He doesn't want it for himself to rule. He wants his people to have basic human rights and freedoms, just as we all do/would in that situation.

Is Buddhism a faith based religion or science based religion? Scientifically oriented Buddhism cannot distinguish morality and immorality , good or bad. If it is faith based religion, it is same as other religions in the world. High supernatural power up in the air guide you, lead u and support provided you have faith in Him, which is a belief of same strength faith by atheist people; belief of non existence of God, etc. etc but it is "me" who control life.

@Mr4thGeorge the dalai lama and hitler are 'EXACTLY' the same. The dalai lama teaching compassion, didn't hitler do the same thing? NO! Im sorry but comparing the two is stupid. The dalai lama isn't perfect, but he wouldn't be as loved by his own people if he used to run a hitler style regime, or even if he massacred his own people. And also if you didn't no about Buddhism, if they were monsters, they couldn't have been reincarnated as humans, but instead would take lower rebirth (karma)

'what distinguises philanthropists from other people that don't do that?' - philanthropists are more prone to virtue signalling
