How To Install PS2 Games to MicroSD for Use with MX4SIO (2022)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 чер 2024
- Today's video I go over how I install games to microSD for use with MX4SIO by using the latest version of OPL manager. It is a simple way to clean up your file names, and at the same time, get game cover art too!
Make sure DVD ISO files are in the "DVD" folder and CD bin/cue files are in the "CD" folder on the root of your usb drive. If using USB Util 2.0+ to add split ps2 games to the root of the usb drive, then OPL Manager should be able to detect that too I think...
Anyway, enjoy the video and have fun!

Are you a MX4SIO user? Let us know how you like it, and what features you wish future versions will have! Game on!
Update: To clarify (and a miss on my part), to install PS2 games to the microsd, put your DVD 4GB games into the "DVD" folder and your BIN/CUE games into the "CD" folder. Then OPL Manager (and also OPL) should see your games in the list.
Changed from freehdboot to freedvdboot actually while ago 😄
I mean i patch the games and play from dvd
I am not a MX4iso user yet. I Recently purchased a slim ps2 just to make this. Will post after. Thanks for this update.
Question, I have some bin file format games, I am guessing I'll need to change the format to .iso for any ps2 game to run ?
@@jeff15 if CD based leave them as is but if dvd then need iso
OPL supports ExFAT and ZSO now! :)
yay! cool bro, was waiting for your next video to come out :)
This has nothing to do with the video but I like how you still use the Green Day Know Your Enemy solo in your intro. Love Green Day!
Hahah! He's been using it for years..
This is the great way to keep playing PlayStation 2 in 2022 💫
Thanks for the work!
Hey bro I got to say I love your videos I hope that you can do some PS4 tutorials the PlayStation 4 jailbreaking scene is pretty cool I would love to see some great videos and content from you I'm your biggest fan LOL
I recently did 6.72 to 9.00 update and jailbreak, really simple so that was cool. Installing a ssd in 9.00 was easy too. We'll see.
@@ProjectPhoenixMedia I'm looking for that video I wanna check it out I can't it I only found the 6.72 ps4 video u made
Okay so bro i have both the freemcboot fully updated and also the MC2SIO, i ask is there a way to run codebreaker and or other game enchancer through the MICRO SD card from MC2SIO using OPL or do i still have to use the old route with USB port? thanks in advance man, love your content!
Use the old route as the MC2SIO is only for loading ps2 games and nothing else at this point in time.
@@ProjectPhoenixMedia thank you so much bro!!
So when adding a game to the opl manager I’m assuming we use the file search to find the game and upload to the device?
Hi Idol...what OPL did you use?thanks....big fan from PH...more power to your channel
This is opl 1.1.0, but if your ps2 works with 1629 that has save game support for mx4sio
@@ProjectPhoenixMedia the probelm is i can`t save the settings if i use AUTO in usb/mx4sio...MANUAL is good
hello is it possible to save vmc under mx4sio, i plan to run game on scph 9000 using funtuna using your tutorial,? I keep get unable to format memory cards warning etc.
Hi, im trying to follow the tutorial but the opl manager doesnt recognize the games on my drive. Could you please help me with this?
helo What version of beta opl are you using on ps2 slim?
Why does mine say USB instead of BDM? I'm trying to figure out what OPL version has BDM instead of USB?
Ok so large game ISOs work that I put in the DVD folder (larger than 700mb). But none of the small bin/cue games (less than 700mb) in the CD folder are working and OPL manger does not detect them..
Any advice?
I did try a different games and I'm missing something to get them to work.
Is it a proper PS2 CD based game? Maybe its a bad rip or something. Sometimes people can take a CD based game and convert it to a DVD iso image (I don't know how they did it, but marvel vs capcom 2 is a classic example).
pretty poor tutorial forgetting to mention you need to put your .iso's in the dvd folder. had to look through a lot of comments here to figure that out.
Sorry about that, some of the videos may incorrectly assume the user has some fundamental knowledge of ps2 modding already and how to install games. I'll keep this in mind when I revisit said topic
What do I do with .bin/.cue files? I put them in the CD folder but they don't show up in OPL Manager..
Спасибо.
Hey buddy, hope you can help me.
