Greatest moment of me and my Wife's live's...We got married 3 days before (Yes, we really planned our wedding around the superbowl) we figured it would be Tom Brady's last superbowl, and our last chance to see it in person (Boy, were we wrong) well, 36,500$ later for two seats, it was the GREATEST 5 or so hours of our lives...still can't believe it was real when we think back to it! I'm not a fan of either team (I'm a Raiders fan), but this game was absolutely insane! Atlanta had the Patriots dead to rights, and they blew it. They had the chance to be the first team to win a Super Bowl at their own home stadium, and they let Tom Brady do his thing, and it was all over after that. There was nothing left but the crying lol. The "missed kickoff" is called an on-sides kick and is intentional. If the ball goes more than 10 yards, it is a free ball and can be recovered by the kicking team. It wasn't in this case.

In overtime, it’s only first score wins, if it’s a TD or the result of a turnover.

Super Bowls are played at a different location each year, and venues are announced several years in advance. They are always in NFL stadiums and they have to meet certain specifications so not every stadium in the league is eligible. A team can play on their own stadium, it’s just very unlikely. In this game Atlanta actually is in their home stadium, and last year (Feb 2021) the Tampa Bay Buccaneers became the first team ever to win the Super Bowl at their home stadium. Oddly enough, their quarterback was Tom Brady, the quarterback for the Patriots in this game.

I can't believe you guys aren't familiar with Tom Brady. The game replay just isn't the same without the sound clip of the wide receivers from Atlanta doubting their advantage because "That's Tom Brady." The reason you don't go for two points every time after a touchdown is because it's much more difficult. A single point kick is almost automatic, except it's now a bit more difficult recently as they moved the kick distance back. The kick-off that doesn't go far is a high risk attempt to get the ball back again, the problem is it has an insanely low success rate and if the other team recovers, they have great field position. American football has a lot of high risk, high reward mechanics to it, it's like pulling your goalie in a hockey game.

You just watched the GOAT make another amazing comeback after hearing for a couple of years that he was too old to play anymore, at 40 years old. This would be true for most QBs, as their arm strength really falls off, and injuries destroy their bodies. He's still doing it today. It's amazing. As others have said he nearly went undrafted, and now stands as the undisputed GOAT. Seven rings. It's honestly inspirational. And to top it off he's a genuinely good guy and an obvious teamleader.

The funny thing is, Tom Brady also used to play Baseball as a kid, and right out of high school he was drafted at 507th overall pick in the 18th Round of the 1995 MLB Draft by the then Montreal Expos (now the Washington Nationals) but he opted to pursue American Football in college, he studied at the University of Michigan and played for Football team Michigan Wolverines.

This game never gets old for me. Tom Brady was never the most athletic QB. He fought hard to be a starting QB in college, he was largely ignored in the NFL draft (where teams get to pick players coming out of college -6 QBs were picked before him) and he only got to start in New England when their top QB got hurt. From all of this, he went on to be the Greatest of All Time. He’s been to 10 Super Bowls and has won 7. No NFL team has won 7 Super Bowls! He’s still playing (and playing well) and he’s going to be 45 soon -an unheard of age. He is known for incredible comebacks in big games. “Never count Tom Brady out.” This game is the perfect illustration of why that is true.

