It's always a breath of fresh air every time I see a new cover of this song. Brings me back to the days where DT music was still melodic and awesome + the better times as well. MP would be proud if he sees, man.
Bro... how much talent, effort and love goes into a video like this one. Congrats, that was awesome feom both the playingand recording points of view. If I may, a word of constructive criticism (but subjective, really), I would bash those cymbals less on whatever is not an accent, in order to get even more dynamics. But again, that's just me, this was perfect.
Simply amazing. Note by note, flawless! Saw them play it live in front of 100k person in Rock in Rio, for sure one of the best moments of my entire life. So many memories coming back! Thank you, cheers from Brazil!
You know me & DT...Seriously great job mate. I know this is one of our fav tracks & you've done an awesome job. Well done. (it's one of those tracks that should never end, just keep going..lol)
Dream Theater's original name was Majesty. The song name "Ytse Jam" comes from this name! As for the cover, quite a feat there! Not an easy song to play all the way through in one shot! This is one of my favorite DT songs ever and you nailed it! Cheers bro!
Im a little late but the glass prison this dying soul? either that or as i am, i havent listened to that album much the root of all evil repentance the shattered fortress?
Heh, had to pause overnight, sorry! _Excellent_ job on the end section! Not easy to reinterpret all those fills from the Mirage Monster down to a kit maybe a third its size, heh. Your cymbals are awesome! I _really_ like their look and sound! But missing those cannon drums for a much fuller tonal scale definitely held this one back a bit. Not that you should feel a need to buy tons more drums for a single cover, of course! I did like the reinterpretations. It wound up a bit snare heavy, but I actually found that that called out and emphasized different elements of the other instruments' parts in a way that was interesting. You even got some very Portnoy facial expressions going there! Not enough llama spitting though, so... 4/5 stars. ;) Seriously, great job, man. Definitely enjoyed it, and I'll definitely have to check out more of your covers, especially if you've done songs I know. Dream Theater's social media and fan-engagement game is so weak-sauce, so without many official playthroughs or music videos that actually show the band playing, it's really fun to watch you play through the drum part! Heh, next... think you can tackle Mangini? An all-time favorite of mine for the drumming is Lost Not Forgotten from A Dramatic Turn of Events. I'll give you a tip, even, though I'm not at all expecting you to actually pull it off... those patterns of three and four kicks in the intro that are out of phase with the measures (starting at 1:12)? Those are _two kicks at once_ on two different sized bass drums, not alternating from foot to foot. ;)
Thanks for the kind words and notes dude, I'll definitely take those on board! Lost Not Forgotten is a tune! Very difficult to pull off but I'll definitely give it a go at some point 😊
Not a bad effort so far! (I'm at the slow self-mourning section). I mean, I'm sure you're aware of the imperfections, but I'm not about to pick them apart. Covering Portnoy is _hard_ and you did a credible job of it! Especially nice job in the polyrhythmic section during the second verse inside the mansion ("In barrels filled with wine..."). That's not an easy one, keeping up a very odd time signature with that extra snare hit at the end of every measure, while also keeping up the slow groove on the cymbal and driving the song with the kicks. The only thing that really pulled my ear was the lack of the doubled hi-hat opens at the very beginning.
Majesty
It is beautiful.
❤You are The best.
From Calcinaia, Tuscany
Thank you so much 😊

Thank you very much for the kind words. Admittedly, I do sometimes get a little carried away and overhit the cymbals 😅
Majesty was the first name of the band and Mike’s father suggested the name of Dream Theater.

No one answered, so... Majesty :D and the name Dream Theater was suggested by Portnoy's father
