@@Vercingetorix.Rising Part of this song makes me think of Alice in Chains, a grunge rock going harsher, sludgier, actually more somber, especially those guitar squeals and larsens. Obviously, there's always that instinct that if something is awesome and available, "Why didn't we have it sooner?? Why didn't we have it right AWAY?!!", but I gotta say, I remember when this popped up around 2001/02, and for a band that had been defunct for almost 10 years at that point, having not some obscure 'boombox demo', but a fully fledged full-band studio recording of an UNHEARD Nirvana song...and one of their strongest tunes, at that...was pretty mind-blowing
justarandomguy Yeah, I know...she insisted it being a 'single', on a greatest hits record, that it would be 'wasted' on a compilation album...but ultimately, what I'm saying is that I'm glad it came so much later, as it was like an undiscovered treat
Lynn Schmitt Oh I agree, 100%. The "Courtney" card gets way overplayed as far as Kurt goes, but this is one case where I think it's safe to say the song is, at least in part, about her. And much like "Forever in debt to your priceless advice..." in 'Heart Shaped Box', this line is dripping with sarcasm...kind of sister songs actually, now that I think about it. Still think it's strange to think of as a "perfect break up song", though...I would think that award would go to either a depressing, my-heart-is-broke song, or a fuck-you-anyway-im-doing-fine tune
Hey, you read my mind. See what you mean about this not being a great breakup song. Suppose it would be more of a final straw song, one you'd be singing on your way out of a bad relationship. I'm never good enough for you, you like it that way because you'll always be on your damn pedestal, always right. This relationship was doomed from the start, so I'll leave you alone. No matter to you whether I stay or go, you've always loved yourself the most. Keep your heart shaped box, all of your words, your self righteousness, your façade so you can feel good and safe. You don't want me, need me, I'm just a body to you, might as well not be here, so I'll crawl away for good. Yeah, you've got it, depressed, hurt, tired and pissed off. :)
Wow, the theme song for the History Channel TV series "Vikings" is remarkably and completely lifted from the chorus of Nirvana's posthumously released song "You Know You're Right."
Melody is almost note for note exactly the same. "You know you're right" written 1993 by Nirvana, bootleg live version from Aragon Ballroom, Chicago out since 1993. Nirvana studio version, the last song recorded by Nirvana in studio before Cobain died, was released in 2002. Fever Ray used the same melody of Native American Indian chant for "If I Had A Heart," for debut album in 2008. Umm... yeah. Play them and A/B compare.
Kurt Cobain as been dead for 20 years now and I still member him. In fact my heart still bleeds a little as I listen to this but I'm glad in a way because it helps me remember him from time to time even though he as been gone for 20 years.
Easier to fold than push back Easier to tell her she’s right Easier to capitulate than box Easier to end the struggle than battle on But then again ......it’s easier to ease & finish with the pain the hard way but what if U find out they’ve were right & U were wrong & there’s another day with another way to play & deal with the pain . Because after all ......U know Your right
That's something I noticed about this song. Sounds COMPLETELY different in comparison to anything else they made, even Kurt's tapes/songs that were excluded from CD's and main releases.
read 'love&death, the murder of kurt cobain'. the world needs to know that the 'suicide note' wasnt even a suicide note at all. it was a letter explaining why he was quitting nirvana. The last 4 lines was written by courtney love.
Tom Grant has been accusing Courtney Love for 20 years, and courtney never sued him. But everyone else that crosses her path, she sues...ISNT THAT FUNNY?!
Well Kurt killed himself/was killed and honestly it's hard to find someone that sings exactly like him. People wanted Kurt, not another person. The best example of this is with sublime. After brad died, they got another singer to keep the band going and changed the name to sublime with Rome. Not a lot of people like it, look it up, the band has a lot of hate now and people don't really enjoy Rome because he doesn't produce songs like brad did, and people want brad.
If he was murdered that's unfortunate. I don't really believe he was killed, but if he was, whoever did it got away with it and they're pretty shitty to fuck with a guy going through so much.
This song was never on a album because he died it was about his leaving cortney she heard that song and had him killed most of his songs were about her but never one about leaving her until this one
My mom would play this SO loud in the kitchen while doing dishes when I was little. Came back to get some good memories.

Such an underrated song. One of Kurts best. Love the prayer bell effect he created on the bridge of his guitar... no one had ever done that before