The history/info you were looking for are these:
    1. This was New England Patriots' 9th appearance in the Super Bowl making them the only team in NFL history who has appeared in it multiple times.
    2. This was Tom Brady's 7th appearance in a Super Bowl making him the only QB in NFL history to have appeared in it multiple times.
    3. If NE Patriots win SB51, both Tom Brady and the Patriots would have their 5th Super Bowl championship and it would make Tom Brady the only QB in NFL history to have won a Super Bowl multiple times and also would make him the oldest player in NFL history to win one.
    4. This was Atlanta Falcons' 2nd Super Bowl appearance.
    5. If ATL Falcons win SB51 that would make it their very first SuperBowl victory/championship in their franchise history.
    6. ATL Quarterback Matt Ryan was the league MVP during that NFL season (note: the league MVP and the eventual SB MVP are different).
    7. Tom Brady was just coming off a revenge tour (watch The Revenge Tour documentary I provided in an earlier comment to know the context)
    8. In NFL there are 2 conferences the NFC & AFC, the eventual champions of both conferences face off for the Super Bowl trophy (Lombardi Trophy). The ATL Falcons were NFC Champs and NE Patriots were AFC Champs.
    9. Tom Brady was an aging QB at this point, he was 39, and everyone thought this was his last hoorah in a Super Bowl and in the league as a whole.
What are both team's histories NOW:
    1. NE Patriots have since appeared in 2 more Super Bowls after SB51 and have won 1.
    2. Tom Brady no longer plays for the Patriots after 20 years with the team and has since moved on to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
    3. ATL Falcons have not appeared in any more Super Bowls after SB51.
    4. Matt Ryan still plays for the Falcons.
    5. The #11 for both teams no longer plays for either team, ATL #11 Julio Jones now plays as #2 for the Tennessee Titans, and NE #11 Julian Edelman recently retired.

      B) several quarterbacks have appeared in multiple Super Bowls

      D) Tom Brady won his 7th Super Bowl in his first year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2020 season)
      E) (not a correction, an observation) Tom Brady is the greatest NFL quarterback of all time

To explain the rules a little: if your team has the ball, you have four plays (called "downs") to move the ball forward 10 yards/ meters. You can do that by running the ball or passing it. So, you might gain 2 yards on the first down before a tackle, then 5 more on the second, then you have two more downs to move the ball forward 3 more yards, for a total of 10. If your team fails to advance the ball 10 yards in 4 downs, then the other team gets possession of the ball on whatever yard line play stopped at, and it's their turn to go on offense and try to gain ground against you!
EDIT: lol a touchdown is worth 6 points. If you get a touchdown, you get a bonus chance, where you can either try to kick a field goal through the posts for 1 bonus point, or run the ball into the endzone for 2 bonus points. That's what "going for 2" means lol.

The Patriots'(blue pants) quarterback is Tom Brady, whom you may have heard of. He's won 7 Super Bowls(6 with Patriots, 1 with Buccaneers), more than any other player... or team. He went to the University of Michigan for college and was nicknamed the "comeback kid" because he would always find a way to get the win even when trailing late.

  • @APG34

when you saw the kicker kick it short after the Patriots first Touchdown its called an onside kick the ball has to travel at least 10 yards otherwise you get a penalty and the ball automatically goes to the other side. The benefit of the the play is that it gives you a chance to get the ball back immediately but it is considered a desperation play because of time constraints in the game. The Patriots were still down big at this point with little time left in the game. The play is difficult to pull off because lots of things go wrong on the kick usually either its kicked to far or not far enough and the kicking team gets a penalty or they just kick it to the receiving team and they end up getting really good field position.

I almost felt dumbfounded that you were sitting there watching the G.O.A.T (Tom Brady) bring his team (The Patriots) back from a 25-point deficit to win his 5th Super Bowl ring (at the time) he has 7 now and is retired. Despite all of that, I actually enjoyed it more because you guys didn't know who was who, and at times, y'all were even getting into it like the game was live and no one knew the outcome yet. I'm a Patriots fan, and I remember that game vividly. For later reference, when a game is tied in the [playoffs or super bowl they play extra periods until someone wins. There is a coin toss and the team who either scores the first touchdown leads after both teams have had the ball once wins. The NFL used to have "sudden death" overtime where the first team to score would win. But if a team won the coin toss and scored the other team never got a chance to try to score. So the NFL modified the rule a few years ago to give both teams a chance (sort of). But if the team who wins the coin toss gets a touchdown instead of a field goal or no score, they automatically win. Over time in college is much more exciting. It is untimed except for the play clock. Each team gets the ball on their opponent's 25 yard line and has four downs to get a first down, touch down, field goal, or no score. After which, the other team gets the ball on their opponent's 25 yard line and it can go back and forth for as long as it takes. but in college football, both teams have an equal chance to score. Some college games have 7, 8, or 9 overtimes before a winner was declared. So to speed up the final outcome in overtime in college, after a couple of possessions, the teams are now required to go for two points after a touch down since two point conversions are harder to get than a one point extra point. This seems to be fairer and reduces the amount of overtimes. Winning the coin toss in over time in the NFL means you will want possession of the ball first so you have a chance to win without the other team getting a chance to tie it. But in college football, the advantage is in going last so you know what you have to beat or tie. Therefore if a team wins the coin toss for overtime in college football, the defer and let the other team go first.

