length as the window. Depending on how high the actual headboard is. If it's a low platform that would probably work.
Kayla, I think it's a good idea to put curtains instead, otherwise, you are blocking the light. I live in a flat, and the first day I get in, I was in love with the light it has! It's a must for me to have a lot of light, so If I were you, I would put on the curtains and remove the shutters.
I had thin useless windows next to my bed years ago, no curtain would have ever worked. Our solution was to use a wall decal in a nice leafy print on the glass itself. It ended up looking like narrow paintings framed on either side of the bed. It also had an added bonus of giving off a coloured dappled light effect during the day. Maybe have a look at wall stickers, or peel and remove wallpaper.
Love hearing about the house! Also, remember that if you have a shorter headboard that you lean against, your head will rest on the wall not the headboard, so if you have art or a mirror or anything up there, it could get annoying (from experience). If you have enough space above where your head would be, I’d go for a long skinny art piece (or like 3 small pieces you can tile) or a thin, decorative mirror.
A long narrow shelf with plants and small artwork on it. Sheers with blackout curtains are a must. A cozy rug to bring all of the colors together. You can do this. Just add one piece that you really love and build from there.
For the window over the bed. Hang curtains and make them be your art. They’ll cover the windows, make it look like you have larger window than you do, (which will balance the room), and make an excellent art piece without needing a huge headboard.
I love this lil irl simsie content! My idea would be some sort of hanging plant situation considering you don't have a lot of available floor space - either real or fake. It could be some hanging vines/string of pearls attached to the bottom of the shutters, hanging just far enough down to fill up the empty space a bit more. Something I made in my friends apartment (similar issue to yours, but we moved her bed) was a sturdy curtain rod attached over and above the shutters, and then small plants in pots with macrame hangers dangling them at different lengths. If you're not keen on the idea of something that heavy over your head, you could always get the same look with fake plants/air plants in clear plastic terrariums - minimal, little pops of greenery, and less stress that the whole thing collapses in the middle of the night. Best of luck!
Maybe a shelf under the window with some more plants? Idk how worried you'd be about hitting your head under it, depends on the height with the mattress and bedframe
This is so great and talking outloud helps. My wisdom for above the bed would be a cork board over the window so you can string fairy lights and photo goodies. The yellow and green would be so calming
I would suggest a "picture-frame shelf" above the bed where medium to small size framed art could stand, that way you can have a variety of art that doesn't have to be very big on it. I have a shelf like that that I got from IKEA that has 3 medium sized framed posters on it that I love (the shelves are like 2 inches deep with a lip on it to keep the frames in place)
I have the exact same shelves, I have a long one and 2 shorter ones, only problem is I forget they are there and so do my friends, who have hit their heads even more than me
@@rachelcookie321 You put it on the wall high enough not to bang your head on. Plus if it only sticks out by 2" then the thickness of a padded headboard like Kayla wants would be enough to mean she'd have to lean back at a very weird angle above the headboard to bang her head.
Honestly I’d be tempted to cover up the over bed window somehow - no one is ever going to be bothered to open the shutters, so it’s just going to be closed shutters all the time 🤷🏻♀️ (and I definitely want to see the irl house stuff!)
I love these, but I do this, too. When my husband and I were talking about building our house I designed the whole thing in The Sims and showed him what I wanted. It made it so much easier to discuss things when we could both see what I was picturing and then he could make suggestions.
Honestly, seeing progress like this is on houses and other buildings is one of my favorite parts of watching random UA-camrs soooo.... I wouldn't say no to more content like this!
Here’s an idea: a large curtain covering the entire wall behind the bed, basically making it a feature wall. Really, it could just be thick fabric in a color you like from a crafts store. I’m envisioning a dark green, luxurious velvet. Then, you could hang art from the ceiling flush with the wall like a lot of art museums do. Love watching your journey renovating your house btw!!❤️
I love this! Honestly I’d probably do either a taller headboard to fill the wall space, or a long single shelf with smaller artwork on it. But I’m sure whatever you choose will look great!
I love the IRL house content, it is so fun for some reason 😂 also, the swatches you picked for the floor and kitchen cabinets are GORGEOUS and I love them
So cute! What about a subtle patterned wallpaper on the headboard wall so that there’s something pretty on that wall but it doesn’t have to be displaced by the window?
Check out some of the new Mr. Kate peel and sticks for this! Its easy to put up and take down if you're not feeling it and most are subtle enough that you could still put art on the wall too.
