Watching this, while wearing mine.. I have mine for 2 years now. But I am still amaze, everytime i wear it.. It's really a fantastic watch, and not so expensive. ⌚😎
Take notice Seiko, this is how it is done. A great automatic with a great movement for an attractive price! Thanks for the review! Stunning watch, by the way!
I will never dive with a Swiss watch, but my citizen is made for the sea. Great practical lum. I logged over 300 deep dives with my citizen exceeding 150ft. Never an issue.
The Coke on a red strap would look wonderful. I’m not sure about Citizen being un-noticed…they sell more watches than Seiko every year. Love that watch. Nice purchase.
I love the Promaster NY00XX series. I have the full lume dial, but all are real stunners. The Citizen strap will break in after a while. Just a fun fact, the Italian Marines used this Promaster for a while and it’s ISO certified. It’s 200m water resistance but it can go till 500m. Perfect review again, Peter!
Beautiful! I am a Seiko fanboy, but I own three Citizens. In contrast to Seiko, I can honestly say that Citizen’s QC is perfect. Moreover, on my Eco-Dive models, the seconds hand hits the indexes perfectly. My wife’s daily Eco-Drive has been going for more than twenty years, without a service. There is so mush to like here. Thanks for the review, Peter.
Good to hear. Got an Eco-drive Diver last year and absolutely loving it - on wrist accuracy of 0.5 sec per month (E168 mvt). Remarkable for the price of £180 or around $220 USD.
Got mine in a Pepsi from Starbuy last week. It was on special for AUD199. The stainless steel bracelet was comfortable but cheap looking. Replaced with an FKM type strap. Now, for the surprise. The dial said "8203 Movement". The case back said "8204". The new models have the 8204 movement - hacking and winding. Leaves the SKX for dead. Looks good and has great wrist presence. At this time, it's running at +5.5spd.
I too purchased the exact same watch after watching this video last year and put on a similar rubber band with ‘port holes’. It also has 8203 on dial and 8204 on case! SWEET! Sorry Pete that yours is earlier version, still a gorgeous watch no matter what…cheers!
Citizen seems to be under rated. They make very accurate watches, I love my GMT dive rated titanium Promaster,+2seconds a day right out off the box.Sappire crystal and very comfortable, magnified date, coin edge bezel.
Your video nudged me over the edge to purchase this watch. And I also heeded your suggestion to swap in the black Borealis strap. Absolutely love both! Thanks for the quality video.

He never had to service it. That watch is almost as old as me and it still tick away perfectly. Honestly, if you need a watch for work, you get a Citizen. They might not be for everyone, but they sure as hell won’t let you down.
Wonderful review! Citizen watches started my watch collecting journey and I've had (and still have) several. I agree, some of their offerings don't get the love they deserve. This is a great diver, the quartz variant is solid as well (I have one - certified diver and built like a tank!). Thanks so much and great, if unplanned, addition to the collection!

I got the blue dial NY0040 last summer. The perfect collection starter. Wears great and is just quirky enough to be different from the hundreds of SKX clones.
I have NY-0040 (all black) and it is my daily driver last 8 month's. It holds +/- 3 sec/day but mostly better than that. Bought a Borealis Boavista strap when I saw yours review of strap. Great combination.
Peter, while so many reviewers focus on the specs of watches, you are one of the few who talk about what really draws us in: the aesthetics. I wonder if after a year you still feel the same about this watch. I fell for the NY0040 a while back after catching a view of it at an angle on someone’s wrist. I ended up purchasing both the black and fully lumed versions. I tried these on my wrist next to the NY0085 “coke” you reviewed here and it’s hard to overstate the effect that the subtle differences made. The NY0040 and NY0085 are essentially the same watch. The only differences are in the color of the lume, the font size & color on the bezel, and some minor differences in the text on the dial. While the black NY0040 felt more rugged (probably due to the larger font), the NY0085 felt a bit more refined. The lume on the NY0040 has a greenish hue that pushes strap choices toward olive and black; and who can say why a shark mesh bracelet looks so beautiful (IMO) on the fully lumed NY0040? This video has me longing for that NY0085 I let go of back then. You’ve just about pushed me over the edge towards another purchase! Two thumbs up on that engineer’s bracelet pairing. Keep up the good work. Your love for the hobby comes through in your presentation.
