Thank you so much pastor for this exposition of such an important passage of scripture for Ecclesiastical leadership. I've been really blessed 🙏🏽. You're online Bible commentary has been really helpful in my studies.
This is an excellent video. I do agree how it's not a sin for a single person to be a pastor. When the Bible says in 1 Timothy 3 how pastors need to be the husband of one wife, it doesn't mean that pastors have to be married. It means that pastors need to be people who don't struggle with adultery, who aren't players, who aren't womanizers, who are loyal to their spouse if they are married, etc. The Greek word for husband of one wife in 1 Timothy 3 means someone who doesn't struggle adultery. Paul, Timothy, and Titus were pastors of churches, and they were never married, and God approved of them being pastors, which is strong evidence how it's not a sin for single people to be pastors. When the Bible says how pastors need to be good parents to their children, manage their household well, etc, it doesn't mean that pastors are required to have kids. It means that pastors need to be good parents if they have kids. Pastors are not required to have kids, but pastors are required to be good parents if they have kids. Paul, Timothy, and Titus were pastors, and they never had any kids, and God approved of them being pastors. The 3 main qualifications for being a pastor are being able to teach the Bible in ways people can understand, being able to lead a church effectively, and having good Christian character. No one is perfect, everyone sins, everyone makes mistakes in life, etc, but having sin weaknesses in the areas of adultery, being a bad parent, lying, cheating, stealing, being abusive towards people, being unloving towards people, being a drunkard, etc are sin weaknesses that cause someone to be unfit to be a pastor. Keep up the great work with your videos. Keep up the great work living for the Lord. I wish you the best.
In verse 15 it speaks about the house of God,, Do you think we should decorate it up for vacation Bible school and have activities in the sanctuary….i know Jesus turn table upside down…Thanks for all you do..
Pastor Lance replies - The New Testament and Early Christians never really had much regard for the idea of a "sacred place" for their gathering. There simply was no "sanctuary." They met where ever they could. It wasn't until much later when the church became a partner to the State, that buildings became designated as special places for the church. We ought not connect the idea of where the church meets to the Jewish temple.
Would that be ok if I use some of the fine details about the elder and deacon to inform as I also teach on Timothy. I know most of the historical backround, but was thankful how you gave fine details in this chapter! May I use some of this for my teaching ?
Question; what do we do with Phoebe the deaconess, Junia who was at note among the Apostles, the prophetesses such as the daughters of Phillip (prophesy is not only to woman but to male and female), what about Priscilla and Aquila who (taught) Apollos a more excellent way? These are women just to name a few women who clearly gave Godly words and also taught men as well as women according to the scriptures? There are many more woman in the Old and New covenant..who clearly evangelized, taught, prophesied etc.
Great questions. Phoebe the deaconess- No problem there. Women can be deacons. Junia-She was recognized and appreciated by the apostles. That seems to be the message of most translations. It doesn't mean that she was an apostle. The daughters of Phillip- no problem that they had the gift of prophecy. Priscilla-she ministered side by side with her husband, but did not have authority ver a church body, nor over any man. Paul's main point on 1 Timothy 2 is that women should not be teaching man of having authority over them. That's my understanding on that issue. I hope that helps. Blessings!
So there is an Old Testament as well I think it lays out a template for leadership rolls. Not to mention that new an old testament stuff is things that Man created after the fact.
ONE WIFE. The wife and the children are a reflection of the man's teaching them the word then reflects outside the home. This is how they prove whether a man is capable of leading a church. In order to have children he clearly would have ONE WIFE. Full council of God always .
Interesting, we see here a list of qualifications for the "overseer" and deacons. So it sounds like the early church had a hierarchy. What is this overseer/bishop thing they speak of? Why would the church need someone to lead the church? Didn't Jesus abolish the priesthood?
In discussing “husband of one wife,” you did not address divorce and remarriage. Jesus addressed the permissibility of divorce and remarriage resulting from sexual immortality by one part of the married couple. Despite this, many churches exclude those who have been divorced.
Baruch Korman of Love Israel addresses this, and his interpretation is exclusive, on the basis that the Bible doesn't set out exceptions, so we should take it as it is.
@@mb1015 the Bible does present exceptions, specifically, as I pointed out, when Jesus said divorce and remarriage results in adultery EXCEPT in the case of sexual immorality causing the divorce.
So can a man be considered for service as a deacon if he has been married and divorced then remarried? 2nd marriage. His first marriage was a young dumb mistake. Should he be denied deaconship because of that? 2nd marriage lasted over 50 years.
They are qualified by the behaviour seen by their family. And if he is the father of children then we can safely say wife means wife otherwise he is comitting adultery. 3:4 having his children in subjection with all gravity!
Swaggart expositor's 1 Tim 3:2 says about the qualifications (these are qualities and not qualifications as some claim). Mine bibles in captions call them qualifications. Changing qualifications to qualities makes Jimmy look like he is qualified. He knows he isn't qualified according to 1 Tim 3:2, so he willingly rewrites the sacred words of the bible. Rev 22:18-19 I testify to everyone who hears the words of prophecy in this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. Thankfully, he does get some people saved, but it doesn't qualify him to be pastor or church leader, according to 1 Tim 3:2. Jimmy needs to repent for rewriting the bible. Donnie isn't qualified to preach according to 1 Tim 3:2-8. Donnie counting all his wife's marriages and his own (11 total).

Interesting.
19:36 Also means that a leader couldn't have more than one wife, as was common in that time and culture.

I think verse 11 is talking about the wives of the deacons. If it was about women deacons, it wouldn’t have said their wives.

Paul was not called to be a pastor and Jesus Christ is the King of Kings my friend.
Careful! God in flesh was not here to marry women.
It means wife!
Women can be a leader. Equality. Neither male or female. Gal. Think logically.
Not in the church
Neither male or female is about heaven not earth. Unless you deny reality you can clearly see that there are men and women.
