i feel the same man theres only a few small amount of isakei i like and i think are good like tanya the evil or re zero but it is good and fun when u find a good isekai
the difference is the sense of whats at stake. in gaming anime its a game even if the party gets wiped eh no big deal lets take a break and play more tomorow, but in isekai you locked in wether you want to be there or not and you dont know the rules you could die and thats it or like log horizon you lose a part of your past from the real world.
What is it that hard isekai is simply imagine a random IRL morron get throw into another world, originaly it is supposed to be a power fantasy of the low life frustrated human that has a miserable life and can finaly realy escape it and shine above everyone in another one, thats just power nerd fantasy. that is the very basic premice for it. THEN the concept can be extend to even people that are not based on us, its bit meaningless but its ok i guess, but you can have completly made up world and a guy in this world is also isekaied in another world, that works. And finaly that is less used and is even another sub genre but i guess is also kinda isekai, is more like solo leveling or GATE, when you still live in your world, but there is a collision of various worlds and you can go in and there, its because suddenly IRL get mixed with another world fantasy, but its less comon and derived a bit. Thats it, nothing complicated here. Edit : a bit of clarification because sometime people are just confused, i hate when people just see isekai and then oh its another one its bad bla bla bla... Its like everything, manga can be good dispite this. Its just that many writters used it as a basic and easy trop to appeal to like i said above the nerf power fantasy, its just an realy easy a low trops most of the time because its used to create an fast starting point that people will understand fast and more importantly to try to forcefully implant engagement in the viewer, like "looks its an isekai so obviously you are the protagonist who can escape you miserable life and live a dream life" they just try to instantly hook up on people with this trope. And thats where lies the problem, it has been so many time used with not much implication that in the end it lose his sens and because many manga werent realy good people losed a bit of interest and now be like isekai = bad. A manga like saihate no paladin is a very weird exemple, the anime is realy not bad, but funnily enough its an isekai, do you see anywhere why ? just because at the very begening there is one line be like "i dont remember, i died and reborn here but dont remember anything, i'll use this new life to make it better" something in that style and thats it, there is practicaly ZERO reference to his previous life or anything, i clearly think in a manga like that the trop was used just to appeal in that regard and also to give an easy access to write an OP MC, once you passed that like i said the anime is realy not bad. There are many that are just for fun, those are filling manga, you like or you dont it doesnt matter much, and there are many that are a big mess because there is a realy good base concept but its clearly poorly used and thats infurating, latest in date i can think of is "cheat skill level up" The visual is stunning, outside of a few CGI scene probably for budget, but it was ok i guess, anyway, and the very basic of the anime is interesting, you got an nice guy but realy is trash in his life and suddenly find a power from another world, i pass on on the detail but the thing is that everything happen and is good the guy turn from a potato to a model but everything happen dispite on him and not thanks to him, the guy is still a low life cunt, cant take any decision by himself. What a waste, this could have implied a lots of good stories, but like 99% of the time writters have no skill in writting, especialy 0 ambitions, all those stories are pretty much rehash of clasic tropes and could be AI generated that im wouldnt be surprised with how generic they are. Anyway, isekai is fine, there is nothing wrong with it, actualy to the countrary, it could be way more used to clearly dive into human mind, like we live in this world, but what if suddenly everything change and you are forcefully put in this on that situation, how would you react ? you dont necessarly need an isekai for this but its a pretty good starting point because it clearly put right in front of them 2 different vision so its easier to build on this, but writters dont even use this they just build basic harem comedy storries with fucking low life virgin MC that can never take any decision thats most of the time frustrating than anything