PS2 PAL 7700X (slim ofc)
FMCB 1.953
OPL 1.2.0
Oirginal PS2 8mb MC, bitfunx MX4SIO
trying to run nfsu2 & mw2 but cant get em to run properly.
nfs2 crashes right after trying to read a mc. With or without MC, same scenario.
mw2 wont even skip the first screen.
Both files (same SLES) are certified as "working" with mx4sio (same problem on my mc2sio)
Supportet settings are tried.
Since OPLM wont error with +4gb games, splitting isnt necessary anymore? Still doesnt explain the mw2 problem...
How about Defraggler? Even that didnt work for me.
Any usefull information?
Try a different build of opl beta with mx4sio support, may or may not fix said issues. Can post your question at the pst-scene.com forums for more help
Did you create all the folders on the SD independently or are they a package download? Are they necessary for OPL to work? If so, which ones are necessary and why? Thanks
this pls
Folders are created automatically when program is ran
@@thecopenhagenking1995 Figured it out. Formatted to exFAT and can now load any size game. Gtg - thanks for the reply.
I have my SD card hardwired, but every time I want to change the game, it won't recognize the SD card until I remove/re-insert. Is that the same for you?
Yes, I had some quirks like that as well.
Again will the opl v1.1 works with scph 9000 slim model ?
I use USB Utility program to convert my games. Are these iso files ur working with?
I drag and drop my iso's in the h:/DVD file. If it's too big or doesn't work, I use/try USBUtil.
All are good options, do what works for you.
I remember there was a linux version that was able to be installed to the hard drive on the ps2 phat can you do the same on the ps2 slim by using one of these mx4sio drives?
MX4SIO doesn't let you install linux on slims, so linux for phat can be done by using raw hdd copy or similar method. I never tried linux, but I've seen other videos on it.
When I add games bigger than 800 MB to my FAT32 SD card they get split up into many files and they don't show up in the games list in opl. Why? What am I doing wrong?
Put the ISO into the DVD folder assuming it is 4gb. Using opl manager will help make sure games are renamed properly
Why do you recommend formatting as FAT32, when many PS2 iso files are >4GB?
That is what the ps2 originally uses, but there are programs like usb util 2.0+ that can split the larger files to the root of the microsd or usb.
Do games load faster with MX4SIO compared to traditional USB connection on PS2. I wonder because someone is selling this adapter with 64GB SD card for 30 bucks and Im thinking about buying.
Yes but please note that game saving only works with one specific build of OPL at this time. In time, it will get better.
@@ProjectPhoenixMedia Hey man, thanks for the reply! However, I decided to go with SMB method of playing games. I watched your tutorial on how to set it up and it helped me a lot. So far everything is running very good and Im pretty pleased!
I tried this, i can get my games to boot...but i lose functionality in my slot 1 memory card. I cant get it to save my games. I heard that another OPL build is supposed to help on this 1629 one...but that one OPL build doesnt even boot up...i am on 1.1.0 , every thing is working fine except the slot 1 memory card...any solution to get the memory card to work while staying on 1.1.0.... or how to get 1629 BDM3 release to work on my PS2.... my PS2 model is 50000 series FAT.
Best to ask the psx-place mx4sio forum as they have may have more tips/tricks than I know currently.
I got one from Ali Express and I cannot get it to work at all. I've gone through yours and other tutorials and triple checking if I skipped a detail or step but just wasn't happening. I don't think it's defective because the indicator lights seem to function fine. Maybe the software on it is borked. Tried the correct OPLs, different SD cards etc. It just would not function. Also, when I put it in port 1 the controller won't work. Maybe it is defective I don't know ...
I'll stick with PS3 running PS2 for now although that can be it's own candle wax.
Only tips I have is put it in slot 2, the microsd should be formatted with 16k clusters (I forgot to mention that in the video), and opl manager should help with game names. The microsd brand is very picky, so your mileage will vary.
@@ProjectPhoenixMedia Thanks a lot! I'll try with 16k clusters and see how that works out
@@frenchpet Hey man did you end up having any luck with your card? I also bought one from Ali and I'm trying to troubleshoot it
@@THNF89 no, didn't get it working. Gave up on it since I last wrote. Good luck! Let me know if you found the solution!
can i use this just to store game saves
since fat 32 has limitation about transfer big files / roms, how can i transfer to the sd card a game like God of war 2 wich is almost 8gb big to my micro sd card?
