- In this video, we delve into one of the most profound schools of Indian philosophy-Vedanta. Vedanta is not just a philosophical theory but a spiritual path that addresses life’s biggest questions: “Who am I?” and “What is my purpose?” Based on the final chapters of the Vedas, known as the Upanishads, Vedanta provides deep insights into our existence and the ultimate reality.
What is Vedanta?
Vedanta teaches that everything in the universe stems from one single reality, known as Brahman-the ultimate, unchanging truth. It emphasizes the understanding of Atman-our inner self or soul-as being connected to Brahman. However, due to Maya (illusion) and Avidya (ignorance), we often fail to recognize this connection.
This video focuses on three major schools of Vedanta:
Advaita Vedanta - Non-dualism (explains the unity of Brahman and Atman).
Vishishtadvaita Vedanta - Qualified non-dualism (suggests a unique relationship between Brahman and Atman).
Dvaita Vedanta - Dualism (asserts a fundamental distinction between Brahman and Atman).
Key Concepts:
Advaita Vedanta (Non-dualism):
Advaita, meaning non-dualism, was developed by Adi Shankaracharya. It teaches that there is no real separation between the individual soul (Atman) and the universal soul (Brahman). According to this philosophy, the world as we perceive it is an illusion created by Maya.
When one overcomes this illusion, they achieve Moksha-liberation-and realize the ultimate truth: Atman and Brahman are one and the same.
Vishishtadvaita Vedanta (Qualified Non-dualism):
Vishishtadvaita, founded by Ramanujacharya, accepts the non-duality of Brahman but suggests that individual souls (Atman) maintain their unique identities while being part of Brahman.
In this philosophy, Brahman is considered both Nirguna (without attributes) and Saguna (with attributes). Bhakti (devotion) is emphasized as the path to Moksha.
Dvaita Vedanta (Dualism):
Dvaita, proposed by Madhvacharya, asserts a clear and eternal distinction between Brahman (God) and individual souls. According to Dvaita, the soul is eternally separate from Brahman, and Moksha is achieved through devotion and grace, rather than union with Brahman.
In Dvaita, Brahman is worshipped as Vishnu, and salvation comes through unwavering devotion.
What Will You Learn in This Video?
Brahman and Atman: Understand the relationship between the universal reality and the individual soul in Vedanta.
Maya and Avidya: Explore how illusion and ignorance prevent us from realizing our true self.
Moksha: Learn the Vedantic concept of liberation and how the three schools interpret the path to spiritual freedom.
Self-Realization: Discover how Advaita leads to self-realization by removing the illusion of duality, while Vishishtadvaita and Dvaita take different paths.
Why is This Important?
Vedanta offers a way to transcend the material world and focus on the deeper truth of existence. Whether through non-duality (Advaita), qualified non-duality (Vishishtadvaita), or duality (Dvaita), Vedanta provides insights into achieving inner peace, spiritual freedom, and ultimate liberation (Moksha). Understanding these concepts helps us gain clarity about our role in the universe, guiding us toward a more meaningful life.

Sir, vo brahman nhi, brahm hai
