@PME she had a different BB routine in 2003 with less connection bonus. Her 2004 routine was constructed better and would have scored well if she was having an off day and decided to water down the dismount.
To be honest, I think without that dismount, it IS just an average routine!! Who saw the team competition at the 2004 olympics - her routine seemed to include very little, she had two balance checks (one quite big one!!), and landed her double arabian forward really badly, and still managed to come out with 9.612 - nearly 0.2 more than Terin Humphrey scored - and Terin did a much better job in my opinion! I know you have to take start values and skills into consideration, but I still think Terin was better, and Carly scored higher than she should have - even the American commentators agreed!!
She was always very average. Deserved the Olympic all around title but she was average. I didn’t see the fuss in some cases. Especially her cardboard floor choreography.
Sometimes you don't need to be amazing, just consistent. But I don't know if I'd call this an average routine. Not a ton of gymnasts do a standing arabian.
I think her routine is better than just 'average'
If she did a RR FF double tuck it would only start at 9.7. So without the double Arabian, it would only start at 9.7 which is just average.
@@pme8370I think it woulda bene a 9.9 without the arabian double.
I remember at the 2003 worlds she only did the double tuck dismount and her SV was 9.7 then

@@pme8370well, considering it DID have the Arabian I’d say no, it wasn’t just “average” so your point is moot.
This routine, at this meet, is what made me fall in love with gymnastics.
Beautiful. 🤩
She floats
She is my idol of my life
Big routine but 9.850 it's a joke
Don’t think this is average but ok...
She looks so stiff, amazing acrobatics though.
This is a great routine and dismount but that is the most absurd score I have ever seen even for the American Cup. 🥴

She was so basic