Agreed, this review is focused more on the emotional response and that feeling in the belly when you see a watch, and less on the specs. After all, isn't that what this hobby is really all about?
Great review thanks. I found one today by accident in a jewelry shop window on sale for $299 Aussie , I was actually looking for an Eco Drive diver but really like this instead.
Very nice to feature this Peter. A (devout ) Citizen ad has his shop where I take my watches a short walk away - his shop window is like a candy store and I pass it much too often ^^
I’ve been considering the Coke or Pepsi of these Cirizens for a while. Thanks for the review - good to get insight from a trusted channel. Also, presenting the unit on the variety of straps is really helping me form my opinion.
I love the design! Even tho I ended up getting the Eco Drive brother to this one I am really fond of this retro feel this design offers. Takes me right back to my childhood, with three of my uncles diving they all had their Citizen dive watches and they just stuck with me. To me this comes alive on a marine nationale style strap. I liked my square G a lot for its comfort and now I can't stand wearing it anymore as the Citizen is so much more comfortable on that strap. Also the crystal being just a hair beneath the bezel insert has got me through a year in the workshop with nothing but one tiny scratch, wich is impressive for a mineral crystal!
I have one as well, really happy with it :) looks great in NATO, leather, Oyster bracelet and rubber strap. The left hand crown is a nice detail that prevents it digging into the hand
Awesome watch. Love the Lefty crown. Citizen focus is now on Eco Drive. They are making less and less Automatics. I believe Citizen Autos will be very collectible in time.
Hey Hi Peter, Awesome review and agree this watch is amazing value and looks perfect!... The Wow factor if you will....It's funny how the mind works we can see something and wrestle within sometimes... do we really like it or is it worth the money, etc...These days for me it's about the "Wow factor" and not having to rationalize more than what is logical or wise...Bang!! it hits you and this watch does as a piece of Creative Art!... Citizen has always been in the shadow of seiko and their many accomplishments however that doesn’t mean that Citizens hasn’t made excellent watches throughout the years; from the leopards and 7 stars to these pro master diver. A really excellent brand.
Great vid mate. I just picked up the green bezel version for a steal. Bought it because i like it. I was looking for a no nonsense tool watch to wear everyday on the work site. Owned more than my farir share of Seikos, but never a citizen Auto. Seiko seem to be more interested in aggressively moving up price tiers and offerring less value these days. Im Very inpressed with this little citizen. Is it perfect? Of course not. Is it perfect for its purpose?....resounding yes!.
Another fantastic video. I have been looking at getting a Citizen for my collection. I am a sucker for a great diver. This might be the one. Thanks Pete
I just had to say Thanks again after watching this video when you originally posted it I started my search to find mine and ended up buying a Heimdallr with great specs already for my project @175$ and the coke bezel insert of Ebay bingo I now have a watch I'm extremely happy with although the decent supplied was a bit sharp along the bottom edge but still wears fine on my 7inch wrist really appreciate your fantastic high quality content Thanks my friend 👍
Peter, please keep doing such videos: you share so much passion with us so i'm literally charged to live and see the beauty of the world (including hardcrafted) in details. Peace ;)
Hiya Pete! This is an absolutely great watch. So much to like about it, the case finishing is outstanding which really comes across on the video. I also love the colour scheme, the hands and the dial, which has just the right amount of writing on it. Citizen is a strongly underrated brand. If it just weren't for thus weird crown position at 8 o'clock which doesn't come in handy imo as you have to hold the watch update down to operate it. Cheers mate!
I just bought my first Citizen Promaster eco drive on black friday. It hasn't been delivered yet but I'm so looking forward to it. I'm new to watch collecting and can't afford the higher end stuff. I have the Casio Duro mdv-106 and I love it!
I've had this Citizen watch for a year or two now, it is my daily wearer. Previously I had a Seiko SKX007J. The accuracy of the Seiko was quite bad and required constant adjusting - eventually the thread on the crown wore out. This Citizen Promaster has great accuracy for an automatic watch. The 8 OClock crown is also fantastic, I do a lot of bike riding and having the crown on the other side means the back of my hand does not get constantly bashed by the crown. The only thing I miss about the SKX is the legibility of the white day date wheel - the Citizen Promaster is very hard to read. But all in all, a brilliant watch. Thanks for the great video!
