I did take it directly from the Child Ballads, though, and the tune was credited as an ancient Orkney tune, with most available information upholding that origin story. So I'd love if you could provide sources/citations for your comment - I'd be so interested to read them - as it's the first time I've heard that about this song! This is not the original tune. It is a pipular tune, but the song it comes from is "I Come & Stand at Every Door" about a child of Hiroshima. Archie Fisher has a far more accurate tune and words. On You Tub it is called "The Norway Maid" Check it out
