This was mind altering in a good way for me. Rich Davis recommended your tutorial and it is a game changer! I don't sing, so this opens up the entire library of songs for me. I really like your method of "poking around until you find the right note" - training my ear to hear and know where the notes are. I subscribed to your channel. Thank you for explaining this!!!

Hi Leslie - Thanks so much for your nice comment - it made my day! Glad you enjoyed it. I have just created a "Chord melody" playlist on the channel so if you like this type of thing there are a couple of others on there that might be just what you're looking for. "Basic Chord Melody Tutorial for ukulele" is the most recent one and breaks down one song completely.
      All the best!

This gives me the tools I have been needing to pick through songs an ,add some nice melody.
I didn't know how learning the scales actually would be applied,--it seems so simple now. Thank you for explaining this.

Geez, I do that very thing picking out melodies on piano, but not much on ukulele. I write most of my original tunes on piano then play chords on uke. This is very useful to me.

@@fourstringstrummer Have you thought of posting videos on Facebook? When I do that it brings new people to my channel. Some channels you can post your UA-cam video directly on them. Others you can make comments, post pictures, help people solve problems. I really do appreciate your videos and expect them to help my play.

@@richdavis4007 I haven't set Facebook up for this channel yet Rich. I wanted to get the video process down, work on quality a bit first. Màybe it's time now. I will continue to work on quality as I go. For me part of the issue is having a handle on what is "good enough". I want people to enjoy the video, get a little something out of them, not make them too long and at the same time still enjoy the process myself (ie not toooooo much editing). I'm starting to find a happy medium now I think. Are there certain facebook groups you would recommend?
Thanks Rich - I'm really pleased that you're getting something out of them and appreciate your feedback!

This is amazing Kelly! I really like the limberness of your fingers. That is kind of what I was trying to do in my Redemption Song video, but it was not nearly as good as your style here. I am still working on the strumming style you showed in your strumming pattern video. I will keep this in my back pocket for when I get good! 😊

Thank you. Came via Rich Davis' recommendation. Am a beginner with some practise behind me. Would like to start chord melody. Can I ask you. Did you keep the C chord down whilst you were strumming and picking Notes? Best wishes.

Hey Lisa - welcome! Yes if you go to the part where I play Oh Susanna for example I keep my third finger down on the C chord for the entire time while fingering the other notes above it with my other fingers...then I switch to the G7 chord. SO it's a C chord held down from "Well I come from"...to the word "knee" when I switch to the G7. then I go back to the C chord when I sing "I'm going to Louisiana" and I play the notes while strumming again until I switch to G7 on the word "for" (my true love FOR to see). Does that answer your question? Hope it helps.
The part where I switch to the F chord and sing Oh Susanna - I mostly just strum the top 3 out of the four strings (Closest to your face) when I sing "Oh Sue" and then I strum more on the bottom strings (to give me more emphasis on the A string) when I sing "Sanna" then all of the strings for one strum - then I go back to the C chord.
Give it a try. If you need further clarification just ask - I could always do another quick video to demonstrate further if you want. Here's another video where I teach the chord melody for Norwegian Wood. I shot this years ago and the quality isn't very good but it shows how I hold the chord throughout the song. Check it out as well. ua-cam.com/video/6GMKX0R1DQc/v-deo.html
      Hope that helps you out!

Thanks so much Kelly for your very detailed reply. You're a star. The Norwegian Wood tutorial is great too. At the moment I'm finding it very difficult but I will keep at it. I'm so blessed have found this lovely little instrument and wonderful ukulele community. Best wishes.
