Jon, OMG, I knew we had a modeling connection in some time line, My first kit was also the P6E I remember the emerald green plastic and Talon decals. It would definitely be great to gave two of the kits, one to get a preliminary feel for the build then one to build the super detail. Unless you're a Doolittle aficionado people remember him most for the Doolittle Raid. However, like Curtis and Lindbergh he was a natural born flyer Great video Cheers Bob.
Nice video,Jon! Always loved this plane..even have a tiny Christmas ornament of it. I don't know what it is about your vids, but even after spending crazy money on e Bay this week...you still find something else I want...
I’m not 100% sure, but it might actually be the first injection molded kit produced in the U.S. It was originally produced in black tenite plastic before switching to an orange yellow acetate plastic in 1946. The kits with wheels are very hard to find. I recently got lucky in finding one, and I may never build it since it is likely nearly 80 years old.
Looks like a fun little build with plenty of potential. Does the kit show it's age? In many ways it does but if one puts in the effort a cracking looking build will emerge. Part of the fun as I've gotten older is doing some research into what I'm building. I most certainly look forward to seeing your finished build of this model. Another first class video Jon!👍👍
Great subject Jon! Love the racing planes of the 30’s. One of the first biplane kits I had. Testors had a series of these kits and the supermarine sea racer was the other one I built. I agree the color call outs in the instructions are quite misleading. I remember the rigging giving me fits but turned out ok considering it was my first attempt back in the day. Thanks!
GOOD MORNING It’s 7:14 am OHIO time… Talk about something SIMPLE To be honest, these are the types of kits that are the most challenging…. DETAILING the Cockpit The Rigging ??????? The most detailing is the painting…. You can get a tool from MICRO MARK to put rivets on it… Of course being a Racing Plane , it might be more streamlined ?????????????? I WOULD TAKE THIS KIT ON I like detailing cockpits , and I’ve Rigged a few Bi-Planes ( stretch sprue ) This was different , I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with this, I like the COLORS… I see a diorama with the aircraft is sitting on a boat ramp waiting to go into the water , my imagination is going 😂😅😂….. You have my like 👍 JIMMY DOOLITTLE WOULD BE PROUD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MODEL ON ……….. CHRIS 🇺🇸
Hello from Yuma Az! Another fine video! I dig the prototype photos! And the history of the bird. Great pix of the cockpit. I have one in my stash that's going in a dock scene with the old Hawk Super Marine S-6 racer, a Testors pt-19, on floats as camera plane and a Monogram Kingfisher as rescue plane and Monogram Pro-Modeler field equipment set with fuel tank and pump, battery carts and a Navy tow tug. Jon, you seem to have the knack of picking subjects everyone has fond memories of modeling. Looking forward to the reveal video. Take care to all and ........................... MODEL ON!!
Another one of my favorites for simplicity The LINDBERG 1/48 Curtis GOSHAWK Bi-Plane… You can get decals for the U.S.S. Saratoga or the U.S.S. Lexington The 30s aircraft were very colorful….. For some reason recently I looked at the LINDBERG 1/72 Curtis HELLDIVER and the KINGFISHER… Both are simple kits, just screaming for DETAILS….. I’m Ranting 😂😅😂 THANKS. CHRIS 🇺🇸
@@chrispacer4231 Right on, Chris! I still can't figure out who did the color research on this kit. I guess it was before the age of the internet. It looks like a fun little kit regardless. Cheers!

@c123bthunderpig Thanks, Bob! As with most builds/reviews, the research was fun on this one. I still need to build another P6E someday. Cheers!
Some of these old kits of 1930's air racing planes are fun to build!

@@stevecausey545 Thanks, Steve! I know the feeling. There's always the kit we don't currently have out there tempting us 😅!
@@jonsmodelkitreview4624 a few hours ago I got the hawk Laird solution..it comes with a pylon display stand!
Most modelers don't realize how far back this kit goes. The land Racer was released by Hawk in 1946. First re-issued as the seaplane in 1961.
Thanks for the info, Stuart! I had no idea it was that old. Cheers!