Use a program like usb util 2.0+ (or find a dvd5 rip of the game). It will do the splitting. In the past I would also recommend a program called usb extreme but some people said their AV likes to flag it so I stopped recommending it.
I heard that the PS1 hardware has access to the memory card slot so it might be possible in the future to get MX4SIO to play PS1 games without POPs that would be so epic all PS2 games on HDD & all PS1 games on MX4SIO useing real PS1 hardware
On the ps1 you mean? Don't think it's to play PS1 games natively on the ps2 that way, or any other way.
@@IMe7x some ps2s have ps1 hardware for full backwards compatibility. Those PS2s use PS1 hardware to control the USB ports, so USB ports are unusable during PS1 mode. PS1 mode can still see the memory cards, so its TECHNICALLY possible to load backups through the memory card slot using this method, but no one's been able to do it yet
@@cameronn2572damn that is genius. Hopefully someone can make it happen
Hey man can you help me please?
I have this hd with thousands of games for many consoles (snes, ness, gba, ps1 etc)
BUT i cant save on the popstarter like wanting to play digimom world 3 i tried to save but i am realy struggling with this can you please make a video about saving? Thanks
Popstarter should auto make its own VMC file? Best to ask at psx-place.com ps2 forums and the devs can probably help
Do you have a video on how to add snes games to mx4sio
MX4SIO is only for ps2 games at this time.
Is there a way to return to games list after playing a game or do I have to restart ps2?
There is option in OPL settings to have button combo and what it should do for example exit to opl iirc
Still I can't make save work at all, some hacked OPL versio supposedly support save games but well they don't eeven start, just give me a black screen
i tried mx4sio with popstarter and my ps1 game shows up in opl list but when i try run them after debuging colors ps2 returns to browser. looks like opl cant find the popstarter.elf
Um, mx4sio doesn't work with popstarter that I know of at this time, only for hosting ps2 games
haha still going i see ... still subbed , claim your comment .. thanks bro for the laughs in the past
Good times, we should catch up some time offline

(free mc boot configuration )isn't showing in the menu . Is there a fix ?
Remove the MX4SIO and see if the ps2 can boot your fmcb from slot 1 still or not
I use MX4SIO and boot from mcfb 1.966 and 1965, but opl 1.2.0 or 1.1.0 won't detect my microsd, i've formatted it using FAT32 but still no gamelist show up. but in opl manager the game show perfectly. is there something i miss?
Is the adapter itself good? DIY or bought solution? If DIY, check the solder connections and no bridges.
Do you use Sandisk SD-card? Heard there is some problems when using them.
@@ProjectPhoenixMedia it's bought solution so I believe the adapter is in good condition, maybe my microsd won't detect because it's sandisk microsd

I have mc2sio and I haven't found a game that works without freezing after a while and I have no idea why
Check the compatibility list, maybe certain mode needs to be on or fresh format of microsd with a game may or may not fix issue.
how does MX4SIO compare to SMB with a crossover cable?
I don't know the results off hand, but I think it's comparable.
Can this all be done using a non-modded console? Meaning I just run games off the card on my non-modded ps2 slim?
No, because need a way to run homebrew program OPL and then this method. Softmodding is easy these days if compatible system. Look up freedvdboot and see if your system is compatible
You only need this MX4SIO card and a memorycard with FreeMcBoot on it. The PS2 doesn't need to be modded at all. You can get these memorycard in a package from Aliexpress real cheap.
@@ProjectPhoenixMedia tbh all PS2 Models ARE capabe of soft-mod now. Because Funtuna has been made available for PS2 Slim 9000x series for about 2-3 years now.(which is awesome!) Btw I have been doing the TP-Link SMB Share Method for a long time because it works flawlessly(Literally) I have 2 500GB USB external hardrives connected to the TP-Link travel router through a USB hub so I have it all stored in an old amazon cardboard delivery box(because of the messy cables) but that is not very practical as it requires a whole damn box to be setup alongside with the PS2. What would you say to switching from that method to this one(MX4ISO)? and what about the performance? is MX4ISO better than SMB sharing or Worse? or the performance is the same?
