Seeing Jean's widow, and her range of emotions throughout this whole tribute, was truly a site to behold, and still brings a tear to my eyes. He retired 12 years before I was even born, but yet I was a huge fan of his, just watching his highlight films, and old games that sometimes aired on ESPN Classics or the NHL Network. There will never be another one like him.
I was 8 and my dad brought me to the draft festivities in Quebec city. Many legends had autograph sessions and l saw Mr Beliveau. As a kid, l shouted "Salut Jean!" and he kindly replied : hey kid why don't you come over for a picture with his legendary class. My dad scolded me and said : To you, he is Mister Beliveau....don't ever forget that! This shows how impactful he was to anyone that saw him play!
The true personification of what is a sports hero, intelligent, gifted, a leader, honorable, looked like a French film star, they never made anybody better than Jean Beliveau, in any sport, all class
I may only be 24, but Mr. Beliveau is my all time favorite Canadiens player. An NHL Legend and the classiest individual the league has had. You are deeply missed.
Thanks for posting this. Jean Beliveau was my hero in youth and my all time hero in life, as so many have said both on and off the ice, during and after his playing career. In talking about him in the past weeks, I've learned how many lives he had touched. He is the "saint" of hockey and I do hope the NHL recognize this and change one of the most prestigious awards to his name. An example not just as a hockey player but an example as a human being. And his family was absolutely wonderful in their time of grief. I cannot watch this without crying. We have been blessed with his presence in our lives and let his memory guide us in how to be better people.
I love the way the Canadiens honor one of their greatest legends. RIP Jean Beliveau. It was a pleasure meeting you the second time I got to meet Maurice Richard.
to me it as always felt like Richard and Beliveau were the 2 granddads of the habs....you have on one side your granddad who is more rough and teaching you how to be a man and on the other side the always well dressed, playing with the kids, happy granddad
@@dannythomas417 What I am saying is that he was NOWHERE near as affable and approachable was Mr. Beliveau. I was in the presence and actually talked to Joe DiMaggio several times, yet I never KNEW him. I NEVER met Jean Beliveau, but I'm virtually certain I DID know him.
ive always said this : gather a bunch of quebec boys together in mtl, like 10+, and magic would happen...some average goalie would become elite, some 25 goal scorer would somehow reach 40, etc etc
if you look at the word "class" in the dictionary you will see a picture of Jean Beliveau. RIP Jean, your legacy will always be remembered

Hard to believe that this man has been gone for nearly 10 years. Hopefully one day I can be as good as a man as Mr Beliveau was.
