This video made my day. Prior to watching it, I dug out my old super xl and gave it a once over. Fuel line was dry rotted. Did a quick fix. Primed the carb. 3 pulls, fired right up. Haven't ran it for over 25 years but glad I dug it out. Gonna replace the bar and chain and put it to use. Buckin, you are an inspiration to so many. Not sure you nor the community, will ever fully know or understand the impact you have on the world. God bless you
Quit following for a bit. No reason. Just life got busy. Glad to jump back in and see you’re the same man of character and work ethic you always were. My business made more money this summer than I could have dreamt. I was sorely tempted to spend it. Buy more material things. Etc. Good to come back here and be reminded that simplicity and contentment will always win out.
Aaah, simplicity and contentment, high quality stuff. Only been here for the past several months but feel those qualities bubbling up throughout the community.
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith glad to see you using a Homelite, they were good saws back in the day. Like to see you with a 550,650, or 750, if you haven't already give one a try! Take care friend.
I recently rehandled 4 axes which were in a bad shape and wow! It's so nice to have a beautiful and comfortable handle! So, i think i've got another hobby! lol And i tried a flick technique for a first time - that was easy! Try it! It really works! Buckin'! You make it easier for people! Thank you very much!
Oh yeah brother the ole homelite is cuttin eh love the chisel file on that baby. Oh man and that Elwell is awesome. Hello everyone from the Buckin Army thank you all for all you do. Thank you Buckin. I love ya man🌲❤🌲✊
What I notice most is that you get less disturbance of the log with the axe. The maul knocks the remainder of the log over causing you to pick it back up more often.
That's no BS if I'm feeling a little weird or stressed out I go outside and do something physical. Works great. Thanks Buddy for another cool video see ya next time hope everyone is well in your world. All the best from Northern California

I grew up in Yugoslavia , in Bosnian mountains and Billy is just like one of your cousins or uncles! Old school !!! Tough but just! It brings a lot of really good memories from childhood just watching a guy chop the crap out of that wood😅😂🤣! My favourite are the old Balkan bearded axe! Hi Buckin' ,. it's Doug from Flagstaff ! Just wanted to tell you that I'm 74 years old and still cutting firewood ! I love it and it keeps me young ! Love ya, Buckin'.
I grew up chopping wood with my pops in northern California. We use to chop around 250 to 300 cords a year when the 518 was running. I always prefer a maul sense they don't get stuck. I do like swinging a sharp axe once in a while but if I'm going for production the maul all the way! Love watching the channel!
You're absolutely right about axes is all about what you will use them for, Buckin'. My wedge banger forestry (HB) axe has a shorter but very high strength handle and wide edge but not so heavy head. Edge profile is very sharp angled to cut crossways fibre and to debark. If I use it to split fresh wood I can nearly slam it in to the eye and never get it loose again. :D I'm very sad over the only HVA 200-series saw I have left is a 242XPG and not any of the bigger ones. Now at 63y it would have been fun to have some left, but when I changed them in to newer it was every year routine. ;...( But the 242 is still in my trunk everyday as the final solution! Revs insane, quick, powerful for its size and never have any problems.
I don't think that I've ever seen a man who honestly loves and enjoys a hard physical labor more than Billy here. It's a joy to watch him enjoy doing the work and seeing his face glow with satisfaction. I have to be honest with you guys, I'm not that kind of a guy.. Hell, I own a landscaping business and although I do enjoy cutting grass, when the summer heat arrives I can't wait to finish a lot and find a nearest shade. During the heat season, lets say May to September, I put in 3 hours in the morning (7-10 am), run home to hit a shower, and then put in another 2 hours in the late afternoon (6-8 pm). I'm sweating like a pig and loosing energy faster than a fake Chinese Makita battery.. Billy, you're an inspiration and my hero...
I love all of Your contacts and your videos are freaking awesome keep it up man it gets me so pumped up makes me go out and shop and back and throw word all over the place love it man

End of sunny day, cools off, things are nice dry. The best time to race the sunset and let your eyes adjust to the coming darkness. Work into the darkness is crazy, i Luv it.
Never have been able to split wood in my area with an axe and sometimes even with an 8 lb maul but it doesn't stop me from trying and its great exercise!

