Second or third time watching this. (I know I know, slow learner). This video is just magic on the subject of alliums. Thank you. PS. I wish I could like it each time I re-watch. 🇨🇦👍👍👍🇨🇦❤️👩🌾👩🌾
Generously shared good tips again Steve. There I am gently stroking my leeks keeping them warm and cosy and you’re beating the life out of them! 👍🏾 great. I’ll be looking up calcified seaweed now.
I’ve started double sowing as back-ups after you said to safe guard yourself. I see tomatoes are £5 a plant now in the shops. So after all the blight we had last year & losing my entire lot I’ve planted loads. I can’t be without them again. I’ve got some in the greenhouse & some on the windowsill. Hedge my bets as you always say & I feel better for it 😅 £1 for 10-20 seeds or £5 a plant- no brainer - then I can give some away if need be. I like the early leek trick 👍🏻 great idea for autumn 🍂 food prices going up so these little tips are REALLY useful right now. Thanks Steve
Hi Steve I just want to say thank you for all your gardening advice. I recently followed your advice about taking cuttings from snap dragon plants.. so I took what I could from the one plant which made it through the winter... 9 cuttings in all ...and 8 have rooted :-) this is so much easier than seeds... and I will definitely do this again... thank you 😊
Hi Alan, I will be doing my own lives at some point, I did run a couple of test lives earlier in the year and I have been gathering some knowledge and bits of equipment etc since. I have no idea at this point when my lives will start, only that they will...Steve...😃
I've caught some of the lives but some of them don't have the option for replay. I am hard of hearing, so I am able to use CC on replay a couple hrs after the live. Please ask him to do that, thank you.
Excellent vlog, great info. I typically use all purpose organic fertilizer with bone meal and I keep hitting with Chilean nitrogen until they bulb. Never knew about calcified seaweed....gotta try it now, as I am a huge allium fan...this year red onion, shallots (first time from seed), leeks and bunching onions.
@@MrCobbsalad I agree with you. But the policy is supposed to be because wildlife uses it for nesting and they peck through it for any small creatures caught. I think the green lovers had to do with it.
Hi Steve thanks for another great video. Wish I'd known about calcified seaweed before I planted out my onions and garlic ☹️... is it too late to apply it once the plants are in? I'm definitely going to get some for my leek beds having listened to your advice. Mandy 💚
Hi Jo, I was born in 1965 and I am in my 57th year, I started gardening at my Grandads knee at around 5 years old and helped with everything from sowing seeds to hoeing weeds...Steve...😃

Yes, I am mean to my plants at times, it is ok with the Leeks, but I would be much more careful with something like Celeriac...Steve...😃
another brilliant video mate. Looking forward to the live as they're always a good laugh.
Many thanks Fatdad!...Steve...😃
Great looking onions 👍
Cheers Jonny...Steve...😃
Another great update Steve 👍

You are welcome Jo, the price of plants is also getting to silly prices so sowing seeds is a lifesaver...Steve...😃

Grass cut today. Finally tidy lawns 👍
That is always a relief to get that done, I messed up and cut mine too short!...Steve...😃
@@GreenSideUp It will bounce back in a week or so.
Some great tips here - thank you

Great info as usual I wish you would do a live broadcast by yourself I have issues with Tony and his gardening etc
What's your issues Alan ????
@@ballysillanallotment-man5793 Hiya Bally just my thoughts I wouldnt like to say I just wish that Steve would do his own channel

Sounds like a perfect season of allium harvesting there!...Steve...😃
I remember planting onions like that many years ago. I need to find dried seaweed. In Florida it's not allowed to pick up seaweed at the beach.
Not allowed? It's a free natural resource, nobody owns it.

@@peggyhelblingsgardenwhatyo7920 ah OK Peggy. Best of luck.
On Tony's channel? I can imagined who organized that. It should be hosted on yours.
Hi Kath, I will be doing lives sometime this year, see my reply to Alan Taggarts post here...Steve...😃
Watching closely. I’m getting nervous now…. The onion shoots look great so I’m terrified somethings going to go wrong.
You will be fine Eli...Steve...😃
Oh I live Jesse from plot 37 !
She is a good lass Angelina and very knowledgeable also...Steve...😃
Great video, your onions looking great I didn't start mine on boxing Day but there looking ok could be better. Though
I'm sure they will be fine Mark, size is not everything, so I am told...Steve...😃

Hello Steve, what kind of fertilizer do you use for the elephant garlic (and primeval leek) Something special?? Chicken manure?? See you tomorrow! 👩🌾
Hi Estella, it is a no dig bed and it has it's own feed already within it...Steve...😃
Where do u get your calcified seaweed from
Hi Patricia, I normally get my fertilisers locally if I can but you can find it easily enough on ebay...Steve...😃
Just wondering how old are you if you were gardening in the early 1970’s?
Hi Jo, I was born in 1965 and I am in my 57th year, I started gardening at my Grandads knee at around 5 years old and helped with everything from sowing seeds to hoeing weeds...Steve...😃
Can I do this with onions instead of leeks? And can I sow leeks now we are at the end of April?
So much knowledge shared, fair play Steve.
My onions look sad and floppy now, must try some seaweed or maybe I've planted them too close together.
They should pick up given time...Steve...😃
I'm first although I have an advantage lol
That's cheating!!...Steve...😁😁😁
@@GreenSideUp Nope it's an advantage my dear hee hee