What made this so great is that in American Football it can take a long time to score a Touchdown, i´ve seen some take 10 minutes. And the Patriots were down by 25 points with less than 20 minutes left. Everything had to be perfect for them to come back and win, but what also makes it even more special is that Tom Brady was always doubted throughout his career, he was chosen 199th overall in the 2000 nfl draft, so basically all the NFL teams thought that 198 players were better than Brady, and when Brady got chosen, and he met the owner he told the owner that he would be the best decision the Patriots ever made. Also to add even more context, Brady was suspended for the first 4 games of the season due to a witch hunt by NFL comissioner Roger Goodell, for a scandal that was over 2 years old at that time, but anyway he served his time and came back strong, and Roger Goodell had to hand the patriots the Lombardy trophy and Tom his Super Bowl MVP trophy, while he got booed by everyone. Also, something else that made this game special for Tom was that his mom was in attendance, and that was her first game all year due to her battling cancer for many months prior. They ended up losing the Super bOWL THE VERY next year in a thriller, but they came back and won the next one after that, so yeah I think we can all agree Brady was right when he told Robert Kraft that he would be the best decision the Patriots ever made. The guy is such a legend, the only Athlete I hold on a pedastal higher than Brady´s is Messi.

So many questions. Lol. This is the Superbowl. The AFC Champs play the NFC Champs for the Title. The Falcons have never won a Superbowl. The Patriots have won six, all in the past 20 years. The short kick is an "on side" kick which is anyone's ball once it travels ten yards. During punts and kick offs, that's the "Special Team", which is different than Offence and Defense. After every touchdown, you have the choice of a one point, or two point extra point. The two point conversion is a higher risk and doesn't happen as often. Welcome to the American Football rabbit hole. It may consume your life. Lol

Technically, Atlanta is the "home team" based on position on the scoreboard, but this game was played in Houston's stadium. The stadium is determined far in advance, so a team could end up playing the Super Bowl in their stadium. Doesn't necessarily mean they'd be the home team though, and could be the "away team" while playing in their stadium during the Super Bowl.

The odds of the Patriots coming back from that deficit in that amount of time is like 1,000,000 to 1 i would say. Something like that. But.. Tom Brady is arguably considered the best Quarterback and one of the best athletes period to ever play any game. You put any other QB in that position that New England was in... They wouldn't be able to do it. Obviously the defense did a lot too which is understated, but Brady was always the team leader.
For the books, Tom Brady was on the Patriots for 20+ years. In his career he won 7 super bowls (more than any NFL FRANCHISE/TEAM has, that's right, one man has more than any single team). He's the only QB to win multiple super bowls over the age of 40. He holds the highest stats all time in most every possible category for his position. And much more. For all intents and purposes, he's the GOAT of football. Think of him like Michael Jordan, but for Football

You two are adorable. I just subscribed. Glad you got to watch the greatest football player to ever play win his 5th superbowl. He was 40 years old. He went on to win two more superbowls after this one to bring his total to 7. The closest quarterback to him has only 4 superbowl wins in 4 tries. Tom Brady went to 10 superbowls and won 7. He retired at the age 45. He will be missed.

Where the Superbowl is played is determined before the season even starts. It wasn't until 3 years later that a team playing in the Superbowl actually played in their own stadium (Tampa Bay Buccaneers). It was the first time in NFL history that happened and Tom brady (the quarterback to the white team your watching) was traded to that team that year. He now has more Superbowl rings then any other TEAM in the NFL. More playoff wins then any other player in history and best playoff record....just to name a few of his records.

The white team's quarterback, Tom Brady is the best in sport. He's one of the highest paid in the NFL. Tom Brady has a contract with the Buccaneers this year for $41 million. He's won 7 Super Bowl's, more than any player NFL history. He's almost guaranteed to in the NFL Hall of Fame as soon as he retires.
