- Ulanzi VL49 RGB Light is a tiny light that can mount on nearly anything. It's got RGB color allowing you to dial in any color you want and as for it's white light, that'll go all the ways up to 9000K. The Ulanzi VL49 RGB light has a 2000 mha hour and charges via USB C. It's easy to use, it's plenty bright but is the Ulanzi VL 49 RGB light too good to be true or is it something you absolutely should have in your camera bag?

Another feature - if you hold the select button down you can access the presets. They include flashing RGB, flashing individual colours, cycling colours etc...

This feature was introduced 2 or 3 years ago only - earlier production VL 49 RGB had only two modes, white and RGB.

I actually really like this brand so far. I've tried a couple mounts from them too and they are solid so far.

@@soundtempleAU Yes..would love to know if the battery "shelf-life" is any good. I have had other lights similar to this and the internal battery didn't seem to hold a charge very long.
I just bought the Ulanzi flexible tripod for my smartphone and it also has the attachment for this light as well as a microphone, which is great for on the move vlogging (in a tent at night for example?) Definitely buying this light given its versatility as well as price. Thanks for the review.

@@VicBarry I will actually have like a light grey wall around 2 metres behind me with a medium sized cupboard, I want to place some decorations and plants on it plus two of these lights to put some colours on that wall while recording :)

Confirmed - bought it month ago and it's just perfect! Only one thing is missing - auto color change. But I know, I not complain, it's the cheapest light ever.
Auto colour change - you mean like a colour cycling effect? You can! If you hold down ''SELECT'' you can access various presets, including a colour cycling one!

is it me or the ulanzi led light when set to 5500k-6500k, they produce a bit red purple hues? ( i have ulanzi vl120)

I’ve just purchased one of these and have a question about charging. Is it normal to not see any activity on the rear screen when charging? When I plug mine in there is nothing to indicate it is charging.
Aliexpress says that it is magnetic. Were you able to stick it to something like a fridge or something?

Yes it can.
I bought two these on eBay a month back before I saw your video. One came without the tripod thread tapped in the bottom and the second ones rear display stopped working after a couple of uses. The light and buttons still work but you have to guess what mode and brightness you are on. I have contacted the seller to see if I can get replacements. Just a heads up check the tripod thread :)

@@martinohesse I’ve never run them out but I’ve had them in for an hour without issue.
I ordered one of this back in 2020 used it for solid 2 years before the battery exploded, not exactly explode but it did caught on fire, at that time it was mounted on top of my camera while also Bieng connected to a charger it was on at full power then suddenly it started smoking, so I rushed to unmount it from my camera and throw it outside the building I'm in that time, it smoked so much it looked like I've thrown a smoke bomb,,, right now Ive upgraded to the ulanzi VL120 and I hope it won't catch on fire this time.

Hey Amir, the photos in this are shot with the Sony ZV-1. Most of my thumbnails are shot with the Sigma and yes, I'd fix the lens distortion. Have you got the Sigma?

Hey Kev, it really doesn’t fit with what I do these days but I’ve one on preorder so never say never 👊
Honestly people should RTFM, there's speciations in there that could save you time with white balance, for instance this light is recommended to be 5750k for natural light, so yeah in camera I was using the daylight preset for wb (5200k) SURPRISE peoples skin tones was off, SO I THE MANUAL I read the recomemded spec and voila 5750K ON LIGHT AND I CAMERA... skin tones was spot on.

Lol i just be an ulanzi case for my GoPro hero 8 vic! Quite handy as well, trying to amp my action camera since no Sony zv1 for me yet!

I bought 4 of these. Want to know what charger i should use...5v1a or 5v2a ?? Someone plz inform.
Ordered one as a fill on events. Some corners are just too dark. Used to drag a YN360II with me for that. Works fine, but BIG! Very curious to see how this thingie will hold up.

I placed an order for the lens for Sony ZV1 after watching your video on the 3rd of October with DHL Express, its been nothing but plain lies from them, first, they sent a tracking number that just doesn't show anything, then they said DHL doesn't deliver from China to Dubai which is absolutely not true as I order weekly from China, then they said the courier is late, then they said customs are very strict these days (never heard customs being strict about lenses), every week they promise it will arrive within days, and so on.
They have great products but a totally shambolic service.

how is the battery life at 100% power?
Can this light be used while a USB-C power source is connected? I am would want to connect an external USB power pack for longer battery life.
Yes, it can be used during charging, I just get two of them today - works great :)
One other thing, it’s magnetic too

What’s the battery life like Vic and recharge time? Thx for the run down 👊
Hey there, haven't measured the charge time, but I've been using it all week, an hour here an hour there and it's still around 40% - Battery time will be related to the brightness levels though
The battery is only 2000mAh, which can last a while depending on your usage settings, however I've found that my Ulanzi VL49 doesn't hold it's charge if you let it sit idle. I'll charge it fully and then not use it for a week and then find out it needs to be charged up again.
Could you use this on paranormal investigations ?

Hey Adrian, not sure of constant use but I’ve rarely had to charge mine over the course of a week. Probably used 30 mins a time. Easily a few hours on and off. Plus it can be used with a battery bank

Maybe you can tell me how this thing makes white light? Mine doesn't. Where is the switch or whatever for that? All I can get are many shades of red and yellow blue and green.
Try holding the select button down until the mode changes to the mode with the white light and Kelvin temperature display. There are 3 modes: RGB colored light 0-360 degrees, white light 2500-9000 deg K, and preset effects with flashing lights. Hope yours functions properly.

One of their reps asked me if I wanted to review this, but since I’m still, a small channel, the only option for me was to order it from amazon, and then qualify for a refund. Since I live in Alaska, I can’t order anything with a battery😭😭😭 I wish they would just start sending me stuff🤣🤷🏻♂️
That sucks! They should send it to you direct to be honest. Too much messing about with refunds and all that.
@@VicBarry yea, I was super sketched out by it at first. Then I contacted Ulanzi and asked about the guy that messaged me. They confirmed that he was indeed an employee. So I tried to work something out but, it I didn’t pan out. 🤷🏻♂️ I love their hardware, it’s the only brand I’ll buy anymore, I wish I could get them to just start sending me stuff. Maybe if I can ever manage to build up more followers, in any case, I started from zero, and am working my way up😁

Totally agree! I've a GoPro 9 cage on the way, so looking forward to that. The Ulanzi Osmo Pocket stuff I bought, was built like a tank! Really good stuff!