For under the window: Shelf, decor items and little plants!🌿But for this to work you'll have to make sure nothing can actually fall ❤ Also, an accent dark wall instead of all the walls🖤
I love to see the IRL house stuff! It's interesting to see you renovate a real house, your own house, especially because you are used of doing this in the Sims.
an idea for filling in the space behind your bed while still having art there: mural. get an artist/artist friend to paint something pretty on the wall! therefore, no need to stress out finding a way to hang up a painting
Maybe, on the little window(s) above the bed, keep the shutters closed, place a shelf directly underneath it, and then just put decor on the shelf. With the shutters closed, it will kind of just look like decor in front of a blank canvas. I just think this might work better than trying to hang an art piece above the bed, but under the window. 🤷🏼♀️
Maybe get a bed that is a little bit taller but has storage like drawers underneath so that the bed would fill in the space under the small window and will maximize the space giving you extra storage like for blankets or even shoe storage
It would be cool to have hanging lights above the night stands or like sconce lights! I agree, a slightly taller headboard would be nice to fill in the space. I love the irl house plans!
I personally really like the little window and I think its the perfect spot for some fairy lights or garland to fill up the space above the bed and make it look pretty :) maybe faux leaves or mounted plants underneath it with white geometric mounts to match the white window and make it look like it has a purpose rather than try to hide it
I absolutely love these house videos! For over the bed if you don't want a taller bed I'm thinking some kind of wall art, like not a painting or print that has super defined edges but some sculpture or something that will take up the space without drawing attention to the weird shape! It could even be something with a built in light if you're looking for more lighting like that!
Was anyone else sad that the Sims didn't put the historic love bed with the wedding stuff pack? Or even include it for the base game with the update? Would have been the perfect timing to bring it back 😮💨
Ikr but its as to be expected the sims can’t do anything right and they don’t care I completed the survey about the new pack yesterday i left a long 5 paragraph message.
Build challenge for Simsie: Build a traditional house from a specific country in the world (for example, a traditional German or Japanese house) I think that could be fun!
I have an odd window above my bed too and I haven’t added anything else. I think it’s nice because it feels super minimal and peaceful to look at. I think that prints above the nightstands is the best approach :)
I love watching videos like this. It's cool that the Sims can help with the layout of furniture in your house. I draw things out on gridded paper when trying to figure out where things will go and what can fit.
Second the idea for floating shelf with frames/small art above the bed, sane length as the window. I also recently did a green accent wall in my bedroom behind the bed in Behr “Mountain Pine” the name is deceiving, it’s a gorgeous color and has really changed up the room.
I love this type of video! Always always down for more IRL content. My husband and I moved a year ago and I'm still furnishing our new "forever" house. It takes time to find the perfect pieces, and you don't want to rush it when you're dealing with big ticket items that cost thousands of dollars and that you'll likely have for years... Your struggle is totally relatable on that front. And I agree with other comments that you could try an accent wall color or wallpaper on the wall behind the headboard. Good luck and have fun decorating! :)
My opinion as someone who loves interior design: no to the art above the bed. Yes to the small art on the wall next to the tv. You could buy cute vases (I see a lot of quirky/funny ones that aren’t childish but add more character) or lamps that are a little on the tall side for the night stands if you want to fill in the space. And you could add some extra color in that way too. And add dry or regular flowers to the vases if you like. And this way you can always swap them if you want another color for the room, without having to repaint the walls ☺️
For the window over the bed:I would put floating shelves between the headboard and the window. You can decorate with books, a plant, a vase or sculpture piece. Now you have some visual interest without overpowering the window or headboard :)
Suggestion: a simple streamlined shelf right under the window and then you can add some decor on it, and the small window will sort of frame the decorations
Long skinny art next to the thermostat can fill that awkward wall space perfectly, even little staggered, floating shelves. As for the window over the bed, curtains that mirror what you did for the large grouping of windows can frame out the bed nicely, or a taller headboard that fills the space. You can even put a long, skinny floating shelf right under the window, add plants or decor, and have your lower bed and headboard. I’m in the process of buying a house with my husband as well, and I’ve been living on Pinterest. It also helps that I’m a merchandiser and can play with the decor pieces where I work. Whatever you decide, you’ll have fun playing around with all the options.
I can’t wait to see the finished house! As for the bed I got nothing lol I have a taller headboard and a small gap between it and the window. My cats like to perch on the top of the headboard and look out the window 😂
I love seeing this type of content!!! For things above the bed - you could try a long, narrow painting (search skyline, and similar things will come up), or a set of three individual canvases that hang in a line to make one art piece. It’s definitely not for everyone, but you could look into different tapestries! That could drape over the windows, making the room darker as well as providing an art piece!!