Bro can u please help my ps2 slim had opl 0.9.3 I want to run u launch but my lens is not working and if I run ulaunch iso with pendrive it is showing yellow screen please bro reply
Maybe it is fragmented so try to format the pen drive, add your iso and boot
@@ProjectPhoenixMedia bro can u please give link of ulaucnh iso file that will run on opl 0.9.3 , I have formated my pendrive twice🥲
Hey i have aproblem the free mcboot downloaded in my mc but it dosent appears in the dashboard why¿ it works & i play with it every day but iwanted to downlad codebreaker & elaunch app and opl is working it just games i cant go to apps
If FMCB doesn't show in dashboard, then how are you running other home-brew apps? If the ps2 can load freedvdboot, then use that as a way to reinstall fmcb.
oi.
i got an x3 clone gamepad (red and black and referred to as x3 wireless controller) the one that does not have vibrators inside (aka the shittier (chinese?) version)... i played ppsspp on my android using Bluetooth, and played Bully on pc with cable, after updating the required dll files for that game.... i wanna a video if you can find that controller and use it on both far cry 2 and 3 and show me, and others how to make that x360ce recognize my lesser gamepad.... thanks.
x360ce likely won't see it, so try xpadder or joy2key
mx4iso vs smb.. which is faster?
smb is faster
Is there an easy way to copy games larger than 4gb?
Use a program like usb util 2.0+
I still have no idea how to put games on my microSD card 😐
can you delete games and add new games through opl manager?
I don't know if it has that feature as I always add and delete through windows file explorer

That doesn't make sense, my DIY mx4sio adapter works in my 9k model. Maybe the microsd is corrupted and reinstall your games.
I picked up an mc2sio I’m having problems getting games on the sd card.
Should put the ISO file in the DVD folder or bin/cue games into the CD folder. Then see if opl sees them.
OPL is just showing me USB and nor BDM, what can I do here?
BDM is for beta version of OPL 1629 or other versions.
Can this run PS1 games?
Not at this time only ps2
@@TheOriginalVersatile Thanks for the info brother.
I really just want to get my saves off the memory cards, will this work for that?
No need for mx4sio, if your ps2 can boot into ulaunchelf using whatever softmod method, then you are good to go.
@@ProjectPhoenixMedia Do I just copy to a usb drive after that. I was under the impression the ps2 needed that mod chip to use the elf program.
If its faster than usb I am interested...
Yes that is true.
just picked up few of these week ago just now getting around to trying them out and my OPL wont detect them games have everything the same games have been re named thru the newest OPL manager ... rip easy mod
Did you use a version of opl that has mx4sio support? Also microsd card should be formatted with fat32, 16k clusters. At very minimum, see if you can get a game list to show or check your memory slot contacts to make sure enough pressure on the contacts to read the memory card.
am using a 128g micro card with adaptor , use guiformat to fat/fat32 , i see a solid green light when card is inserted and see a blue flashing light like the reading drive light
tried on a scph-75001 and my old fat ps2 with opl version 1627 / 1629 / 1940
Do we need to swap out the FMCB in slot 1 with a Sony Memory card to save the game ?
FMCB in slot 1 can save files assuming you have enough space or if you want to swap with a different memory card you can do that
@@ProjectPhoenixMedia oh cool thanks

Where can i get this one?
I make them by hand, I can put you on a waiting list or you can find it from any online seller I suppose.
Which iso format ?
The PS2 game is ISO and use opl manager to rename the game file properly for OPL use cannot hurt.
no games detected on opl help
It's not working I followed the steps and it's not showing any roms idk what I'm doing wrong
If DIY adapter, make sure all solder connections are good and no bridging. Then format the microsd as fat32, add your games, check them with opl manager just in case, and see if OPL with mx4sio supports recognizes or not
I put games on my mx4sio but the games doesn’t appear
Check the file system and no issues with the solder joints. Format card correctly fat32 and add a game. If using opl mx4sio compatible build and doesn't see, then post question at psx-scene.com forums.
