  • Hello Guys,
This is an instructional video to help you new Voodoo Lab users do a quick setup of your devices and control what MIDI patches are activated.
My setup was using Loop1 to swap between a Peavey TubeFex and a Mesa Boogie Triaxis preamp.
MIDI channel 1 is the triaxis
MIDI channel 2 is the tubefex
you can set these up to be any channel 1-15 you just have to set them up the same on the devices as you choose on the ground control.
to get into the area to do this hit the left and right setup buttons on the ground control at the same time. this takes you into the setup on part 1. this is where you name and set the device channels you want each device to talk to on MIDI.
part 2 is to configure the pedal/patch to what channels for each device to switch to and which of the gcx loops to be active. so if you want to put an individual chain of pedals or an effects processor in it's own loop to use for both amps you can here. then you can have it active or inactive for each patch pedal. you can also name the patch on the lcd here.
this is the basic and quick way to set one up.
    hopefully this helps out.
I will post the wiring I did here later tonight on the actual preamp to gcx switch since that was the only thing I didn't actually talk about in the video.
The MIDI cable from the GCX goes into the MIDI Out of the floor controller. I told you guys wrong in the video so ignore that part.

Good video. I have my pedals all set up but I have a Roland GR-50 Midi guitar synth and I want to basically use it like another "loop". you know, like be able to switch channels in the gr-50, Any suggestions? the manual sucks for both devices.

Youd have to set up your patches in the roland as you want them, then connect the gcx via midi. The loop will only take it in and oit of the loop. Either way you need to use the midi out/thru

Anyone else getting popping and crackling noises using the GXC switching dirt pedals? Ive read a number of people on old voodoo labs forums having the same problem but nothing recent. I have all top quality gear and cables. Its too loud to be usable.... such a bummer!

sorry i didn't see this for like a year. my gcx changes smoothly, could be maybe you just had a lemon. my setup still swaps between a mesa boogie triaxis and a peavey tubefex on one loop. I dedicate loop 2 for the effects. i don't really use stomp boxes so really only have 2 loops of the 8 going. one loop for swapping preamps and which midi channel i want. if i was using stomp boxes then it would be very handy for using the other loops though and that's what i would do with those, since they generally cannot be controlled with midi. most people using a rack setup really are only going to use 2 loops.

Hi Buddy, I recently bought a GCX + GCP... and I am trying to configure my rig... I have POD X3 Pro + GSP1101 + TC D-Two + several pedals .. etc...... and my question is basically: DO I need link all the devices via MIDI cables and connect each ones to the gcx ??? or what should be the best option to manage the components that I have??? I really appreciate your help.!! thanks in advance...

not for the pedals. the pedals you can put in their own loops. part of the programming setup for each channel lets you determine which loop is on or off. the switch has 8 loops you can have on or off. the way i setup my peavey/triaxis combo is i run a podxt atm with all my effects. it runs in loop 2. the peavey and triaxis are on loop 1. i have all the midi cables chained together though. midi only really controls the channels. so you can chain all devices together for that part of it(midi cables only). if you are going to have a static effect on a piece of rack gear you wouldn't need midi, you just leave it on one specific channel and put it in the loop (/w 1/4" cables). hopefully that answers your question.