I'm moving as well, and this is just fun to listen to because I've been exploring Pinterest like a maniac for my new apartment. I think if I had that odd window above my bed I'd make a bit of a cat highway shelf so my cat could sleep above the bed (She does it now with our headboard that's a brimnes ikea bed).
Aw that sounds like the cutest kind of room! I hope in my future room I’ll be able to create a sort of walk-in dressing, with beautiful shelving as well so maybe some could be used by a future cat if I can adopt one at some point
@@flw1522 That sounds like an amazing idea! We have some limited cat shelves right now in my rental, but we want more in our new apartment! Our cat is absolutely someone that loves to perch, she wants to be on all our high furniture, but she's awful at climbing and jumping! 😂
Just a thought, could you take the small skinny window out of the wall and cover it with drywall? then you don't have to deal with the dilema of what to put between the bed and window
A storage bench or cedar chest at the foot of the bed would look so nice and be so practical! As for above the bed, a narrow art/display ledge would be perfect! You could switch out the art pieces and display objects whenever you want
Hi, ☺️ I have a suggestion for the bedroom. Since there isn’t really space for art, instead beautiful art wallpaper! Possibly a dark wallpaper that brings in dark greens and plants. I love a good floral wallpaper as well.
I care so much about the IRL stuff! I love seeing this sort of thing and hearing people talk through ideas! It's why I love watching sims builds! So this is kind of dream content for me! 😌
What about a floating shelf with small plants above the bed and under that window? Maybe use museum putty to help keep the plants in place. Just an idea :)
I love the house content! I did the same thing the last time I moved. I had like 10 different versions of the living room and how we could arrange the furniture based on the shape (and if it was larger/smaller than the sims). For above the bed, you could do some small corresponding art in a line under the window. Like those paintings where there are 4 different options but they all go together with the same color scheme. If you get something with the right size it could work nicely. I've also got the somewhat matching artwork above the nightstands in my own bedroom and it works really well.
ideas for above the bed: hanging lights, matching artwork, maybe like a tapestry type thing and maybe like you were saying, a big piece to fit over the window up there. :D
Continue IRL house stuff, please. Also, someone mentioned a floating shelf with frames-you did a CC video recently with something like this. That would work great above a shorter headboard and below that window.
Yes, yes to all! I am a nosy so and so and I love watching house renovation content! For above the bed instead of one big bit of art you could create a little gallery wall with lots of little bits. Small prints, plaques, photos ect. That could be fun and fill the space without looking too big and if you keep the colour scheme consistent it won't look too fussy.
I love love these videos! It would be so cool to have a complete playlist once the whole house is complete so we can see the full transformation! So exciting, I also definitely use the Sims to imagine how I'll set up a new space.
i think that the little window above your bed would look adorable with a shelf right underneath it and some small plants and pictures up there. you could open the shudders during the day so that the little plants would get light!
I would love to see more videos of your irl home updates. I personally really love seeing transformations of homes and seeing peoples versions of decor and interior designs. Love your videos!
Kayla, I hope you see this👍🏻I think you should paint your irl bedroom wall with the long slender windows (above the bed) a dark color of your choice or even go with a colorful wallpaper, just that wall though! I think it will make your bed pop and provide visual symmetry to the wall of windows next to it. Plus it will act as it’s own visual interest since you probably don’t want to add art over the bed that will compete with the long window! Just a thought…it’s gonna be beautiful no matter what you choose🥰
I love this series! I genuinely cannot get enough of it! Please show the irl rooms when they are done! Also in general I think it would be really cool if you did more of these styled room builds for the gallery
Okay, hear me out. A tapestry over the window on the wall behind the bed. That way if you need to use the window you can just roll up the tapestry but also have art. Or if you paint, paint the window the same color. It will help it blend in so that it’s not as noticeable
This is so exciting! Here are some ideas from me 😄 You can put a thin shelf between the bed and the window with mini decorations like a small plant or a cute clock (or your cottoneesocks cowplant). You could also place a hanging wall decoration like something made with string/twine or that has a banner-like or vine shape (or use an actual artificial vine, those are nice too). There are also room vinyl decorations you can use to make a pattern in the wall in any shape you want, so that could be a more subtle way of placing art without making it seem too much with a full painting or frame (and it also makes it into a bit of a feature wall!)
I think I would hang a Big tapestry over the over-the-bed-window, that covered the whole wall. Get a soft texture and almost make it like a feature wall.
I love seeing your IRL videos and designing your bedroom kitchen etc. I make IRL life houses in the sims a lot for fun, so I enjoy seeing your content on it. Plus getting to know your personal style. It's nice. So I say keep it up!
