@davidc3839 Agreed. We have a kid in my family that was shot and died, and the other kid, the one that shot him? His grandfather let him have guns unsupervised. Nobody was charged, nobody is disallowed guns, and the whole thing was ruled an accident. Shameful! A shooting is NEVER an accident.

@davidc3839 there is gun control but ILLEGAL guns run rampant AND idiots who can't parent and put a gun in a child's hands when they clearly knew he wasn't well are to blame.
If you don't live in the states, yoy have a very skewed view. Guess what, NY and Chicago have gun laws and there are still shootings.

As a parent, I don’t find the school shooting parents trial terrifying. I’m over here, working 6 days a week as a single parent, busting my ass to make sure I’m doing a good job as a mom, while also teaching my child to be kind to her fellow students, not just bc I don’t want to raise a garbage human being, but also bc it could literally save her life someday. I’m over here teaching my middle schooler to disregard all teacher instructions and to run in a zigzag pattern, hop fences to escape campus, and get to a house where she can use someone’s phone to call 911 and then me. THAT is terrifying. Accountability is not terrifying, to anyone doing their job as a parent. If you don’t know how to parent, that’s ok- take a class. Take a literal community college class, and if you need more, take more. I did. It really helped me not to yell all the time like my parents did. Seek the help. Keep after it. First development from a school shooting since Columbine (I was a senior in high school then) that I HAVENT found terrifying. Maybe this will even be the thing that turns the tide.

I raised 5 kids with hunting guns in the house, they were always locked when we were not using them “together “ up north hunting!!! Not saying, “hey take these anytime you want kids!” Hell no! These parents were more like his roommates than parents. I heard James Crumley’s Prison phone calls or Jail phone calls and it was just disgusting. He’s disgusting. They both are disgusting and they’re right where they need to be right now. if they would’ve been parents, none of those would’ve happened and their kid wouldn’t be where he is and they wouldn’t be where they are!!! The school as well could have addressed this differently as well!

When your child comes home and walks through that door…please parents, look up and smile at them, acknowledge them and let them see your eyes light up. Please keep them confident that they are welcome, supported and YOURS! Teach them well and guide them about consequences by communication. Love them unconditionally and then there’s HOPE for humanity after all. Ethics go a long way too…it’s not hard, it’s a part of life. A good cycle of life starts at 🏡 HOME. 🫶

Re Crumbley: At first I wasn't behind this prosecution. Why? We had 3 kids, all raised the same. One of them could have turned into Ethan. Good parents can get a bad/troubled kid. However, once we started hearing and seeing things we didn't understand, we put the kid in therapy, with psychs, even inpatient programs. And our kid did NOT ask for help; in fact, violently fought us on this. We did everything we could afford to get our kid help. When I started hearing how Ethan was asking for help and didn't get it, my opinion changed. This goes beyond bad parenting. How could they ignore him? And when she said she would do nothing differently, my blood boiled. I wish I could tell you ours had a happy ending, but. . . . it didn't. Many years later things are holding, but we can't do anything now as our kids are adults.

I dont know enough about the trespassing on ranch story to have an opinion 100% but… the property owner is in an area where drugs snd ppl do get trafficked. Those ppl are usually armed. His property is huge, and for that guy to end up that close hes basically at the guys house. Hes also elderly wich makes him more vulnerable. Just that info makes me think he was justified in shooting. Its sad that a man died, but its not like its unheard of that trespassing can get you shot. Also with how bad our country is doing right now, most people ( rightfully) feel like they have to look out for their own and not rely on help from government. I think we will see more things like this as people take more things into their own hands. I hope im wrong, but sadly i doubt it.

I don't find the Crumbley case murky at all. I think the line has been drawn at exactly the right place. I've watched journalists debate over whether the Crumbley's were at fault and noone mentions the unsecured firearm and ammunition that the parents purchased and took him to practice shooting. This wasn't a hunting gun. They bought their troubled kid a Sig Sauer handgun and left it unlocked at home! The cases weren't just about whether a parent can reasonably foresee that their child will harm others. It was about whether the Crumbley's even "parented" their son. They left their son alone most of the time and openly ignored him when he pleaded for them to come home. This kid was eating dinner alone while Mom was riding horses and hooking up with random people she met on dating sites. They laughed at him when he talked about having hallucinations, told people their son was "weird", and didn't even bother to tell the school that they had bought him the very gun he was drawing violent pictures of in school. How about discussing the fact that they sold their property and hid the money so they could use it for their own defense and left their kid to be represented by a public defender?

Im so glad that the "parents" got punished, tho i loathe to even associate the word parent with either of them.

Unless you actually teach your kid to go hunting, like actively take them out and show them useful skills in hunting, u shouldn't get guns. I live in Canada. We csn get guns if we use them for hunting. Guns aren't a hobby. They aren't fun. They're deadly weapons. They're tools that give us an advantage when hunting.
We don't have any gun violence where I live. Here and there, every decade, we may have an isolated situation where someone gets their hands on an illegal gun abd something might happen. Might. It's much safer to do things this way.
My sister lives in states abd likes her guns. She said " what if someone breaking abd has a gun? How would I protect myself?" Okay, but that person got a gun so easily from a store or bought it off someone else so easily that they're in abundance. Wait a minute this guy says it is "not the responsibility of the school/state to raise your kid" BUT they can change your kids name without your permission, they can get hormones for your kid if the kid request it. So wher eis the line of parent responsibility and the school/state responsibility? Lose me on this shit. You are talking out of both sides of your mouth. Parents take back control over your children!!!

It's hard to think if my children do something wrong that I have to go to jail. I don't feel like this was the parents' fault.
