Hardcore vocals rely on vocal fry screams, mixed with true voice. He's screaming in his head voice, and using enough pressure to create and support the sound, but not enough to blow out his voice. Vocals like this actually sit very naturally in your throat and chest once you get the hang of them

Yeah I do question the sustainability of such a vocal technique over time. It’s not natural and it may not be possible to scream like this past 30 or 40 years old. I know they’re far from that right now as they’re really young dudes.
