    Hey Nate! It's been while sence I've commented. As before I always learn something from your videos. Even though Creger my German shepherd just turned a year old, I can still credit your training videos for the things I've taught him. When I take him out in public and people ask how I got him to behave so well I always, always tell them about you. Thanks again for what your doing here.

      Anxiety as it relates to dog training is often caused by fear. To overcome this, we can use counterconditioning and desensitization techniques. Habituation can also be helpful. Check out this video for more information: ua-cam.com/video/LSaA1SnZ90Q/v-deo.html

    Hey Nate what's the trick if the dog does not like a collar or leash?

    • @NateSchoemer
      @NateSchoemer  Рік тому

      Create a strong positive association by making the collar and leash predict things your dog likes. For example, put the collar and leash on before engaging in play, training, eating, or any activity your dog enjoys. Then, take them off after the fun activity. This practice will encourage your dog to like the collar and leash because they predict enjoyable activities. I hope this helps!

      We started day one with our gsd mal mix around a year ago. Now she is so well trained. I suggest also checking out McCann dog training on UA-cam also. Both Nate and McCann dogs helped to have us as humans understand how to train our 7 week old puppy. As Nate says, start with markers, then lure work, then introducing the cues to the dog. I hope this helps you and your cute pup. Have fun.

    Hey Nate, great video as always. I have one question for you or anyone who wants to answer. If you want to use a clicker because it makes the same sound ever time, would you advise using it only for one marker eg for the terminal marker? Or is there a practical way to use it in multiple ways? I mean "loading the clicker" is propably a good thing in many ways, eg so that you can recall your dog when there are many overwhelming distractions (heard that in your video top 5 most important commands), but you propably dont always want to use it for recall when it is already your terminal marker, because then it rewards the dog for being distracted or am I wrong?

    Hi Nate! Thanks for all these videos. I recently adopted a puppy, he is 9 weeks old, it is Belgian Shepperd Malinoi. He is very smart and very confident. the problem I am facing is that he is very stubborn! when he does something wrong like chewing a slipper (when we wearing them) we try to redirect him with toys or food and distract him he does not care, he would continue, we also try to pop the leash a couple of time, but he still does not care, he goes right back at it. I did not insist on the "leash popping" since I don't want him to be traumatized by it; I also have difficulties to get his attention to me, he is always sniffing away (inside the house with no toys nor food around). Would you have any other advise I could try to overcome these behaviors? Thanks a lot!

      Jean, I hope you know what you getting yourself into. My question to you, have you own a Belgian Malinois before? When it comes to those dogs, you need to watch Andy Krueger videos as well. Never set up your dog for failure, you don't allow your dog eat your slippers. You have to correct the dog immediately, sure Belgian are stubborn dogs but you have to force your dog to listen. I am not talking about anything abusive. I mean you have to let that dog know, who's in charge with a come and collective voice. You can hold the dog collar until the tension is gone or in a relax stage. When you said, you don't like the popping leash technique. You are setting up your dog for failure. Remember you don't have a lab or a easy going dog. You have to be on that dog all the time. My two cent. I have a 13 weeks GSD working line. breed

    • @jean-francoishonnay4971
      @jean-francoishonnay4971 2 роки тому +1

      @trueGrizzlesFAN22 thanks for your reply. I don't allow him to eat them, it is just that suddenly, he is jumping on them and I do correct the dog immediately, i suppose the question was more, is there a less invasive way to correct him. Belgian Shepherd is the first time indeed, but I did have a few German Shepherds (I know it is not the same but they also require more attention) before and never had any issues with them. I must admit, this one is pretty stubborn :-D

    • @truegrizzlesfan2292
      @truegrizzlesfan2292 2 роки тому +2

      @@jean-francoishonnay4971 when it comes to Belgian Malinois there are no such less invasive way of training those dogs. They are dominant dogs for a reason. Belgian are the type of dog that like to wrestle while a GSD will chase. However, GSD will wrestle if you Force the dog to do so. Belgian is a GSD on steroids. GSD dog have a show line and a working line. GSD working line have same drive as a Belgian Malinois. Backyard breeders have hurt the drive in most GSD. To find a good one you going to need to find a great breeder which reputation.. when you said you own a GSD in past, you might had a show line which is still a GSD but drive is low compared to a working line GSD and a Belgian.. My 13 weeks GSD is very stubborn but I slowly working those stubborn out. I lure her with food or toys. I post a comment today, thanking Nate for all he have done.my dog training is going so well.

    • @jean-francoishonnay4971
      @jean-francoishonnay4971 2 роки тому

      @@truegrizzlesfan2292 Thank you for your reply; but this is not really what I asked for advise and I am not sure breed as anything to do with my question anyway. Maybe you misunderstood because English is not my first language, let me try to go back on track by explaining the situation in a different way. Let me also precise, that I have watched all of Nate's videos and they are very helpful and I have learnt a lot thanks to them. The question would be, what would be the next step to do when the dog is focus on a bad behavior when redirection do not work (weather it is toys or treats or anything else), when leash pressure do not do the trick and when popping the leash does not work neither? with this little guy, you could pop the leash 40 times, he would come back 41 times, he is very focused on what he wants to do; Nates is talking about making things fun, this is not fun for him. What I do when he is like this is I take him to another room or to another part of the garden and start something else. Other than that, he is a very good boy, he is well behaved and fun. just sometimes, he gets focused to much on something he should not do, and this where, I have difficulties to change his focus toward something else, this where I am asking for advice. Thanks again for your time.

    Im havimg a problem with the one thats being trained to take over for her when she fully retires though -

    • @bdogg20101

      It will definitely take time to rebuild their confidence. I would not recommend rushing her. That could make things worse for her. Especially since she just went through a traumatic situation.

    Hello! I have a golden doodle that’s 12 weeks and has no interest in food or toys and I’m stumped on how to start training, any advice ?

    • @CakewalkHootenanny
      @CakewalkHootenanny Рік тому

      Point number one is that 12 weeks is still quite young. Many puppies are enjoying training at that age but many are not. Patience and your pup will become interested. Show him lots of different stuff and do lots of things with him and pay attention to what he likes. Point two is that if you want to create food interest then stop feeding him. Sometimes it can take 3 days but often it is less than that. Then you feed him his training kibble.
