I tried many times to start them as well. An old timer told me to put seeds in a vice and take a hacksaw to two edges, then sprout in soil. We have the largest tree of this kind in our little city. My grandkids like them for shooting with the wrist rocket's . FYI, they will break windows. I'm from lovely western Nebraska.
That’s amazing information !! We have a couple trees around our small town here in Eastern Ontario I will not let my son shoot any seeds at the windows !! Thank you for the heads up
I had to do the same thing with black locust seeds but with sandpaper...I went right down to the green and they came up in no time at all. I used to live near Cornwall not to far from where you are. I enjoy your videos, keep them coming.
I put them in a vice and hit the seed with a hacksaw a few times. The funny thing is the trees i get my seeds from have loads of small sampling growing under then, i think the lawn mowers they use to cut the gras nick the seeds.
Hi, I've grown these for a few years and I have used cement to get through the outer skin but I've also used a drill with a sanding stone and a belt sander. Once you're through the outer brown layer and see the lighter colored inside layer then I stop and soak them in water for 24 hours.

I was going through the EXACT same process and had no idea how to get mine to germinate until I found your video! Thank you so much, excellent job 👍

That’s a great idea. Sounds easier
