Perhaps only Derzhavina could capture the Schumannesque freshness and abandon of the first piece with such naturalness and apparently effortless artistry.
Geoffrey Tozer's performance of it is gorgeous.
my friend ADGO, everything you upload is gold. Interesting to see one of Medtner's immature works. He attempts the same complexity as he does in his later works but it comes off less refined and more like painting with broad brush strokes. I see the same thing in Rachmaninoff's early works (that Op 3 prelude especially)

+ADGO At the same time, I feel early works are the most direct. What they lack in refinement they make up for in intensity and purity of expression. I'm not a Medtnerian but this I like very much. I have her studio recording of this piece.
I'm also friends with her on Facebook and chatted a couple of times with her online. Lovely woman.
He was 18 when he composed this i think.
It' s too static because the high register accompaniment is played articulated and not fluid..
