A year or so ago I was looking for a verse by verse Bible commentary and surely the Lord guided me to click on Enduring Word. What a gift Lord, you have changed my life David, I read the reading, then I read your commentary(how I have learned to love Spurgeon because of you). And then I listen to your audio or video while I'm getting dressed and doing my hair etc. I am old and slow so I usually hear it all at that time. It not I finish after breakfast. You hammer home every point and I need that. I feel you've helped me squeeze every drop out of every passage.. It has drawn me closer to the Lord. I live in France and the very dear English speaking Christian friends I have around me are a bit triumphalist, you know "God heals everyone every time it's just a question of Faith..". Or "God wants us all to be rich
stumbled into your commentaries and it has deepened my understanding of scripture and called me deeper in my faith this past semester. Love the focus on context and I feel as though it is very biblically rooted. been such a blessing to me! bless you!!
Pastor I thank you for this! I’m an armor bearer who was struggling with complacency and unsurety. It gave me revelation to my confusion. I was at the verge of scaling back serving in my ministry, even considering not wanting to serve at all. Thanks to Holy Spirit a day before finding this video, 1Timothy popped into my mind. I couldn’t get past chapter 1. Then after praying and reading, I searched for a commentary and found your video. Listening while driving I literally felt a deposit of clarification drop into my soul. I had an “Oooohhh” moment. So much peace and joy came over my being. My eyes are wide open and I know like Timothy, that I must stay in Ephesus. The enemy will always be there to whisper that you’re not enough. Rebuke him and remind him Jesus conquered him already. Walk by faith and not by sight. And always cling to Jesus.
David, in Ephesus, the apostle Paul wants Timothy to fight the good spiritual battle (1 Timothy 1:18), as Paul is concerned about the "savage wolves" who will come in to the Ephesian situation and distort the truth (Acts 20:28-31), and those "wolves" who distort the truth can introduce false doctrines and myths to lead people astray (1 Timothy 1:3-4). In order to go against false doctrines, Scripture needs to be used to "rebuke" and "correct" that which is not accurate according to the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16). Also, in spiritual warfare, the Bible says, "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." -- (2 Corinthians 10:5). By making every thought obedient to Christ, I act like Jesus can hear my every thought like God can hear my every prayer, so that I do not battle with any evil words, deeds, or behaviors, or anything sinful like slander or lies to win in the shameful way the world does in its sinful efforts (James 4:4; Romans 1:18). Also, to put on the full spiritual armor of God is essential to march forward victoriously (Ephesians 6:10-18). Finally, when the apostle Paul wrote, "I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief" (1 Timothy 1:13), Simon Peter clarified this in the book of Acts, "Now, fellow Israelites, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders. But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Messiah would suffer. Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you -- even Jesus. Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets." -- (Acts 3:17-21).
I dont understand how you can compare Pauls sin to our own ,the bible says we work out our own salvation with fear and trembling ,and ...God does not differentiate between sins !Sin is sin one is no different that the other ! Except blaspheming against the holy spirit ( speaking in tongues) ...I think you have misunderstood what Paul is saying ,pray and ask God to help you see it the way he has written it threw Paul !
