Cheers and Happy landings! :)
Great job! Very helpful. No irritating personal considerations, useless "blabla". Just technical stuff. Thank's!
Thank you!
Thank you!
Captain, there’s a question in the quiz “what are the three types of FM positions” and the answer mentioned is “Mixed IRS, GPIRS, Radio” where as in the in the video at 01:28 we can see in the video that it says the 3ways are “Mixed IRS, GPS, Radio”. So which one is true?
Captain as you mentioned DME/DME is not accurate as mixed IRS position. However, In my opinion as far as I have studied DME/DME is considered as the most accurate however, DME may not be available at all flight phases and hence, aircraft relies on IRS and GPS to generate an FM position. In fact IRS error increase with time due schuler effect and its position is compared with GPS whenever it is available. This entirely depnds on which FM position must be considered at a given time at highest priority depends on design logic of FMS. Please correct and udate me If I am wrong or If you have anything to share on this.Regardsshashank
+Shashank Ajnadkar You're not entirely wrong I would say, but thats the whole point, we would look on an entire route for our position update, it turns out that GPIRS is available and highly accurate. At the start of the day the IRS realignment can take it to very high levels of accuracy, so on sectors that aren't long its highly accurate. Besides when you go for DME/DME the errors that effect it are far worse if looking in terms of accuracy. Also we are quite aware of GPS availability across the globe with pin point accuracy and hence the aircraft primarily relies on the mixed IRS.
Merry Christmas
Thank you! :)
