I'm so dumb man, I thought my locker wasn't fitting, but I wasn't aware you aren't supposed to re-use the old shims. It came with no instructions.. Time to take the diff cover back off. Appreciate the content!!!
Same thing I did. Removed the shims on both axle that was behind the outer portions of the locker assembly and it went together. I used elite gears on mine though
How weird i have a 96 dodge Dakota i installed a spartan locker in the rear axle its a 8.25..but i did not use the axle cap i think it called the center thing in the sparten locker..but mine works good..i was not able to fit the center pin with the center caps in their i even took a grinder too the center pin..so i just took out the center caps and boom the center pin fit been almost 2 yrs now its still in my truck now..
@@thomaskemp966 I did change out the carrier when I regeared but it should not effect the locker fitment. Where exactly is it not fitting? Be sure you remove all shims as well.
@ I did after looking to everything further I realized that I have a posi trac rearend and not an open diff. We didn’t think anyone before me had messed with anything but of course didn’t realize till after we took everything apart while I’m in there I guess I’m gonna change the friction pads
Probably a stupid question. My 99 xj front dana 30 has a spartan locker. I need to ball joints. Do the axle shaft just slide right out? Or will rhe locker fall at all inside the diff? C-clips on shaft? Don't want to rip it apart without knowing i have everything i need. It's my daily
@@jeremiahdelossantos3035 The axle shafts should just slide right out on the Dana 30. There are no inner c clips cause the unit bearing is what holds the axle in. The locker if installed properly should be held in place pretty well and there should be no issues with the locker falling apart inside the diff when you remove the axles. Here is a link to a video where I install a spartan in a Dana 30 if it helps more. Installing A Spartan Lunchbox Locker Into My Jeep Cherokee XJ ua-cam.com/video/d4XN5YdzmP4/v-deo.html
How many shims were removed from the axle shaft spider gears? I removed one shim from each side, once I completed my installation the gap was smaller than .145, however the locker still ratchets when the wheels are turned opposite ways.
@@stevemungarro2713i did the same thing. Locker would not work. Two different lockers and two different diff housings. The gap was smaller than .145 on both. Using no shims

Great video on the pre-install and under vehicle steps. What did you use for assembly lube? Thanks.
A healthy amount of gear oil and lithium assembly grease. amzn.to/4bDwVDd

@@valleycatx2 It was a bit of a pain to put together, but it seems to be working for me.
I wouldn't recommend daily driving with the rear locked, unless you live somewhere that doesn't get much snow....
We don't often get snow but I haven't noticed any issues driving in it so far when we do.
What the?! Why? Works great in snow
