Some paint has some bad chemicals. If you plan on eating the plants or fruit I would not use any cans that had paint in them. The plants can take in the chemicals into their roots and to the fruit.

You sure make planting kale complicated. Kale is one of the easiest plants to sow seeds right in the bucket and watch them grow without all these steps.
The ideas are really nice. And even though.... I can't understand why you're using so much plastic... You can see pieces of plastic laying around, probably as a result of it breaking into smaller pieces... I mean... In one hand it's nice that you can reuse it... But putting plastic in your own garden.... :-S
