  • Hey guys! In this week's video we share a brief stay at a pretty picturesque spot in the San Juan National Forest, about 40 minutes north of Durango, Colorado. This is wild camping with a 14-day stay limit and Leave No Trace principles in effect.
    There are nearby hiking trails, lakes, and the lovely Cascade Creek. This spot is a bit buggy so be aware of that!
    This area is close to all kinds of things to do in Durango to the south and Silverton to the north (more of that next week!)
    GPS, photos, reviews and more of this site can be found at www.campendium...

    So wonderful to see you back on the road in nature 🌲 🌳
    So picturesque with the mountains, water and trees. Were those aspens mixed in with their leaves fluttering in the breeze?
    Missed seeing Paco and Pepper .... love them 💕 My cat Boo is VERY frightened of the thunder as well. ⚡
    Loved the family portrait pics with the pups 👍
    Can't wait for next week's episode with rushing water and moose (or elk?).

      Yes! So many Aspen trees in this area. I bet it's magical in the fall. These poor sweet animals and the thunder!! We had so much of it, but I think it's actually monsoon season here. Thanks Christine!

      @@WanderlandTravelers We actually had no reservations. We learned you look for campsites between 11am-1pm. Silverhammer is the best. However if you can't find a place you like or they are all full, there is an overflow "parking lot" near Lake Louise. Happy Travels

      Yeah... on my way to Texas on I-40 the aluminum frame under the slideout broke rendering the slideout useless. There’s also quite a bit of delamination on the sidewalls. The thin luan plywood just let’s go if moisture is introduced. (As you know). Your restoration/repair project turned out great!

    If anyone deserves some kickback time it's you guys after all the work you've put into the trailer. Kudos for the hard work and great results. We got back from a 3 week trip to Colorado about 2 weeks ago. We moved around a lot and found the fly and mosquito presence everywhere we went, some areas worse than others. Glad to see you back on the road ..... don't it feel good !!

    • @WanderlandTravelers
      @WanderlandTravelers  5 років тому

      Feels so good! 😃 Sorry you had the bugs too, such a pain! At least at this spot it was mostly ok during the day. Colorado is just so beautiful, where were some highlights from your trip?

    • @TravelswithYoly
      @TravelswithYoly 5 років тому

      @@WanderlandTravelers As this was the maiden voyage for our new truck camper, the big highlight is that everything still works perfectly now that we're back (4,720 miles) ! The main take away from the journey is not to explore Colorado in July and August :-) This was also our first trip (of many) that had nearly a completely wide open schedule with no reservations or commitments. We focused on National Forest campgrounds and dispersed camping. Just about ready to start editing the videos for that journey :-)

    Enjoy your videos. I am also kicking back in Colorado Boondocking over by Salida. I was hoping you would tell us how you enjoy your new trailer, after all the rain was there any leaks, are you all settled in and do you like a trailer better than your RV? Do you know the time and effort you put into fixing it up and wondered if you feel that it was worth it now that you were on the road again.

    • @WanderlandTravelers
      @WanderlandTravelers  5 років тому +2

      Great questions ❤ next week's footage has all ready been filmed but we can try to answer these in the following video. The short answer is that we feel pretty well settled and are so happy with the trailer. Definitely trickier to back up and level than the motorhome but we'll get better with time. I wish we hadn't had to go through all that work, but in the end, I think it was worth it!

    It's so great to see you in Colorado! I love that area in the San Juans, looking forward to the next one. Potato Lake, one I need to go experience, though I've been all throughout that area, I would like to go back for the fall colors.
    My cabin near Estes Park is at 9200 ft, the mosquitos have not been a problem, the biting flies a different story. They are brutal. Lol. Last week I saw four adult moose, can't wait to see your footage of them.
    Love to have you experience the beauty around here too, but I know you guys are pretty scheduled.
    The lightening storm here last night was epic, I've never experienced such electricity. We seem to be getting a lot of that here this summer.
    So good to see you guys boondocking again, your smiles says it all. Thank you again for another great video.
    There's some natural hot spring pools near Telluride, hope you get a chance to enjoy them. 😊

    • @WanderlandTravelers
      @WanderlandTravelers  5 років тому +1

      Sadly we didn't get over to Telluride but it gives us a fantastic excuse to go back to the area, especially for hot springs too! Fall in Colorado is so gorgeous -- we loved catching a bit of it last year. Biting flies sound awful but what an amazing area to have a cabin in! Thankfully we haven't encountered the flies but we've definitely gotten bit up by the skeeters. No lightening where we're at now but I love those. Definitely epic!

    Hey, do not expect the same performance out of your body at nine to ten thousand feet that you get at sea level! Do not expect the same performance out of your body when you have been focusing on RV reconstruction for several months instead of hiking at higher elevations! I love the Durango, Silverton, Ouray, etcetera area, but since my cardiac event, I have to be careful how much I expect out of my body. I am speaking from experience, not just theory! I knew better than to drive to Pikes Peak, therefor I rode the cog railway with my late wife. When we got over ten thousand feet elevation, I could feel that my heart was not liking this. When we got to the top at fourteen thousand, I didn't try to do any thing except sit at a table with her. She went and looked outside for a while but I just waited for the ride back down. When we got back down, my wife went and got the parking attendant with a golf cart to come get me. It was all humiliating but taught me not to venture that high again. Be glad you can still do strenuous hikes at ten thousand but don't push your body without working back up to it again!!

    • @WanderlandTravelers
      @WanderlandTravelers  5 років тому

      Wow, sounds like a bit of a scary experience but you handled it well and knew your limits. Luckily we had been at some elevation in Utah before arriving in Colorado so it wasn't quite as shocking as it could have been. Acclimating and knowing your limits are definitely important!!

    Our vet just gave us VetriScience Laboratories chews called Composure (www.amazon.com/VetriScience-Laboratories-Composure-Calming-Support) for our Chihuahua because she get nervious when we travel and gets car sick. It worked, so we gave it to our Pom because he barks for an hour when we first get on the road because he is nervious too and it worked for him too. You might want to give it a try for your pup.
