Atomstack Z Axis Adjuster Review - Precise Adjustment? Not So Much!

  • A quick review of the Atomstack Z-Axis Adjuster. I was hoping that it would be as nice and as functional as the adjuster I have from Ortur. However, they dropped the ball on the actual adjustment mechanism and I would not recommend anyone buy this until they do a redesign. Their website says "Precise focus adjustment by rotating the button All-metal construction, stable and precise". There is no precise adjustment in their current design. The body of the product is high quality but the adjustment screw and knob are cheap with a lot of play in the knob. You can turn the adjuster almost 1/4 turn without it making any height adjustment to the laser head.

The problem I had with it is it would offset the Y axis limit switch causing the module to slam into the frame when I sent the module home. Built an offset bracket that would hit the Y axis limit switch before the module would slam into the frame.

Thanks for sharing. Just got mine and noticed the same issue with slop. Made a plastic shim that fit down both sides of the nut and it runs much smoother, still some wobble but the z slop is pretty much gone

Just got mine and it has a full 1/2 turn of play in the adjustment knob.
I shimed under the nut to remove that play but the threads are so undersized and very low quality there is still 1/4 turn of play.
The weight of the laser module should keep all the slop out but the thread quality is still very disappointing.
I actually need the added adjustment from the original slide mount, the adjustment range of this slide is not very much.
If you want to do away with the original slide just take this slide apart by removing the 4 screws holding the 2 rods in then mount the 2 halves to your carriage and laser then put the rods back in.

I just ordered the Twotrees Z Axis Height Adjuster, and I was wondering if that was the one you had on your Ortur. I almost ordered the one you reviewed, glad I didn't, Thank you, I hope my Two Trees is better.

I agree with you on the rod/nut problems, but I would like the fine adjustment of the Atomstack one, but that is personal preferences. As I see from the video there is also no 3D printable solution because there is not enough space between the channels. With a msrp of 59.99 USD I would expect a perfect product.

I will keep looking for one of those on craigslist and reengineer it to maybe work better but i wont buy one at regular price, does another brand fit an Atomstack?

Hi Mike. I don't know if anyone makes a compatible backet for the Atomstack. I gave up on the idea. I like the fine adjustment on my Ortur but I can live without it. Good luck with finding something that works. Thanks.

It should be made with linear rails instead of rods and ball screw instead of lead screw.