It seems the axe dosent send the wood flying as much as the maul leaving you less picking the block up off the ground. I like the axe better.Love the video thank you for making it for us!!
Buckin' I wanted to share a story with you. I'm 16 and live in OH and love saws and firewood. My good friend's family owns a farm where his grandparents and uncle lives. The road to get to this farm requires a jeep to get up its so bad. Unfortunately, They were taken advantage of by TWO separate logging companies because my friend's grandpa shook hands instead of signing a contract. The companies own them $40,000 and won't pay since no contract was signed. I am spending my time out there helping his grandpa heat his house by cutting and splitting all the wood by my hand for some old non running mccullochs and it hurts me to see this happen. Wish y'all the best of luck and stay safe.
Max... You are a messenger and a blessinger, sent your energy for the goodness of friends and families, keep on splitting. Hard work of a young man turns into a strong old man.
Hey Buckin you make it look so fun can’t wait to get home from work so I can get going on my wood pile and get splitting, I’m learning a lot and I’m in 50s been cutting and splitting since I’ve been just a kid , I’m taking a lot of your advice, keep up the good work
What a nice video! Art in the evening light.. Got me ready to go down the hill and get to my own splitting. With my 6 lb. Maul. I never had a 6 pound axe or I might like it better too.
Lol just got done splitting a half cord of bottom root rounds so definitely feel you. Seems just my luck to get trees that have 2-3 knots every 14 inches or just grows in some crazy directions. Either way, taken some suggestions from Billy and work around them best I can. When I do get straight grain with one or no knots though it's truly a welcomed treat.
I have a 6lb maul and it's my favourite.....but I also have 4.5lb elwell to (as you say) to save out my stamina. Maul for Beech, Oak and Ash. Axe for cottonwood, fir and pine
Love those saws and hoping that one day I’m as accurate with an axe as you are. I feel like I’m close, but don’t know that I’ll ever get there. Here’s hoping
I switched my saws to 28 inch bars after watching your videos Saves a guys back and makes the saw more versatile. Stand up and buck makes a lot of sense. If you use the tip of the bar correctly long bars work great with less kickback. Dad and I worried about the larger bars kicking back due to my size I'm 26 years old and about your sons size but it wasn't an issue in fact the smaller bars kick back more . Keep on keeping on my friends!
My mother was a force in the woodpile when she was younger. I only got a glimpse of it, one day i tried to hand her the 6 lb maul I was using. She refused, said she only used 8lb! I thought she was bluffing, but no, my father confirmed later on.
He is a helluva salesman, lol; plus he LOVES axes and wood......that is why he (BBR) is a helluva salesman!!!! Maybe he should be selling vintage chainsaws......shhhh don't say a word.

first saw i ran was a homelite and i remember thinking this plastic junk is going to be a nightmare but it ended up being great ran all day and cut well
G'day Buckin n friends, you call them mauls we call them Canadian wood splitters . If I think back I can remember seeing the first one in the late seventies, I've got one on a short stringy bark handle great for banging alloy wedges 👍🇦🇺.

Hey everyone hope y'all are doing great! Thanks for all these great videos Buckin! I split a lot of yellow locust fence post and I use steel wedges and a maul I love using them for that but a good axe is nice too as long as you don't mind what they look like steel wedges take a roll on a axe head pretty quick! Haha be kind love y'all!!
I have cut probably 100 trees and my hand is steal healing from a dummy branch cut, needed stitches but used butterfly bandages and kept getting it. I've learned alot watching BBR and he makes me laugh. So now I just subscribed. From Salisbury N.C. raised in Greensboro N.C.
Buckin, my good man, my buddy's n I would like to know if you've tried out these new fiskars splitting axes, ? And to see a comparison from them to some of yours , that'd be a cool vid , thanks for all you do bro we love ya up here in the Adirondacks
There’s a video about a Honda wood splitter that features a fiskars. His dad uses a fiskars to split halves after mauling the rounds. Billy was using some fire axes that day but obviously respects his pops.
Bucking Billy my observation is you look more comfortable with the axe because of how you use it to split and how you flip the logs into position for the next split it looks faster after the initial split .Boy can you split some wood .l used to split all my wood that way . Conserving body now bought a log splitter saves a lot of back.I am 75years old in good shape still like splitting by hand on occasion but now because l do Landscaping full time it's not practical to use up resources .You know.Love what you do and teach.Keep it upCliff
Hey Billy how about telling your old buddy lronhorse to warm up my two 660cc Farm tech saws a word from you lm sure he would fit me into his schedule.See if you can get him to send contact information.thanks Clliff

Umm Hmm Ole Saws & Axes & Mauls, B.R. Loves Them All ! Great Vid ! Happy & Safe Thanksgiving To All Hope All Have A Splendid Day ! Hugs & Prayers For Bo Bo & Family ! ATB T God Bless
Thanks 👍 t.m
Hey everyone hope y'all are doing great! Thanks for all these great videos Buckin! I split a lot of yellow locust fence post and I use steel wedges and a maul I love using them for that but a good axe is nice too as long as you don't mind what they look like steel wedges take a roll on a axe head pretty quick! Haha be kind love y'all!!
Same here. Lots of gnarly oak and hickory etc. I like using an axe but can’t always.
Those homelites from back then sound so mean, I have a blue xl I love to run once in a while for the sound
music could be a little better but I enjoy watching this crazy dude, He reminds me of me a little younger and I used to be an IRONWORKER/CERT. WELDER
Whenever I'm splitting with a maul it sorta feels like splitting wood with a splitting wedge that someone drilled a handle to lol.
That test chain with the square cut, looks like it cuts very fast..
👊😎
Some guys have all the fun...
Love ya Buckin!
Boy I wish red oak, white oak split that easy here in louisiana
Robert Dickerson ...Here in PA the red & white oak are pritty straight grained and I’ve always
...thought they’re fairly easy splitting. Might be just the difference in climate or humidity. What do y’all think about it Sir ?
Amazing video 🌲🌳🌿🌳🌲🌳
Hey buckin. I’m gonna try that square file any day now! Hehehe
Love the old homelite! Music to my ears! What size bar and chain are you running on it!??
Bucking Billy my observation is you look more comfortable with the axe because of how you use it to split and how you flip the logs into position for the next split it looks faster after the initial split .Boy can you split some wood .l used to split all my wood that way . Conserving body now bought a log splitter saves a lot of back.I am 75years old in good shape still like splitting by hand on occasion but now because l do Landscaping full time it's not practical to use up resources .You know.Love what you do and teach.Keep it upCliff
good stuff cliff
