Those two climbs are tough and equal to the climbs in the Tour de France!!!

Hi, Karen. Regardless of toughest or not, they were indeed some nice climbs to tackle. What a weekend :) Thanks for your time watching!!!

Great video as always! I’m tempted to make a trip out there. It’s challenging to find time with decent temperatures to ride here in Southern Nevada.

Great to hear from ya again, Terje! I have been seeing the temps out there. Just absolutely brutal... Not that last 4 years of me being there were "cool", it just seems this year is extra brutally hot... I might have left just in time dodging that blistering heatwave all summer. That said, the 2 days I spent in this episode, both days were quite warm to say the least.... No tress for any shelter at all.

Great video, love to see your climbing speed, (same as mine as a 63 year old valve replacement rider). Well done DC, keep up the great work.

Hi DC, nice video of the climbs. You took the right bike for ascending, the Aethos is sooo light. Had a question for you: have you ever had a bike fit? You can ignore this if you don’t agree but your saddle height seems a bit high as your toes point down at the bottom of the stroke and your lower leg looks pretty straight near the bottom as well. I noticed this during your slo mo portions of your video. Just my observation.

First of all, thank you for your time spent with me watching this. Hopefully you are a subscriber I see often. Excellent keen observation. As to bike fitting, I plan to put out an episode at some point. The toe down thing isn't an issue with my fitting but years and years of habit where I point down for the pull up motion. Toes are down not to reach pedals farther away from me but just a habit from decades of riding as such. I might have looked straight out of fatigue. Plenty of bend in my knees at 6 o'clock although it is true I prefer slightly less bend than the most if compared. Thanks again for your time again, Steve. Take care!

@@DiabeticCycling Hey DC, sounds like you’ve paid attention to your position well enough to know it works for you. I started riding with some new guys this year and noticed a few of them had their saddle way too high ands were “reaching” for the pedal at the bottom of the stroke. You are well aware of your position so that’s good.
I do subscribe as I like your reviews of bikes and components so I don’t have to try them all myself. I ended up with an SWORKS SL8 and a “backup” SWORKS SL7 this year (it’s a long story!). I was very interested in your review of the new Aeroad, cool looking bike and lighter than I expected.

@@steve_m.3403 Thanks for the sub Steve!!! I also ride with some guys who have their saddle set up way too high where they rock side to side visibly. I suspect some fitters my frown seeing me at times with toes down thinking I'm reaching, too. I pedal flat footed on climbs then somewhat toes down on flats and descend. It is what works for me without reaching. I can do 200 miles in a single ride and come off looking fresher than others with no pain. So while perhaps defying the conventional fitting wisdom possibly, I am not complaining. I'm more interested to here about your main squeeze being SWSL8 where your backup is SWSL7, that's some combination! As to my Aeroad, I have a ton to say already....

@@DiabeticCycling Hey DC, you asked so I'll tell you the story (forgive the lengthy reply). A few years ago I replaced my Cervelo R5 with a Caledonia-5 because the R5 used to "beat me up" on long rides. I thought at my age (65+) I was done with race geometry bikes. But last Dec, a riding buddy of mine got a Tarmac Pro and since it was in my size, I asked him if I could hop on it for a ride around the parking lot and I was amazed how comfortable it fit. So I decided to look for a Tarmac SL7 or SL8 knowing they would be hard to find in a size 52. I found a SWSL7 online on sale so I bought it thinking there won't be many of these around anymore. Before I got components to build it up though, I started having second thoughts that maybe I should have gone for an SL8 given all the rave reviews like yours and others. Then Specialized sent me an email advertising their new SW Tarmac SL8 frames in "Sky Red", a strikingly beautiful color and thought I have to get one. So I went online immediately and bought the only size 52 they had. I built it up with Dura Ace 12 sp and by some miracle got the integrated cockpit for it too. So now I'm sitting there with this SWSL7 frame wondering if I should sell it or build it up and eventually sell it. I managed to find an Ultegra 12 sp groupset for a great price at Merlin so I built the SWSL7 with Ultegra and a standard cockpit. I know, it's an "embarrassment of riches" and fortunate to have an SWSL7 as a "backup" but I just love the way they feel and handle. I've done several 70 to 100 mile rides and still feel great at the end with either bike.

@@steve_m.3403 LOVE TO HEAR IT!!! I just love all the back stories of everyone!! 52 is what I ride, too! Right about when I started this channel, I was going through a phase to ditch light bikes in favor of "comfortable" bikes because "comfort = speed". But modern bikes are just too well made, even the break neck speed aggressive geometry bikes are plenty comfortable so long as the fit is correct. I soon ditched the bikes I brought in for "comfort" although they weren't slow by any stretch. Gotta improve my legs before I start bitching about bikes LOLOLOL! I just wish I could still be riding beyond 65 myself! Love chatting with you Steve, stay in touch!
