I got my certification because I was tired of hearing women over 50 saying they ‘can’t ‘ do what I do. I started weight training at age 66. I am now 71. I now train women over 50 but not to make lots of money but to get them on a road to healthy living. I also got certified as a nutrition coach. I have found most people don’t even know basics anymore about good eating. I am a retired teacher so teaching others is in my blood. Love your podcasts and all the information you provide.

I’ve been a full-time self-employed personal trainer for 27 years. It’s all about the people. ❤ They are so grateful. Fitness for the general population is an extraordinarily rewarding career!

Because of you all, I’ve gained a new passion for wanting to dive into the world of PT, even if it’s just to help family and friends. Keep doing what you’re doing because it’s working!

Each client has their own quirks and needs, but I find something to love about them all. I'd always thought I sucked at sales, but your last point about everything we do with a client is sales was an epiphany for me! Now I realize that every change they make or form improvement because of a cue I give, is sales. I think that'll give me more confidence in "selling" myself and training packages. Great episode!

Just before I turned 45 at the end of June, I realised that if I don't do something about my health and fitness that I was only going to get bigger and bigger and probably die at an early age. So I joined the gym, got a program from them for free with my membership. I've been going every 2nd day and increasing my protein, cutting out sugary foods, listening to your podcasts. I hear you when you say a proper program is the way to go. I'm just at the beginning and would love to be doing everything I can to get myself into the best shape of my life. I'm really enjoying the gym, I just hope that my free program is the right exercises in the right order. I'd love to be able to afford a personal trainer or one of your bundles.

The stories of you picking this career - "what you need to do/want to do" from Sal - that feeling is exhilarating and I felt it instantly when I chose to be a dog groomer. I appreciate your talks & informative episodes!
I'm doing Muscle Mommy and you guys put together a fantastic program with it 😊 Have a great week!

I was just discussing with my sister-in-law what makes a good personal trainer before starting my work out (MAPS 15). I always listen to your podcast whilst training and today's talk is about what makes a good PT, you must of read my mind!

Great episode, I have been thinking about learning how to become a personal trainer, but not as a business. I want to learn how to coach my wife and kids through exercises since they have now joined me in the gym.

But a personal trainer for 5 years now. I got my degree in Human performance when I was in college. It’s got ebs and flows and you have great months, and months you wish you were better, but the thing that matters is that when I wake up and five am and start my car, I’m grateful everyday to do so.

    Good episode.
I used to do art for a career but it never got off the ground good enough that I could live offf of it alone.
Now I am looking for a new career path and coincidentally, physical therapy and fitness are on my radar.

Ppl don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.
You can’t fake that for long enough to be with your client long enough to create a real change in their lives. You can’t fake that long enough to be in the industry for long.
After listening to you guys for 40mins I’m sure you’ll appreciate when I say I get 100% where you’re at and can relate. 18 years in the industry. Respect 🫡

I feel like I could never be a personal trainer. It would piss me off too much to work hard in helping someone just for them to give up in the long run. Not that everyone does that but even when I give nutrition advice to some of my friends, they want to know all about it and keep asking me questions, then I see them a few days later and they are stuffing a pizza and donut in their face.

Question, would you say that in order to be a trainer, you have to have an extroverted personality? Just because you have to enjoy being around people all day. I do like people but I would consider myself an introvert

    • @MindPumpShow
      @MindPumpShow  2 місяці тому +2

No you don't need to be extremely extroverted

Really enjoyed hearing the stories. I remember how back in the day physical therapy was pushed as an career option for folks. It was pretty popular... but being a personal trainer wasn't really mentioned...

Hey guys! I have a topic I need advice on. I’m a trainer. Going on a year now. It’s going great but I’ve been dealing with an adductor injury for a few years now. Some days are worse than others for this injury. My issue is some days I feel really discouraged in the sense that I feel if I’ve failed to maintain my own body health optimally (this injury happened lifting) how can I be a good trainer? So I guess I’m asking for advice on how I can mentally fight the negative thoughts on this? Or just a general opinion on this

Some of the certifications online are insanely easy like ISSA. It just multiple choice quizzes you can keep retaking. I did it in 3 days. But I didn't learn anything from it

Don't do it 🚫. Unless you are exceptional at the craft 📝 The hours are horrendous, pay is adequate at best and the turnover is ridiculous. Forget about getting sick 🤧, no pay. You have to be "on" for a full hour with a total stranger probably 6-7 times a day. You have to keep fit and look the part. You have to excel at sales as well. I do love it though.