I really wanted the Coke version. But my son convince me to go Pepsi just because I have NO blues dial watches. In the USA, you almost HAVE to buy Eco-Drive. I wanted Automatic, and Left Handed screw down. My last Citizen diver I bought was 12 years ago, and I just had to have a new capacitor put in it. Now its good for another 12 years. Citizen Promaster with Minotaur drives are awesome. I was tempted to order FUGU… but, maybe on our next trip to Asia. Nice watch…congrats.
Hey Peter, thanks for the lovely video. I got this one today for $229 from ICE Jewellery. Was looking for Citizen NY0120 at a deal, but stumbled upon this one. It looks far better than the NY0120.
It's a really nice watch even if you don't consider the price. my ny0040 runs at +3/day. Judging by reports from other owners I'm pretty sure that citizen either regulates the movements on these models or only uses those that are close to cosc out of the factory.
Watching this, while wearing mine.. I have mine for 2 years now. But I am still amaze, everytime i wear it.. It's really a fantastic watch, and not so expensive. ⌚😎

Great review, i will be buying this watch thanks to your great quality video and information.
Cheers, enjoy it when it arrives
Had a promaster in the mid 90s and it was great, maybe time to look at one again.
I bought one recently with a Pepsi bezel. Got it for $170. Killer price and a great dive watch. Good size too. Wears like a 40mm.
Thanks for sharing..cheers 👍
thanks Peter, i think i may get one of these based on your high praise :)
Peter, please keep doing such videos: you share so much passion with us so i'm literally charged to live and see the beauty of the world (including hardcrafted) in details. Peace ;)
Bless you Anton and thank you for the kind words
Cheers
I bought one for my nephew. When the watch arrived I liked it so much, I decided to order one for myself. It’s a beautiful diver 😂
Awesome! I had one before! I liked it ... flipped it for a Citizen Nighthawk. But I kinda miss this Diver...
I'm left handed and can't praise enough the 8 o'clock crown position. I'd love to see it on more watch brands.
@@michaelhargis7036 No discrimination of left handed people intended. Maybe it would be best if Citizen offered both, 8 o'clock and 4 o'clock?
@@michaelhargis7036 I watched a micro brand video "Jory goodman" and the company offered left or right hand crowns.good effort. I am also a lefty
I really like it to! Good review. I agree on all points made. It's a fun, strikingly handsome watch.
I have this exact model and I love it to bits! The design cues are really special and it has a great character. Mine also ran +2-3sec/day.
A great watch just from the looks of it. I would love to have one of these in due time hopefully.
I just bought my first Citizen Promaster eco drive on black friday. It hasn't been delivered yet but I'm so looking forward to it. I'm new to watch collecting and can't afford the higher end stuff. I have the Casio Duro mdv-106 and I love it!
Great stuff Paul, enjoy it when it arrives
cheers
Hey Ben
Thanks for sharing your experience with both watches
I have both an I totally agree on all aspects you mentioned 👍👍
Cheers
On that engineer bracelet…. Wow. It’s perfect! Just ordered a blue eco (200 m) version and I can’t wait! Thanks for another great video!
🙏
Take notice Sieko...how chapter ring lines up perfectly
Too true😂
Love it, I will definitely grab one
I really wanted the Coke version. But my son convince me to go Pepsi just because I have NO blues dial watches. In the USA, you almost HAVE to buy Eco-Drive. I wanted Automatic, and Left Handed screw down. My last Citizen diver I bought was 12 years ago, and I just had to have a new capacitor put in it. Now its good for another 12 years. Citizen Promaster with Minotaur drives are awesome. I was tempted to order FUGU… but, maybe on our next trip to Asia. Nice watch…congrats.
I own the fully lumed dial version with the upgraded 8204 movement which features hand winding and HACKING! Definitely a real keeper in my collection.
Can I ask where’s did you get the upgraded version ? I only see 8203 versions mostly
Hey Peter, thanks for the lovely video. I got this one today for $229 from ICE Jewellery. Was looking for Citizen NY0120 at a deal, but stumbled upon this one. It looks far better than the NY0120.
brilliant...good find and enjoy 👍
It's a really nice watch even if you don't consider the price. my ny0040 runs at +3/day.
Judging by reports from other owners I'm pretty sure that citizen either regulates the movements on these models or only uses those that are close to cosc out of the factory.
Looks great Peter. I saw a blue one and a green one in titanium + bracelet. I think you can find them at Master In Time.
