Upgrading from 3900 to zen 3 won't be much of an upgrade. Fps will not be that considerable, thus expense on a new zen is for people who got money to burn
@@1965kings yeah makes no sense for him to upgrade but it's definitely a bottleneck compared to 5900X or even i9-10900K. It fits on the same board so if I was him, being able to afford an RTX 3090, then I'd definitely sell the 3900X for a 5900X. He'd probably lose about $250 doing that.

Hey X-CHECK. I always enjoy your videos. Interesting observation there with FS. Ok, so the 3090 is able to flex when outside of the aircraft where it would seem directx is able to pump lots of data through the GPU, which is why you get double the fps compared to the 1080. The moment you switch to the cockpit, the CPU comes into affect. All of those gauges are working the CPU hard so that you are CPU limited. The GPU is irrelevant when CPU limited. My conclusion would be. Get a very high Mhz CPU (on the single core) with as many cores/threads as possible (ie 5800X/5900X or intel i9 10900K). Also the data flow speed to your SSD and RAM needs to be very high as well to keep up with the CPU and GPU. Just my two cents :)
What would be great to see is what would happen if you had a Ryzen 5800X/5900X/5950X or an Intel 10900K and a Geforce GTX 1080. Data wise the CPU would be doing a good job but what would directx and the 1080 do with it?
Exactly! Also lowering the refresh rate of the gauges will help a lot in the meantime. The sim should be able to multithread more when they switch to DX12.

CPU is the limiting factor on the sim.... i have complained about this since before launch when i was in the alpha test but they choose to rush the sim out with the numerous technical issues it has.
a little bit of a useless comparison don't you think? FS2020 is pretty much CPU bound at the moment. You will have to wait for DX12 support to get an idea about the performance of the cards.

There is no way I'm investing in a £1500+ card for under 30fps on 1440p. This card is was designed for 4k, you won't really see the benefits otherwise. That bottleneck needs addressing though, it would have been helpful to see the in-game settings so we can see what is being asked of the GPU/CPU.

I'm starting to think that chasing more and more resolution to get the clarity necessary for suspension of disbelief is a fool's errand. Alternate technology like rapid shifting of the display to blur the screen door into non-existence is the way to go. We are not going to get to the point where we have enough compute and rendering power to do what we want within a money and power budget in the near future.
He runs it with a R9 3900x, which is great for multitasking but in comparison to the new gen and even intel slow per core. MSFS has a main thread that needs especially one very fast core, that the 3900x cannot deliver sufficiently... and the Infinity fabric and ram are creating additional latency here, too.
@@rakon8496 exactly, I've seen a lot of people going out and buying the biggest core count CPUs for games, not really understanding that it really won't make much of a difference past 4 cores for all games. Most won't even use more than 1.
Didn't say that. Most games are today fine with 4 cores/8th, yeah. You won't find modern games using just 1 core. And MSFS isn't as most other games as so much going on... u need 1 very fast core, but you need many parallel threads doing the work. Sweet spot should be 8c/16th... But you don't need 12 or 16 cores for sure... there is a video of a guy buying even a threadripper for MSFS. Bad waste of money for nothing...

Great demonstration and flying. First question is what do you think? You obviously picked up a lot although I'm surprised how well the old card actually does. Are you happy with the upgrade? Second. I'm new to this. From what I've read the GPU should be running at or near 100%. Your 3090 was consistently running in the mid 60 to 70% range. I take that as an indicator that it is the CPU that is bottle necking the GPU and not the ordinary lag in the program. The CPU spits out frames for the GPU. Correct??? The GPU will only process the frames it receives? Is that correct? The new card runs cooler and uses less ram. You barely break 16K so temp and ram are not slowing you down. I have a built computer ordered with a 3070 and as I said I'm trying to figure out all this stuff.

I have a G2 and a 3090, I can say that it is incredible, without equal. The G2 is the best you can buy but, of course, it is almost mandatory to have an RTX 3080 or 3090 to have the best look that exists today for consumption. I had an RTX 2070 Super and with the G2 it was not bad but with the 3090 it is fluid and with image quality.
