Right at the start, you can hear Jenny contemplating the suggestion that one of the Supernatural boys is the smart one... then she correctly rejects that idea as ridiculous, based solely on screenshots.
Sam was supposed to be the smart one since he went to Stanford in the first episode. Then there were 15 seasons of BS
@@havinagoodtime9733 I've only watched a bit of the show and I was bothered by the fact that it seems to be set up for Sam to be the smart one and Dean to be the cool one... but then in practice it seemed like Dean was the cool one, the smart one, the brave one, the funny one... and, like, Sam was there too.

As someone who watched the first 2 seasons, Sam felt like he was set up to be the smart one, but then they decided he would be the whiny one at about the 5 minutes mark of episode one.
someone on tumblr once described Supernatural as "Redneck Dragon Ball Z" where it uses the same classic shonen anime approach of "hero faces unbeatable opponent, hero gets tougher, hero learns secret technique or finds weapon to beat the unbeatable opponent, then a new even more unbeatable-er opponent shows up and SURPRISE that new cool weapon or secret technique doesn't work anymore and you have to find a new one." and it really tracks.
They fight the devil, then they fight the devils eviler cousin, Phil.
And they kept it going so long it escalated all the way from "a demon" to "God". At a certain point demons just become meaningless fodder when they were once a serious threat.
this is also true about the vampire diaries... as i learned from jenny's video and then from watching most of it (due to jenny's video)
redneck dragon ball z seems like it would be more popular...
Jenny got weirdly on-point with some things like Castiel being a half-season character that people unexpectedly liked (though I don't personally think that Misha Collins is an especially bad actor compared to anyone else in the show), and that there were a variety of "different genres of women" who show up for a bit but don't really get to do all that much in the end.
The thing that made me depressed was the part where she assumed CW added female characters & the fandom never responded positively to them, when in fact the writers of the show simply killed off all those characters as quickly as possible. I'm sure Charli only became popular because she didn't die at the end of her episode.
@@samrobotsinCharlie was popular because Felicia Day was nerd queen at the height of her popularity and power. She could pretty much show up in any sci fi show and be adorkable.
Could be a combination of having existed on Tumblr and knowing how intensely the shippers got into Castiel, and just generally understanding how CW shows do with female characters. Or new characters who don't fit a popular 'ship.

Yeah, that's exceedingly true. Sometimes a woman would stick around a while but OF COURSE she wasn't going to be a viable love interest because THE WRITERS DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WITH HER.

As someone that only watched 4 or 5 episodes of _Supernatural_ in my whole life I can attest that Jenny may had gotten the plot of the show wrong, but she nailed the vibe perfectly
As someone who's seen every episode of Supernatural, Jenny gave the main characters way more characterization in this video than the show does over the course of 15 years

She really nailed how the new female characters in season two went, and how Castiel happened.
I lost it at the "Get Along Shirt."
When she started talking about season 2 with the girl, I forgot that this is her talking about something she's never seen before (I also have never seen it) and her conviction was so good I thought i was just listening to someone recount what happens in the show

Last week I was at a furry convention in a hotel, but on a different floor of the hotel a Supernatural convention was happening at the same time. Misha, Jensen, and Jared were all in the same building as hundreds of furries and I really like thinking about that
supernatural conventions are still happening wtf??
I love the explanation of the CW's comphetitude in desperately trying to make the boys date a women and failing each time.
For anyone wondering, Misha Collins is actually a great actor, they just wrote Castiel to be an absolute freak.
They try to justify it long after the fact but it still makes no sense why he's the only angel who's _like that_
I always kind of liked him but it was super weird that most of the other angels just acted "normal" as if we hadn't just watched Castiel acting like my autistic ass all over the place.
Castiel - "I have grasped you from perdition."
Metatron - "God is a bitch and I hate my job."
The best part of it was Misha thinking Cas was going to be in only a few episodes and making that gravelly tone Cas' voice because he thought it was a short job. Only for him to be stuck doing it for 11 years

I love this. I've never watched the show, so this could honestly have been spot on as far as I know. Having Karina as the shipper was hilarious, and I loved your zombie cameo. And there's just something about an 80's aerobics Mothman!

I haven't cared about Supernatural in like over a decade, and yet still got immediately salty when she said Misha Collins couldn't act.
Cas/Misha is like the only part of SPN I still cherish
Calling Cas "the angel who can't act" is *super* galling because Misha Collins is, by a country mile, the best, most versatile actor on the show.
All the times he had to be a a different guy wearing the same face he really showed that he completely can knock it ouf of the park. Like, mental hospital cas was just sad and Lucifer cas was scary. Alternate reality cas was... weird and jimmy was just a pious guy. Brainwashed cas had me on my effin toes.
The pavlovian response left in me that I still get the inexplicable urge to clap and cheer whenever I see Cas on screen, or on any media.

The funny thing is the female fan base hated any female characters even BEFORE cas showed up, maybe even with more passion, because 1.) they shipped THEMSELVES with the boys 2.) good old fashioned 2005 internalized misogyny 3.) well. there is another ship they had that girl characters would get in the way of. there are only two main characters and they are brothers. and yet.
It didn't help that the female characters tended to be WRITTEN with a lot of that misogyny in mind.

I dunno I used to watch this actually live on cable before streaming was a thing and I LOVED Lisa (and the kid) and never understood why they wrote her out

If I was a writer for supernatural, I'd just straight up troll the audience by writing a new love interest action girl, and then wait for the fandom to hate them, but then after dropping a bunch of hints I'd have the new character come out as trans and start presenting as male. Then imply that one of the boys still has feelings for him, and watch the fandom explode as the character they'd initially hated blindly is now the canonical gay male love interest that the fandom has wanted for so long.
That would be pretty genius. But do you really think the showrunners who had the angel who can’t act confess his love for one of the brothers and at the tail end of the show and immediately send him to superhell afterwards would be THAT progressive?
I have never watched Supernatural so im just gonna believe this is the real plot and base all of my knowledge on Supernatural off of it

Everyone in the comments roasting Jenny for how wrong her take on the show is, where I have never seen a solitary frame of Supernatural and have never been on tumblr. Jenny has infinitely more experience with the franchise than I have, and if I had heard this in another context I'd absolutely believe it's accurate.
My history with SPN usually causes me to cringe whenever faced with thinking about it. This managed to be incredibly cathartic. It’s like Jenny rewrote my pain.

Why is supernatural so perfect for taking the piss out of? This is great. Also, this video made me sad that Grim Beard's series Darkened Streams, where he reviewed every episode of Supernatural in order, had to get booted to a secondary channel and stopped due to CW copyright striking it. The cowards at CW couldn't handle high art being accidentally born from one of their shows.

I used to watch the show with my mom, but eventually got...pretty behind and just did not finish it. Jenny may not have gotten the plot points right but she *nailed* the vibes of the show.
I think Smosh summed up Supernatural in there if tv shows were real. “We’re hot.” “We don’t need a plot.” The brothers have their shirts off during that joke just for fan girl bait.
To this day I've never seen Supernatural and the only Misha Collins performance I've seen is him making "pasta with jam sauce" with his kid so I cannot confirm or deny the accuracy of this summary.
