    Started my first ever deadening job on a Kona EV today. Watching your video at 0.25 speed helped a lot to figure out some tricky spots. Managed to finish the roof. Floor tomorrow. Thank you :)

      Awesome! Glad to be of assistance. My suggestion: do a 2nd layer on the roof, especially if you don't have a sunroof. I ended up going back and putting 3 layers total (2 butyl, 1 foam) on the roof and it was significantly noticeably better than the original single layer.

      I did 1 butyl and 1 ccf for now. I have a rugpad felt that I want to slide in between the ccf and the roof trim later. Don't think i would be able to do another butyl above head. My arms were like overcooked spaghetti yesterday

    Excellent work! The roof is often an ignored area where lots of noise hangs around. This should help with rain/wind and road noise.

    Do you have a video of how you removed the center console?

    • @Bythirteen

      like in detail, no. It's just a center console, nothing fancy.

    Quite overkill, but may as well while youre in there! Noticable difference in audio quality, and NV?

    Fabulous job, can you advise if any hidden screw in the flat gear panel which you lift up at 0117 or just only clips pried up from the edges, I try to pry it up but it stays firm, thank you!

    • @Bythirteen
      @Bythirteen  Рік тому

      that center console gear selector trim panel just hasta be yanked upwards, or you can crowbar at it, whatever it takes, it's Hyundai tight: goes together quick and easy but not necessarily fun to take back apart.

    Great stuff. Looks like Kona got no (or just a little) sound proofing? Looking forward for doors video!

      It has precisely how much I'd expect from an economy car. Let's be clear: damping material costs money and if ya wanna keep a production car cheap, that's a reasonable way to accomplish that goal!

  • @lobbert

    Could you explain how to NOT crack the passenger side rear quarter panel when taking it apart?

    • @Bythirteen
      @Bythirteen  8 місяців тому +2

      lolol, but I don't have any experience with NOT cracking it!!
      nahhh, you just gotta be gentle, a long pry tool helps but isn't necessary. Get all the easy accessible poppers around the perimeter, apply even pressure from as far inward as you can reach, it'll come free no problem. Me breaking it was a direct result of just going aggressive since I didn't care in the rear of the vehicle. The back half of that car is a pickup truck bed to me so it's already been destroyed way worse from hauling materials than a single little crack from this disassembly.

    What about at the steering column? I can feel cold air coming in from there, so I know it brings in sound!

    As for all Hyundai Techs like myself. PLEASE Remove the dampner over the HV Emergency shut-off lid under the backseat. Just cut around it and remove it from the lid. We have to take the safety out when performing work on the HV system..

      @@Bythirteen its an Hyundai Kona EV. What about when the speed reducer or engine goes to shit? That’s warranty, and not something you want to pay for (expensive as fuck). And fairly easy for us techs to change, I’ve done about 17 engines on the facelift Kona EV. They go bad 🤷🏼‍♂️

    My fear would be having a few spare items once I’d reassembled and the fear of introducing a new squeak or creak to the car when driving it.

    • @Bythirteen
      @Bythirteen  3 місяці тому

      Even if you don't do anything, your car is going to develop new squeaks and creaks. The thing is 90% plastic. Might as well make em quieter.