If it was me, I would place the bed right when you walk in on the left side, and where the weird window it I would set up a nice desk area, vanity or some nice shelves, I like having a lot of walking space in the middle because I feel like it makes the room feel bigger + the light from the left would fall on it nicely. If you do want the bed by the window I would just try to find a higher bed frame, and not add long curtains. honestly I quite like the windows, I think it would look better if it matched the wall colour so it doesnt stick out too much, and the bed would also take the attention away from it.
paint the walls the darker color you want, but leave the shutters and trim white above the bed - with a smidge taller headboard, the outside view can be your art! love the house stuff, it's so fun!
Hey Kayla! Happy Sunday! I am not demanding it, but I would LOVE to see a house tour of your current house before you move out! I understand if you don’t want to, and I won’t be disappointed if you don’t! Love you! Also, LOVE the bedroom layout and the furniture you picked!
i think the taller headboard is the way to go without the room feeling too busy with so many prints/pieces of art (for me anyways!) love these inspo videos!
@@tallulahbrown5864 I don’t set an alarm because I’m busy in the afternoons because of school sometimes I’ll be in class watching the timer and I’ll stop listening to watch a Simsie video.
IDEA: this is just a suggestion, but I would say, take out both closet doors and replace it with a curtain or something like that. It would make the room feel a little bit more open. Good luck 💙
Yes, please keep making irl content like this! Also, you could put a long, skinny piece of art above your bed under the window. Or you could use a patterned wallpaper and make that an accent wall so it doesn't feel empty.

Definitely interested in irl house stuff too! I love watching people renovating their houses and such so I enjoy watching this kind of stuff!
Kayla I love watching this kind of stuff, people rambling about their real life is so entertaining to me for some reason
I got really excited when she talked about the updated house tour. I love the IRL house content!!
Cute fairy lights above the bed!! Love the idea of art above the nightstands and am always happy to see irl stuff! 😊
Love this series!!!
I love love these videos! It would be so cool to have a complete playlist once the whole house is complete so we can see the full transformation! So exciting, I also definitely use the Sims to imagine how I'll set up a new space.
The house is gonna look amazing ☺️
i genuinely love these vids about your house and def def want to see irl stuff too. obvi it’s only what you’re comfortable with but i def want it
Idea for the tiny windows above the bed: Hanging some fairy lights right under the windows or a rope with printed pictures attached.
ehh I think that’s more teenager/college dorm vibes, Kayla’s almost 23 and married buying a house
@@mythics102 you’re never too old for fairy lights
i want to see as much irl house stuff as you're willing to make! it's super interesting to see your irl style vs your sims house style!
Me who’s decorating my new room irl: *takes notes*
i think that the little window above your bed would look adorable with a shelf right underneath it and some small plants and pictures up there. you could open the shudders during the day so that the little plants would get light!
I love this kind of content!! It’s so fun to bring the sims into real life
I would love to see more videos of your irl home updates.
Here are some ideas from me 😄
You can put a thin shelf between the bed and the window with mini decorations like a small plant or a cute clock (or your cottoneesocks cowplant).
It's nice. So I say keep it up!
hi! love the house content. btw i was on ur twitch this morning, goldelbows, so excited to participate more
Paint an acent Wall also Kayla i loveee the “planning My irl Room in the sims” type of vid! So please do more of Them:)
I can't wait to see this design!
I love the look of tall headboards under those types of windows above the bed! Also, please keep doing these videos! I love them!
I also did this with my bedroom that is currently being built
i love the irl house stuff tbh so interesting to hear about your irl decoration taste
I know Kayla’s house is going to look better than mine she has better taste then me.
Same
@@tallulahbrown5864 wow you’re fast 😂
@@yuhhbiscuit I have an alarm set so I can watch it immediately 😂😂😂
How? YOU ARE EVERYWHERE!
@@tallulahbrown5864 I don’t set an alarm because I’m busy in the afternoons because of school sometimes I’ll be in class watching the timer and I’ll stop listening to watch a Simsie video.
I love seeing and hearing about your house stuff so I'd be happy to see more of stuff like this if you're comfortable with sharing!
IDEA: this is just a suggestion, but I would say, take out both closet doors and replace it with a curtain or something like that. It would make the room feel a little bit more open. Good luck 💙
if you wanted art above the bed you could definitely find a decorative hanging that could be used or sold as a curtain! would still look really cool
Hiii
You have the first comment🥳🥳🥳🎉🎉
@@emilyveldsema5424 no lol?
Yes, please keep making irl content like this! Also, you could put a long, skinny piece of art above your bed under the window. Or you could use a patterned wallpaper and make that an accent wall so it doesn't feel empty.
